. . .That would leave Detroit without a coach, and Dumars would probably hire either Flip Saunders or Maurice Cheeks. . .

Mo Cheeks is the new coach for the Sixers. ;)

I cannot understand how some people can condemn Darko at this point. I have to agree with those who think he needs to get a decent shot before he's called the biggest bust in history...

I began this message with a long explanation of all the European players I do like, but screw that. I DO hate Peja's game, and I think that Darko is a bust, which is compounded by the fact that 3 All-Stars were drafted immediately after him, all of whom have contributed extensively to their team from Day 1, and Wade has orchestrated to great playoff runs already. I also think that a lot of poster's basketball knowledge is limited to Serbian players, and that hurts the conversation. They take great offense to any remark against a Serbian player, and it is unfortunate that we cannot have a civilized discourse on the game.

Dumars is the best GM in the game. He knows he got suckered in to the Chad Ford hype, and he probably will move Darko this summer, as he should. Dumars, unlike Petrie, has won championships as both a player and a GM. His legacy is set. It does not in anyway ride on Darko's future. It is his one aberration as a GM. All his other moves have been fantastic. Bringing in Rip, Rasheed, and Chauncey were master strokes. The late first draft of Prince was a steal. And the addition this year of McDyess has been fantastic.

If the server hadn't crashed you would know I was jocking Wade from the beginning, by the way. Wade had stud written all over him, mostly because he played hellacious defense at the collegiate level.

Simply because someone says it appears as though you hate all Euros is no reason to make derogatory comments about members who may not have as much basketball knowledge in your mind as you think they should. We welcome fans from all over, and if their knowledge is limited, they'll learn. None of us was born knowing everything there is to know about basketball...

Let's keep nationalities out of it, okay?

Thank you.

You just hate European players, period...don't you ?

It is quite possible that Darko is , or will become a bust...but I love the fact that you've already come to that conclusion when the kid doesn't even average 5 minutes a game.

Well, you probably hate all American players, right?

How did you get that impression? You talk about other people's basketball knowledge when you seriously seem to be lacking yourself and that is just funny to me.

Let's get some facts straight:

1) Before he even drafted Darko, Dumars stated on several occassions that Darko will be a PROJECT and not someone who will step in and make immediate impact.

2) Darko was unfortunate enough to be drafted so high by a defending champion who by the way have a VERY DEEP front court.

3) Larry Brown. Enough said. He benched Melo and Lebron.

4) Calling someone a bust based on a minute or two of playing time Darko gets when the game is pretty much over clearly demonstrates your basketball knowledge.

Not that I'm in the pro-Darko camp, but the way I see it, it probably wouldn't have made a huge difference if they'd drafted anyone else.

Dwayne Wade would certainly have played. He'd no doubt have displaced Lindsey Hunter and been an incredible sixth man off the bench. His game would also have been tightly reined in by Larry Brown. He is notoriously tough on his guards.

On the other hand, I doubt that Bosh or Carmelo would be playing much at all for these Pistons. Brown coached Anthony in the Olympics with a roster that he was given by Team USA and he didn't play Melo. I can't believe that he'd play him on his own team, over one of HIS guys in Prince. Anthony's attitude, shot selection and lack of defense (individual or team) would not fly with LB.

And Bosh would run into the same problem Darko has. The Raptors can live with his mistakes and let the skinny kid develop on the court. The Pistons can't. I can't imagine him getting any minutes from Sheed, Ben or McDyess. He'd be glued to the bench too.

I can fault Dumars for not taking Wade. But until I see Darko play real minutes I'm not going to call him a bust. He's a 20 year old kid who hasn't gotten his chance.

He needs to prove to me that he's a bust, and right now I'm not convinced.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you are Serbian. I have never seen you defend an American player in this way, so I think that you do not like American players.
