PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) - A royal decree approving citizenship for actress Angelina Jolie was signed by King Norodom Sihamoni on July 31, Sok Sam Oeun, an official of the Council of Ministers, said Friday. Sok Sam Oeun said he was working through Jolie's contacts in Cambodia to notify the 30-year-old actress of her new citizenship.

Prime Minister Hun Sen offered Jolie citizenship in recognition of her generosity when she visited the country last summer.

Jolie, who adopted her son, Maddox, from Cambodia in 2002, is giving Cambodian Vision in Development, a community development group, $1.5 million for its environmental protection efforts in remote parts of the country's northwest.

"This is what we have dreamed for her for a long time," said Mounh Sarath, director of Cambodian Vision in Development. "Now it's a dream come true."

He said Jolie deserves citizenship "not because of the money she has given but her good heart and love" for the Cambodian people.

Scenes for Jolie's 2001 movie, "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider," were filmed at Cambodia's famed Angkor Wat temple. Jolie adopted her daughter, Zahara, from Ethiopia last month.

Lets be serious. Its for the money. Her good heart and love? I've got a good heart and a lot of love, but you don't see heads of countries lobbing royal degrees granting me citizenship.

But way to go AJ!

On the other hand, there are plenty of people who have $1.5 million to donate, and don't.

Boy, such a cynic.

;)

I think the combination of a good heart and a lot of love AND her generosity of spirit and ability to give large amounts of money are all being recognized and I have absolutely no problem whatsoever with it.

Congrats, Angie!

I agree with G3 - lots of people have the money. She's actually doing something beneficial with some of hers.

Miss Jolie simply exceeds the vast majority of us in these matters by so far that I always find criticism of her on these fronts ridiculous. Lot of people talk about doing this or that, about helping, she just does it. In her case the beauty is not skin deep and there is a great human spirit behind the great looks.

I didn't mean it as a totally negative thing. The money she donated is a wonderful thing and, as GGG said, there are tons of people with the money that don't donate. I just found the line in the article that says she was given citizenship because of her heart fairly humerous. My criticism was not towards her and her actions, but more towards the article.

I agree that she really has done well with her fame and fortune. There are tons of celebrities out there that seem to care very little for anyone but themselves. She clearly is not one them.

Good for her, so often people with all that money get greedier, it's nice to see her helping people in need and not just financially.
