Er...Giants fans?

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
That was not a good 9th inning of pitching. 7 runs, 1-out when you're one inning from winning the division and clinching a playoff berth? Ugh.

What a horrible weekend for Norcal baseball fans.

What in the world happened to Oakland's pitching? The Giants still have a very slim chance, and if does happen it'll be the same story that it has been all season. How in the world are they doing it with that staff?

Thank goodness for basketball.

Horrible, but it wasn't to clinch the West or a playoff berth, even if we had won, we would have needed to win two more games against the Dodgers to win the division.

i was at friday nights game. i felt so bad for a friend of mine who went to saturday's game. what torture that had to be.

cody ransom needs to be thrown in the bay. i HATE that guy.

and bleep the stupid rockies. they play us like it's the 7th game of the world series, and just bow down and DIE when we need them to win.

GGRGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

go red sox!!!!!

Its funny how you think Cody Ransom is the reason we arent in the playoffs. Thats pretty stupid considering the reason we arent in the playoffs is because the Giants owners are cheap. Plain and simple. They have the money but dont want to spend it to win a championship. They could pull a NY championship run but they dont want to pay. Thats the reason we have a bad bullpen and not the best starting pitching.... THe more money they spend, the better players we have which gives us a better chance to win games....

The Giants should never have let it come down to Cody, a rookie to make a play.

Its the Giants Organization and it has been like this for years.

Well it's not his fault entirely, but he made a big error when we needed a play and he was a defensive substitution, so he gets some blame. The SF owners are anything but cheap. You can't blame them, they built one of the best parks with their own money. And I don't know where you get this idea that any team can spend like the Yankees, it's just not financial possible for any other team. Our payroll was over 100 million dollars last year. 8th highest in the league and higher than 3 other playoff teams. Every team has to depend on a player like Cody to make a play, this year he didn't, season over.

I didnt say every team could spend like the Yankees and I know SF cant but if they want a championship they have to dish out some more money. Barry himself says the Giants are cheap. Ive personally talked to him about it. I believe we can get by with the defense and hitters we have but our pitching just isnt the same as it was a few years ago. Kirk has lost his flame and so did Schmidt after the all star break. Jerome got hurt and we had to rely on a rookie who played extremelly well. If we can get them all healthy along with keeping Tomko on fire next year then we need to spend some serious money on our bullpen. Thats how we will win a championship and if they dont spend some more money and try, it just wont happen unless one of our guys in the bullpen gets real hot.

Barry says the Giants are cheap, and then goes and cashes his 16 million dollar paycheck. The offense scored the second most runs in the league, hard to improve there. The rotation is set, not going to add a big name starter there (if one even became available), and who will be added to the bullpen that's going to make a difference. Once Hermanson was named closer the bullpen pitched well, until Hermanson got tired from pitching half the year as a starter and then second half every day as a closer. It's a tough transistion. There isn't any "bullpen" guys out there that will be worth the money to sign. Unless you want to throw 9 million at a guy (Williamson 21 for 26 in saves last year) that could be no better than Hermanson (17 for 20).

And this is all completely ignoring that the Giants had THE BEST pitching staff (ERAwise) over the last month of the season, bullpen-included.

Maybe next year we can just get off to a faster start (16-24) than this year.

I agree but we need a better set up man to hand it over to Hermanson. Bonds is the best player to ever play the game... and still isnt getting paid enough. One of our flaws is out minor league system. Ours is one of the worst so it does make it a little harder but the Giants Fans sell out most of the home games and deserve a championship. Our bullpen was not good this year. I said our starting pitching will be fine next year and hermanson as our closer but if we need a relief pitcher to go in, in or around the 5th then thats were it gets worse for us.

I wish some rumors would come true though. First rumor was us getting RJ but we didnt want to fork over the cost to get him. Im not sure about Pedro M.'s contract but there has been talk about getting him next year. Schmidt, Pedro, Tomko, Lowry, Reuter... lights out if they have a good year and restful offseason.

Im saying we should be fine next year but im just anoyed at us loosing to the Angels. And then again last year we were the team to beat. Missed opportunities dont sit well with fans. I just want to see barry get a ring before he retires. Thats all.

Agreed, but setup men are cheap. I would like to see Sabean work his magic for some bullpen guys and then sign a mid-level guy to play RF. Like a JD Drew, Hildago or Burnitz.

one of the giants faults is that they are going cheap, yet they won't let any position players out of the minors have a shot at it. now i want ransom out of there. i don't mean him. everytime he struts out on the field like he is some hot shot, a 9th inning defensive replacement who makes an error. get rid of him. i mean someone like jason ellison, who has been hitting near .300 in the minors for the past few years, and has WHEELS in the OF, he could cover a LOT of ground. but no. they feel like they need to spend 2 mil to get some scrub like micheal tucker, taking that money away from a BP arm, or a better utility guy. it just annoys me how they have some position players in the minors who could do well, but they don't give them a chance.

that, and the fact that they OVERPAY guys like rueter, alfonzo, durham. that is why our payroll is such a mess. they want to cut the payroll, but when they overpay guys, their flexibility is reduced, and the team is weaker.

FORGET CUTTING PAYROLL NOW!!!!!!!!!! you should be spending like its going out of style to give bonds the best possible chance to win a championship!!!!!!!!!! this is BARRY BONDS!!!!!!!!! the modern day babe ruth, theses kinds of special players don't come around very often, you should be doing EVERTYHING possible to win it all NOW! i'd be more then willing to go through the rebuilding process if i knew that we gave it our all to win it all while we have the best player int he game in his prime. give him a bat behind him, and the rotation another dominating starter, and get that pen in shape and guess what, we'd probably get back to the WS, maybe even win it.

i want beltran next year in the worst way. we need an heir to bonds to keep the staduim filled up when bonds retires, we need a bet behind him, and we need defense in center field. give the man what he wants. give us fans who shell out RIDICULOUS amounts of money to fill up your ballpark some faith. beltran, and give me carl pavano to be a # 2 starter. as for closer, well since no one better is out there, i'll leave that up to giants managment.

*end rant* :D

Ok guys, for all of the Giants overall faults, they were ONE inning, three outs, from winning the division and being in the playoffs. They were 3-0. And their closer (and compatriots) then promptly allowed the Dodgers to score 7 runs while racking up exactly 1 out. It might be nice to win the division by 20 games, but given the way it played out, could you really ask for a better situation to win the division with? If I had said, you're up 3-0 in the ninth, your closer is on the mound, you win the game, you win the division, at the start of the season, wouldn't that have sounded pretty good?

Not sure there is any need to go seeking higher parties for blame in this case. Bottomline, the Giants' closer did not get it done. An absolutely perfect setup, a setup you would expect to win 95% of the time (or more with a top closer), and he choked. Perhaps you can blame the Giants for being too cheap to add a top reliever, but it seems to me that most of the blame should be falling on the head of the guy who was handed a perfect situation and still blew the save, and the season.

I think the point is, what if that pitcher gets a double play ground ball that would have ended the game and the defensive replacement boots it for an error, can you blame the pitcher?

Although I'm more the type that doesn't think the season comes down to one game (hell, we still needed to win the next 2 games against the Dodgers to win the division) but it was a costly mistake, and one people will look back to blame the results on.

They had almost the same scenario two years ago for the World Series title and blew that as well. :(

Would have liked to see us paying Vlad Guerreo 11 million instead of the 9 million that Nen got.

Hey hey ho ho Hermanson has got to go!

I agree with Evenstar on bring some more kids up. But McGowen cant spend money that he doesnt have. Hes busy paying off the yard. You want him to raise ticket prices?;)

oh gawd, lets all cry while the multi millionaires are losing a few million dollars that they will NEVER NEVER NEVER spend in their lifetime due to being so LOADED. i'll never feel sorry for these millionaire owners who claim to be losing money. it takes hundreds of millions of dollars to own a franchise, they aren't hurting for money. and even if they do lose that money, they still have millions upon millions to fall back on. if they are so darn concerned about losing money THEN SELL THE TEAM!!! take your hundreds of millions and RUN! get lost, and get someone in there who will spend what it takes to reward the fans who shell out a BOATLOAD of money just to get into the park with a commitment to winning a championship.

gee, just think of all that dough you could make back if you shell out a bit to get further in the playoffs, seat prices go up with each round, and think of
all the green you could make after you win the championship on merchandise.

yes peter penny, i appreciate that you saved the team. yes i appreciate that you built pac bell so we could get out of the hellhole known as candlestick park. now its time you appreciate the 30 bux i have to pay for an uper deck seat, the 20 bucks i have to pay to park, the 5 bux i shell out for freaking garlic fries, the freaking 8 bux that people ( not me, i'm not old enough) shell out to by a darn beer. we've done our part, you owe it to us and to barry bonds ( the mere man who gets all these people in the darn park) to give it all you have to win a championship while we have the greatest player of this generation in our uniform.

Its Boston who is winning it all.

Throwing money around has never assured teams of anything. Look at the Mets. And the Giants have had something like 4 meaningless games in the past 5 years, your 30 dollars has been well earned.
