I may be in the minority, but I hardly view Carter as some untouchable. Yes he was injured last year, but hardly lit the world on fire. I love his defensive intensity, but I'm not sold at all on his offensive game. He's also almost 24. If there is a player on the board that they love, and they can trade Carter for a pick, so be it. Carter's draft status from last year doesn't matter any more.

Certainly not untouchable, but there needs to be a plan here. Carter was someone who was always a long term play with the shoulder surgery. THIS upcoming season was when we'd get our first real look at him. We saw 300ish minute last year and some G-League time; looks as advertised on defense, but has a lot of work on offense to do. That could just have been he missed 9 months of basketball, offseason, training camp and just never caught up. Or maybe he's not "that" guy offensively.

Regardless of what we're trying to do, Carter makes more sense on our team than he does to trade him for a mid-round FRP. If we're trying to win, the guy who's been in our org for a year, under Doug for a year, is far more likely to help with winning than a rookie. And if we're rebuilding... duh, he's a young guy with upside.

Trading Carter and "replacing" him with like Dennis Schroeder and a rookie seems stupid on both accounts. Doesn't help winning and doesn't help our long-term future. But, if we traded Carter for like 2 of the BKN picks AND we continue to reset, sell guys off for future assets; fine, that's a different story. We're punting down the line 2 years.
