Free Agency Open Thread (NBA and Kings!)

True, but I'm also not in love with next year's draft class. I haven't watched enough of Doncic to try and determine how he'll translate to the NBA and what I've seen of Porter and Ayton hasn't impressed. Bamba and Sexton jumped out at me (in a good way) but neither plays a position of need for the Kings.

I'm still high on Miles Bridges and that may work out well since I don't know that he'll be a top five pick next year.
I haven't seen Doncic play myself yet either, but I think there are concerns about his athleticism at the NBA level. I'd be curious to hear if anyone thinks he is better than average when it comes to his athleticism.

EDIT: Just pulled this from NBADraft.net. This obviously doesn't give you the full picture on this guy but it gives you a sense for who he is. To be honest, those numbers and scores don't scream top pick to me.

Report: Wizards looking for sign-and-trade with Bojan Bogdanovic

The Wizards are looking to do a sign-and-trade deal with restricted free agent Bojan Bogdanovic according to CSN Mid-Atlantic.

They can’t afford to keep him and some of the stuff we’ve seen out there on Bogdanovic has been absurd, starting with his own expectations for a $16 million per year contract. He hasn’t been able to step up as a consistent performer in tours with both the Wizards and the Nets, so it will be interesting to see what kind of a deal he can get.
hopefully the Kings aren't involved in these talks

The Warriors seemingly refuse to sign short guys. Even Curry (who is a generational talent) is a legit 6'3 and the only one under 6'6 who gets any real playing time. The league is all about shooting threes so a big part of stratagizing for that is defending threes.

How do you defend threes without being allowed to touch guys? with HIEGHT and mobility.

Simple concept that even the kings are finally grasping on too, its just too hard to play shorter guys (defensively) anymore(outside of generational talents), teams are more equipped to exploit it now.

Hopefully we get a that long defensive wing as our next signing!

Have to love someone giving a numerical score for "intangibles".

I think Doncic will be a good NBA player, I'm just not sure how good. But he's putting up the best stats for a player his age in ACB since Rubio. He may not be the defender Rubio is and he's a level below as a passer but he's far better as a shooter and scorer. With his size as a two guard (or possibly even lead guard) and his playmaking and shooting he's really intriguing.

Worth tanking for a chance at him? That I can't say right now.

He's a playmaking three. Great prospect, but yes, explosive athleticism is a touch below desired ability for that high of a pick. Then again, same could be said of Fultz/Ball. Also, Knox is going to shoot up the boards. This draft is top heavy at SF.

At this point, if we are not able to get a small forward through a sign and trade (i.e. Jae Crowder or DeMarree Carol) and pick up a pick in the process, I would just assume leave the roster as is and roll with what we have so far.

I think Garrett Temple, Justin Jackson and Malichi Richardson can be effective at the small forward spot for us.

And eiher add sampson as a contract or AT LEAST a 2-way contract

Sampson from our summer league team has nba experience.

I can confirm Monta Ellis has being waived. No buyout. Teams have 48 hours to claim him & the final 2 years of his deal. @Shams Charania 1st.

Monta Ellis is going thru waivers for the next 48 hours.
Should we be worried?
There was a report recently (maybe around the trade deadline?) the Kings refuted suggesting they were interested in Ellis. I am not worried about. I'd be more worried about Olynyk. The Kings seems intent on addressing every position except SF.

Translation services are not an exact science.

I thought with rumors of Indiana's sign-and-trade we could offer Kosta, but it appears they are pretty set with bigs.
3-team?

Spurs-Kosta
Indiana-D. Green?
Kings-CJ

Spurs get quality priced big and can still afford to sign simmons
Indiana gets help on the wing (espically with no Paul George and CJ)
Kings get a sf and still have money to sign Olynyk (to replace kosta)

I don't like the idea of KK and ZBo playing together.
PG: Hill, Fox, Mason III
SG: Hield, Bogs, Malachi
SF: CJ, Temple, JJ
PF: Skal, ZBo, Olynyk, Giles
C: WCS, (Olynyk), Papa

Trading Koufos makes sense because Papa G is coming on slimming down ready to ball. And Willie is a guy we are committed to as well. There's not enough minutes for three centers. And don't forget Z-Bo is more center than power forward at his age. We shouldn't be replacing Koufos with another center we should be looking to move him for CJ Miles or Crowder.

That's why I suggested a trade.
I was simply stating that "if" we are looking to trade kosta, "then" it would make sense why we are pursuing Olynyk

Over pay? I think so

Dion Waiters at 4 years, $52M leaves the Heat with $17M of cap room. Can get to $21M if McRoberts is waived/stretched.

Just when I thought we were safe with waiters being signed

I may have misunderstood you , but if you are stating that "if" we are looking to trade Koufos "then" pursuing Olynyk makes sense, that's where we disagree. I don't think we need to replace Koufos with another center, even if he is a stretch center.

There's no minutes there if we believe in WCS and Papa G and want to see them turn into players. The minutes that don't go to these two guys can go to Z-Bo. Meanwhile the SF is wide open until Malachi or teammate or trade acquisition steps up.
