Matt Smith is leaving “Doctor Who.”

The actor, who has filled the iconic Doctor role since 2010, will depart at the end of the year following the show’s 50th anniversary special in November and Christmas special in December.


On Saturday, the BBC announced the news on the series’ official blog.


Smith said, “Doctor Who has been the most brilliant experience for me as an actor and a bloke, and that largely is down to the cast, crew and fans of the show.”


“I’m incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew who work tirelessly every day, to realize all the elements of the show and deliver Doctor Who to the audience,” added the star.


He continued, “The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I’ve never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable.”


Executive producer Steven Moffat announced that a search is underway for the next Doctor.

Boy, I don't know...
Smith was nice; I appreciated his quirky way. Tennant for me was more enjoyable, but it was close. I'm not sure if the next Doctor will continue with the quirks, or if it will go in a whole different direction. I'm interested to see how John Hurt fills in.

I liked Matt Smith... kind of an angrier, more violent (sort of) Doctor than the predecessors. Also, did anyone ever see the interview with the lady who played Amy Pond on Conan? She seemed so smart and in control on the show and so dingy on Conan... one of those weird moments.

Doctor Who and the Tardis by Craig Hurle

Doctor Who Series 8 with have a uninterupted run of 12 episodes airing from the Autumn of 2014, with the Christmas Special of 2014, the Series 8 Finale according to sources. Steven Moffat will also return as Head Writer, with a new Executive Producer announced last month, and Jenna as companion. The Series begins filming in the autumn after the 2013 Christmas Special is filmed late next month/August. The 12th Doctor will be announced within the month, and to quote, the BBC has not ruled out hiring a woman to replace Matt Smith, although it is thought Ben Daniels has already been signed.

He brings up some good points. This season has seemed to muddle along without some of the incredible episodes we've come to expect. I love Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara, but I think her character's story lines are convoluted and muddy.

You have to find the double arrows ( >> ). Once you're on street view, you just need to move around a bit until they appear. Once they're there - and pointed towards the door of the TARDIS - you should be able to enter.
