Fire Christie

I'm not pushing anything beyond the fact the most plausible explanation for his lack of playing time is he is not good. I also find it more plausible they are hiding his liabilities from potential trade partners when they are in showcase mode right now rather than hiding his skillset from trade demand. I do think if he is here after the deadline he might be given a chance. Believe me nobody wants him to work out more than me.

Is Clifford "good"? Per 48 Devin with lesser opportunity has been more productive across the board, in both years, not to even mention he's always seemingly on the + when on the floor. Both these guys are being squashed and Carter is being squashed out by literal pointlessness. If he's not good? They need to know that now. We know Westbrook can launch 20 times a game and lead this team to L's. Everyone knows that. If Carter shows out there's at worst another trade asset to count on potentially. A franchise in this state needs to be looking under rocks for anything they can use. This ain't it.

Not so much a "Fire Christie" comment but perhaps some insight into his challenges.

The pre- and post-Trade Deadline management of the roster is telling. After the deadline there suddenly is a dramatic increase in minutes for the youngins'. Carter comes out of the woodwork, Clifford suddenly hits for 30 points and displays some dominance. Vets sit considerably more and vet injuries materialize. (Although Christie oddly went to the vets to finish the Cavs game.)

Such a turn around appears to make it clear that he is/was a puppet whose strings were being pulled by management. Perhaps that is even why he was hired and he knew that was his role from the beginning. Now he has been released to coach more in his own vision. It is now going to be more obvious what his skills are as a coach rather a follower of orders from above. His staff will also be freed to maximize their influence with what is presented on the floor.

OTOH, he still may be the puppet. Management may have instructed his to drop the vet showcasing and play the individuals that will be part of the team's future. There may be a factor to play some so that their trade value becomes stronger (think Carter, Precious, and others).

The season, trades, and the prospect of the playoffs are now off the table. Time to develop what is available and prepare for what is to come next season.

it strikes me that most nba fans around the country who just see the scores of games (other than their "home team") probably believe that the Kings have been on a "tank mission" all season long - they probably don't know the in's and out's of Kings "politics".

either that or they think that players like DeRozen and Westbrook must be so far past their prime that they are merely shadows of theiir former athletic selves.

that should NOT translate to other front offices thinking that our oldsters are "well past done".

but, given the lack of interest at the trade deadline, maybe they made the same assumption.

these guys are older, but not washed - i could see all of them playing for other teams over the next three years.

it just didn't work with all the vets together (at least, on this team)

newsflash (edited):

i just got an e-mail headed, "Sacramento Kings tickets are still available"

Really?

And yet, to close out games, more often than not Christie will defer to a lineup that features the vets. If the lineup is proven to "not work", then why would you go to it? It's either smartly tanking or gross incompetence.
I'd like to give him credit there because it's not like the vets are just failing occasionally. They are failing every. single. night.

Somebody has convinced either Doug, Scott or Vivek that ISO Demar is the closer exclusively. And he just isn’t.

Doug Christie gets no pass. He’s been trying to win games all year. He’s still trying to win games. We could do much better.

If they were hiding him they would not having playing multiple minutes in the G-League. NBA teams are well aware what happens there.

Carter needed to learn to play point. He seemed to show he made some progress against the Clippers with 4 assists and 1 turnover

If you were in favor of the pick at the time, then how do you blame McNair for taking who he and apparently you....and many others thought was the best player available? This is hindsight

He was never projected to be a point guard. Monk was never going to work as pg, along side Zach Lavine. With Keon he looked solid
Not sure after watching Davion fail to blossom before him anyone could think Carter would be able to blossom with Fox still here. And of course trading a small guard for front court help is never going to happen.

The amazing thing is Monte made the same mistake twice!

Some are firm believers in taking who they think is the best player available and won't deviate, unless they're a championship contender with a chance to take a player who fills a need right away

Granted that Doug Christie tries to win every game. However, he must play the hand he is dealt and the parameters he is allowed in order to do so.

If he's on board with finishing out this tank, he will be here next season. Its the only way he would go along with the losing (if he indeed is, thats a question)

I mean, I'm as tanky as the next man, but you gotta worry about what he's actually teaching the kiddos with how rough these losses are.

I suppose the best option would be to drop some $$$ on top flight assistants, as I'm as tired of the carousel as anyone, but knowing Vivek his idea of top flight assistants will just be more golden era retreads.

Yes, losing is fine but how you play is more important. The undisciplined "stop-and-start" style of pickup basketball that the team plays will instill bad habits in the young players. How you can be a pro team when players don't know what their spots are on the floor? Spending on good assistants is the most "bang for buck" force multiplier out there. For example, Noah LaRoche, who revamped the Grizzlies offense was let go but he was quickly snapped up as a consultant by the Heat, who had an offensive revival this season.

What can we expect from an incompetent coaching staff hired (via nepotism) by an incompetent GM hired (via nepotism) by an incompetent owner? Turning a 40-win team into a 20-win team clearly demonstrates the lack of vision, direction, strategy, and talent through the ranks. We're in need of an exhaustive overhaul and there's no magical rookie that will fix things overnight.

Assistant coaches are indeed a key to a successful on-floor product. After a losing streak of the current magnitude, one wonders what all of these "helpers" are telling Coach Christie. Is Christie ignoring their sage advice and plowing forward with his own vision? If so, (short of firing Christie) the front office should consider replacing them all with people that Christie would listen to. If not, then the front office should consider replacing them all with competent assistants. In either circumstance, the remedy is the same.

Why would assistant coaches accept the status quo that results in continual losses? For that matter, why would a "win at all costs" coach seem willing to continue down the established path that does not produce the desired results? Perplexing.

A stubborn, refusal to change and adapt was a partial cause for Mike Brown's departure. Now, Christie is showing some of those traits as well, assuming he is making all game decisions. There were slight changes to playing times after the trade deadline but the bottom line is that the offensive and defensive systems are flawed. There must be assistant coaches that have enlightened suggestions. Will such suggestions be accepted, tolerated, and implemented by the Kings's organization is the apparent challenge?

Didn’t everyone here already know that Christie wasn’t the best coach available? He’s nothing but the placeholder. There would be no point in firing him this season. He might even be here through next season because next season will probably be a rerun of this season. Get through next season and then fire Christie.
