Firefox 3.xx Problem

Ever since I upgraded to the latest version of Firefox (it's been close to a year now), the dropdown history bar doesn't work. In previous versions, and in IE, when you click on the dropdown bar, it shows your most recently visited pages first, and goes down from there. Now, it only shows 12 websites that I visited, and some of them from like two months ago. It seems to just show what it wants to.

I've looked through the help forums and everything, and I can't figure out how to fix this. I think I'm going to start using Safari anyway, but this is bothering me. Does anyone know how to fix it?

I never really use the history menu, but I see the same thing you're seeing - on my Windows machine. On my Mac, the history functions as expected. I didn't make any changes settings to the program on either one, so I don't know if there's any way to fix it.

The 'recently closed tabs' item in the history menu at least works properly, and acts as a reasonable substitute for the actual history (if you open all your new stuff in new tabs...)

Are you talking about the location bar or the History menu? I believe version 3 has the new, fancy location bar. It bothered me at first, but then I got used to it. Instead of listing recent sites, it uses more complex algorithms to figure out what you're looking for based on what you type.

For example, if I wanted to go directly to the Dream Team draft thread, before I might start typing kingsfans and then scroll through all the urls to find the one that I wanted. Now I can type Dream and it finds the Dream Team draft url immediately.

So if that's what you're talking about, I think maybe you just have to get used to it. There might be a way to turn off the functionality and do it the old way, but I'm not sure.

Whoa. That's interesting... (referring to uolj's comment about the location bar).

Thanks! I didn't realize that was possible. I always come to the home page, then to the index, then to the forum, then to the thread... I didn't realize there was a faster way to go directly to what I wanted to see.

Just use CTRL-H and look through your history . Then CTRL-H to minimize it.

I don't want to do that.

I'm talking about the location bar. When I click the down arrow, it used to show your visited websites. This is before you even start typing anything. So it would list the urls that you've typed/visited, with the most recent going first, least recent last.

Now, when I click the down arrow, it shows 12 visited websites. They aren't the first 12 I visited; they're not the last 12 I visited. It's apparently chosen at random, and I thought at first that it was the most frequently visited sites, but there are a couple in there that I only used once or twice, and some that I use everyday that apparently aren't deemed worthy by Firefox to be listed. It's annoying, primarily because it's not the way I'm used to it being, but also because I don't know how it's determining what to put there.

I asked Mozilla, and they gave me some BS answer about the super-duper advanced algorithms that they use to determine what to show and what not to show when you're typing, and how it makes theiri browser better than IE. What makes Firefox better is that it's less cumbersome and more dependable; well it's not dependable anymore. That's not what I wanted, and that's why I'm using Safari now.

Yea I have the same problem except these are the first 12 sites I visited on the browser and now it is stuck there.

I have to use Firefox at work for certain applications, I hate it. Even though it is set as default, I always use Explorer if given the choice.

I finally got used to Mozilla, I hated that at first too. I guess I am resistant to change.

I use IE for everything because some websites I visit only work with IE (mainly work-related things) and I don't like using two of something when one works just fine.....

Why not just hit history at the top of the menubar? That shows all the most recent pages you have visited. That's wht I use.
