Fat Lever

I know I have personally mentioned Fat a couple of times but I'd like to get some outside opinions.. Now Fat played for Portland, Denver and Dallas in his career and didn't have much of a broadcasting background before coming here. In other words, where did he come from? The Maloofs, with the hiring of Walton and Jim Gray are otherwide known to care about having employees of a large reputational stature.. Do you guys approve of Fat's work so far?

Fat was I think originally hired into the front office, where there seemed to already be some Denver connection -- Wayne Cooper was the assistant GM for a spell (old Denver center). It hink Fat's appearance on broadcasts is a bit liek Jerry Reynold's where the front office plants its personnel in dual roles that probably is handy for keeping the announcing/commentary along lines with which they're comfortable, and let's them disseminate information.

Yep, there it is, checked Kings.com:

Director, Player Development

Lafayette "Fat" Lever

He's low level front office moonlighting as color for the radio show right?

He was also involved in the last year of "House Party Live," along with Kayte C. and Jim, which might have led to him becoming Gary G's sidekick.

Because he's a smart and thoughtful and classy guy, he's perfect in his role as the player development / mentor / babysitter.

Hes ok as an announcer, but the fault lies with the teams budget. At some point the decided that they needed a second guy for the games Gary is away racing and it wouldn't hurt for the other 72-75 games. Instead of looking for somebody like Pollard, they just double dipped with Fat.

I've never really been a fan of ex players who come in and think they can step right in as broadcasters when they don't even have command of the English language and other communications skills. Fat has gotten better. Turner is absolutely unbearable to listen to. In addition to his problem speaking correctly, I feel like he rarely adds anything interesting to the discussion.
