Euro League basketball thread

Hey,i am from israel.
in the israeli basketball league there are a lot of fans that bring to the game drums, pyro.
why in the nba you cant bring drums, pyro?

See This Video Of maccabi fans:

why the fans level in the nba is so poor?
NBA fans aren't allowed to throw anything or bring anything that could hurt another fan or player in any way. Nobody wants to get sued, and things are much more tightly controlled.

American sports fans in general don't have anything close to the passion that European fans do. However, we're mostly complimentary of the other teams and polite when it comes to competition; European fans can be predatory when it comes to opposing teams, but we're pretty gracious when it comes to defeat. :)

Who needs pyrotechnics when you get to burn your city down if you win a major championship. ;)

Maccabi Tel aviv got the best fans in the basketball world for one Reason,
THERES NO SUCH A TEAM which brang 8k+ fans to every final 4 we were practisipating, in Madrid (before 2 years) in Prag (before 4 years) In Moscow (before 5 years) In Tel Aviv Brigned 11K fans (before 6 years)

i dont see any team in the world who can bring so many fans for the away games which are like alteast 6 houers flight to every other country,
thats y maccabi is in the top of the euroleague basketball, just because of the fans. Real Madrid + barca + pana + olympiacos got like 2-3 times more budget then maccabi tel aviv, but what? were still the best of the bests and get almost every year to the final4 finals. ;)

heres a video from palaci in madrid - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2j6jomZr2w the FINAL FOUR 2008

I really understand what you're saying. In some matches you feel like the 6th man. Making the arena a boiling pressure cooker is very awesome.

Well, Real Madrid and Barcelona basketball supporters are a joke. They support the basketball section of a soccer team, they usually go to basket because is more cheaper than soccer, but they don't love the game.

Best fans sections here in spain are from Estudiantes (wich is the best with difference, just see the vids), TAU Vitoria and DKV. True basketball teams, not the basketball section of a soccer team.

And there's a lot of good feelings between basketball supporters, we usually go drink beer after the match with the other supporters wich travel to see his team, and they do the same when we travel outside. Even we make a lot of noise and we might be seen as too wild, is has nothing to see with soccer.

in here as said some threads before the fans rival is more politics than regulary just like barca - real, but it doesnt matter.

btw last year maccabi won barca 2 times while the euroleague quater finals and won real 2 times while the top 16 group stage, but in this year we got kinda realy bad year.

anywayz check what we have done to the barcelona players who just got out from the planes before the 3rd game on the quater finals, if u speak espanol as expected you will understand what we told them :p

Yep, in my experience going to basketball games in Spain is a thrilling experinence. Whether, food and natural beauty is why all Europeans want to retire/live in Spain, but basketball is in the mix with other attractions for me. I wouldn't be harsh on Real and Barca fans though. I went to couple of Barca games and fans struck me as knowledgable and fun to be around as much as any other team in EL or NBA.

Well that's true, Barca supporters are much better than Real's, and they're more polite and more friendly. But Real Madrid supporters are truly a joke. I remember one playoff about 4 or 5 years ago in wich we moved into RM's arena and it was like we were playing home. The people who were seated didn't care at all about the match, and the 7 or 8 soccer hooligans who came to see the match could hardly make a louder noisethan us, even they had some drums. Now they're less pathetic cause his arena is very noisy and bigger, but years ago when they played at Raimundo Saporta they where really, really ridiculous.

Anyway, the point is true basketball fans usually don't support Real Madrid or Barcelona. They support Estudiantes/DKV, wich are the clubs from the respective cities that really cares about basketball. They have good basketball schools and young categories (ie: Sergio Rodriguez came from Estudiantes' school and Ricky Rubio from DKV's). People who support RM usually don't care at all about basketball until there's a PO or Euroleague finals, which are often, but because Real Madrid have insane amounts of money to buy stars.

hey, what happened? I missed a couple of posts and you're not talking about the NBA any longer? If this is going to turn into a discussion of Euro basketball - which is perfectly okay - I'll change the name and move it to the General forum.

:)

respect for red star (btw we won them by like 35 points before some years)
Ouch, somehow, I don't remember that game against Maccabi. I remember playing agaist you in Adriatic league few years ago - you won here in Belgrade and we won over there by scoring 3 pointer from the half of the court in last minute. After that, I am pretty sure we didn't play. Maybe you played against Partizan in Euroleague?

haha the adriatic league is such an old thing :p
maccabi played there in 2003
and one year after it we won the euroleague 2 years in stright.

maccabi in 2003-2005 was the biggest and strongest team in europe ever ever.

oh and we won partizan by 35 points not red belgrade.. my bad :}

btw euroleague first stage was rendomised -

I see that CSKA and Maccabi are playing in the same group this year. It is gonna be hot. However, both teams lost their special status IMO. I heard that CSKA lost its main sponsor (co-owner Mikhail Prokhorov) and therefore, lost some key players and Ettore. Really sad because it was a pure joy watching Maccabi-CSKA games.

This year I am supporting BC Khimki and Olimpija :)

Maccabi si going to be a realy good team this year, we bought Chuck Eidson the MVP of the EuroCup, he had stats of 30 ppg! andro visneivsky is the guard from st petesbourg.. great player. Lazema, Anderson and Lampe gonna bring fight to the game of maccabi.
and of course the best coach in Europe - Pini Gershon who brought Maccabi 3 Euroleague titles...
o and the coach of Cska moscow, Messina left them and ppl are saying they gonna fail big time without him.

btw, maccabi got games against NBA teams in this October, one against the Knicks and one against the Clippers :) gonna be intresting too.

I am supporting Olimpija because:

1. No decent German teams; no team in Hamburg (my hometown)
2. I like that a small team from a small country competes every year

I am supporting BC Khimki because:

1. Newcomers
2. The best team name in basketball :) I assume their real name is Химки in Russian letters if my spelling is correct.

Olimpija gonna be one of the teams we HAVE to win twice in the first stage :)
hhahaha Beno played in Olimpija and than came to maccabi in 2003 and you know where he is right now :)

btw columbia you are fan of the poland national team ?:) you from there right?

#24
Olimpija plays every year because they have some contract signed with Euroleague. In other small countries, only champion can play in that competition. But they are interesting, that's true:)

@FromIsrael

Andrew Wiszniewski played in Red Star for one year and he was pretty good! Can't say that he is terrific player but decent. He was actually on the Kings roster in summer league few years ago.
Lazme also played in Serbia this season and he is tough and good rebounder but not such a good scorer. He is undersized center. He often gets into foul trouble pretty fast.

No, I am not Polish :) I was born in Warsaw, Poland but never actually lived there. My Dad did engineering consulting there for his company in that country. I am actually German. So, honestly, I do not care about their national team ))))
I think I should remove that Warsaw thing because people always mistaken me for being Polish ))) We, German people, do not wanna be Polish )))

Olimpija is a weak team. Obviously, they are not gonna win anything but I like that they stay competitive every year even with a very small budget.

I think it is gonna be a good year in Europe. Finally, all three best European team (history- and success-wise) - Real Madrid, CSKA Moscow and Maccabi TA - are capable of winning the crown.

I am worried about CSKA though. Are they gonna keep their best players? Yesterday I read somewhere that they lost only Zisis and Morris. So, I guess only Ettore was a serious loss.

What happened to Crvena Zvezda? Is it like Partizan the main force in Serbia now?

Is there any talks to unite Serbian and Croatian leagues?

the best player Maccabi brought is Chuck Eidson.. is a SUPER STAR and they brought him in only 700k! cause he wanted to play in Maccabi so much.
his gonna bring us the euroleague title again :)
btw, every year maccabi gets to the final four, our fans allways got 80% of the capticity so its like an home ground game :)

Crvena Zvezda(Red Star), lost to Partizan in this years playoff by 3-2, unfortunately... We're going to play in Euro cup. Last year actually, we played in Germany and won agaist Bamberg. We won in Belgrade, too.

As for the united league... There is Adriatic league with Serbian, Croatian, Slovenian, Bosnian and Montenegrian teams. Partizan won that league too and Zvezda lost to them in semi-finals. Olimpija didn't quallify for the final 4, I think they were 6th or something like that.

So, which German team you follow over there? There's Alba, Bamberg,...

I used to follow Alba from Berlin because they were the only competitive German team in European competitions. Now, not so much. Actually, I do not watch local German basketball at all. They have a bunch of mediocre German players and uninterested American ones who cannot find teams in big leagues.

Basketball is not that big in Germany. You might get a nice crowd but you have to bring a really good team. Germany is more about football and hockey. Football is like a religion in Germany and no sport can compete with it.
And the only German super player now (Dirk) - has a Russian or Polish last name :D How pathetic is that for this proud nation :D?!?!?!?!?!?
