I don't know what the plan was when it came to Adventist Health Arena specifically, or what the seating configuration(s) are for multiple events, but I can tell you that T-Mobile Arena out here in Vegas does have a higher capacity (500 seats) for basketball than they do for NHL. So, I assume those 500 seats are added down closer to the court (i.e. courtside seats).Arenas built for hockey can hold basketball games (again, Stockton), but the seating is set far back from the court and it is not keeping with modern arena seating locations / spacing. For instance, in this photo, look at the large empty areas behind the baskets and also the exta-wide areas along the sidelines. The seating spacing is all wrong. It "works", but does not meet NBA standards by any means.

My guess is that those smaller arenas, such as Adventist Health, don't take compatibility for multiple events into consideration when designing as seriously as larger arenas such as Golden 1 Center and T-Mobile.
