The Kings need players better than Omri Casspi. Nothing against him personally we need much better talent on the roster - not more basically mediocre types. Next we'll hear that Cisco Garcia wants to come back to Kings - not!
If we trade a lot of our junk away for a Josh Smith (I know, probably not happening) or Larry Sanders we're going to need back up players. Obviously there's no need for him with the roster we have assembled but if we move 5 guys out to bring in one talented player on a bad contract, that's where an Omri comes in handy. He's supposedly going to be released very soon. We do need a backup SF for a couple min a night.
How about no contract, but a camp invite for Omri?
So does his lack of improvement. Still a terrible ball-handler, still a funky release on his shot(either hot or cold), still not a good passer and still not a plus on the defensive end.omri casspi is another classic example; he could function as a serviceable utility forward on just about any nba team, but his attitude keeps him from sticking anywhere. it'll be five teams in five years once he signs somewhere, unless he returns to the kings, in which case it's four teams in five years and a second chance on one of them. that said, he'd need to come [back] to sacramento considerably more humble than he left it, otherwise, i'd pass...
I don't understand the hate for Casspi here. He only spoke out in public what a lot were feeling privately. The team and coaching was a mess and everyone (including hm) was misused and given mixed messages. I think he would fit well into Malone's system. The only issue is cap and roster space.
has nothing to do with anything he ever said. I hated watching him play here and always wanted him gone. Much like Garcia
Casspi, Salmons, Jimmer, Garcia. That's my All Sacramento "Happy when they left" teamWhoah, whoah, whoah.
How about we just don't give him anything.![]()

Woah. Did anyone actually see Omri play last year? Doesn't seem like it. Was very solid in a back-up role for Houston. Rebounded well, spaced the floor decently, and even created a little bit. I'd much rather have him over D-will at this point, especially at minimum contract value.
Most people seem hung up on Omri when he was here and "discontent". Wouldn't mind this signing at all.
Omri Casspi has already publicly expressed interest in returning to Kings and word is Sacramento is planning to put in a waiver claim on him

Well, if Marc Stein reported it, it's probably not happening.
NBA Reporters who break Kings news accuracy ranking:
1. Woj (arena news excluded)
2. Marc Spears
3. Jason Jones (But only because, by the time he reports it, the news is old hat)
...
...
10. Ailene Voison (occasionally good for news but sometimes prone to giving in to her crushes on players and their rippling biceps)
11. Marc Stein
...
...
181. Chad Ford
...
203. A cucumber.
204. Sam Amico
I wouldn't mind the signing per se but at a certain point don't we have to clear out some of the roster?
I mean honestly, right now the Kings have two starting caliber players on a good team in Gay and Cousins. We have two decent to good backup level PGs in MacCallum and Collison, an athletically limited rookie and a BBIQ limited second year man at SG, and a collection of bench PFs in Thompson, Landry and Evans. And then there's Derrick Williams, Jason Terry and Travis Outlaw.
Could Casspi back up Gay? Sure. He could even play SF when the Kings move Gay to PF in a small ball lineup to space the floor for Cuz. I have no issue with that. Where I have the issue is potentially not picking up Acy's option or not signing Moreland to bring Casspi aboard.
Trade one of Landry or Thompson (preferably Landry though PDA feels the opposite I'm afraid) and make a trade with any or all of the expiring contracts of Williams, Outlaw, Evans and Terry to clear some roster space, get back some talent (from a team looking to dump salary) and balance the team.
For me this isn't about Casspi per se. It's about collecting mediocre and repetitive talent that doesn't address any real team needs.
If we do claim him off waivers, I won't have a problem with it. I have no doubts PDA is getting ready to do some more roster garage sales.
This is where there's often a huge discontent with fans. It's simply not that easy to make a trade, especially with guys who's value going into the year are so low. We very likely will need to hang on to Landry this season and hope he is his GSW self. 2 years of GSW Landry is much easier for teams to swallow than 3 years of coming off an injury Landry.
And Casspi isn't repetitive at all. If anything, Acy is the repetitive talent when Reggie Evans does Quincy Acy a lot better than Quincy Acy does. And the fact we just seemingly found the perfect 5th big in Moreland to spend a year developing only puts a clock on Acy.
Casspi is a much better fit around Gay and Cousins. He's comfortable spot-up shooting, he's a better defender than D-Will and Outlaw and most importantly, he's a guy who can contribute on the floor when he's not getting shots. Our floor spacing is going to be very key to our success this season.
