Hey let's play a game: maybe someone can predict how the first seven picks go. I don't really care about what happens after we pick so we can just choose the first seven. The winner will get.................the satisfaction that he/she is right. :) anyone care to try?

Well, I am terrible at this, but will give it a try. No comments please. :p

I'm expecting this will change a bit. I'm worried that Zellous' stock is rising. We may end up with a short guard in Montgomery or Toliver, but I am still thinking guard for the M's.

Edit: Oh, crap!!! I just went back and read creative one's mock draft and looks like they are the same. Well, since this is what I came up with, I'm sticking with it to start.

She is described as the next Sheryl Swoopes. The most skilled player for a team that is looking for a face.

2. Washington
Marissa Coleman
Washington has a glut of centers (Langhorne, Humphrey, Melvin, Sanford) Courtney Paris would go here, but they don't need her. Coleman has emerged as the second most skilled player in the draft. Hometown product. I can't see Mystics passing on her.

3. Chicago
Dewanna Bonner
This is where things get confusing for me. This team need very little as far as front line players. I could see a trade here, but Bonner is a skilled player that can play small forward along side Dupree and Fowles.

4. Minnesota
Courtney Paris
When Paris was a freshman, I never imagined she would have fallen this far, and I still don't know why:(. Minnesota is loaded with potential. CP3 may put them over the top.

5. Phoenix
Renee Montgomery
This is where it gets tricky now, especially now that Temeka Johnson is on board. I still say you can never have enough Point Guards

6. Indiana
Kristi Tolliver
Indiana needs offensive help. Nobody can shoot it with more confidence than Tolliver.

7. Sacramento
Shavonte Zellous
Monarch fans are desperate for an offensive star. Here is hoping that Zellous fills the need.


The best part about this draft is any of these seven players can help the Monarch greatly. This is a deep top part of the draft.:eek:

I agree with the depth of the top half, a very solid player will fall to us. It just depends if that player fits the position we need.
 
I really want to put Bonner in somewhere, but haven't decided the best fit......or who I'm going to move down (and out of the top 7). :confused: Time and more tournament action will tell.
 
I don't think half of these top seven/eight players will ever be full-time starters in the WNBA, and I wouldn't be shocked to see a few of them not make it in the league. This isn't 2001 or 2008, folks. If these players were as good as they're purported to be, there would be some kind of consensus as to who's #1, #2, #3, etc.
 
1. Atlanta: Angel McCoughtry - Paris dropped the minute they decided to sign Michelle Snow. The best face for the Dream is wins.

2. Washington: Marissa Coleman - nice fit here for the reasons I stated in another thread. I 'spose they could still take Paris but that would just be stupid, and I thought they were moving away from stupidity.

3. Chicago: Courtney Paris - this is another spot where I let what I think should happen possibly cloud what will happen. This in my mind is a no brainer, she would make an interesting tandem in the paint with Fowles...given they are short quality posts there in a bad way behind Fowles.

4. Minnesota: Renee Montgomery. Another tough spot here. I might shuffle later after I look at their current roster. I have another player I could slot here but not ready to pull the trigger on it.

5. Phoenix: DeWanna Bonner. I have talked myself out of the pick I said I would make in another thread, because the more I get reminded about who the hell Meyers has traded for and hopes to get, the more of a mess that roster is and Vaughn doesn't make sense here.

6. Indiana: Kristi Toliver - Will give them somebody behind Tully instead of the revolving door of peeps they've been using. Redundant to Tan White but oh well, so would the other player they could take.

7. Sacramento: Shavonte Zellous - I think I said it before here for a while, but I dig her. I like her athleticism and her smoothness. She's a nice rotation piece who I think can bring the offense...I hope. There's an adjustment to make when you're not hoisting 20-30 shots a night, but her athleticism will allow her to get, take and make shots when she's asked to in the offense.
 
The more I see Toliver, the more it seems like she's going to be there for us to select and regret later ala Kristin Haynie. Watching her struggle defensively and with turnovers against non-athletic teams like Utah and Vanderbilt does not exactly have me sold on her as an impact WNBA player, especially since there are much taller and much more athletic players in the WNBA. I have doubts that she can fairly beat out the million undersized guards Indiana already has, which is one of the reasons why I'll be holding my breath if she and Zellous are still on the board at #6.

Right now, I'm hoping for a miracle. Will Courtney drop to #7? What about Bonner? Can she crack the rotation here in her first season?
 
By the way, in the essence of not fighting over the cyber cookies in the case of identical winning mock drafts, I think it is only fair that in the event identical draft orders occur, we should let the first person posting it be the winner. Also, on the night before the draft, each player should put a "this is my final entry" so that there would be no confusion. :)

how many drafts are possible, for, say 10 players, over 7 picks ... ???

it's 10!/(10-7)! = 604,800 ...

so good luck !!!

Verification please. The draft is this Thurs? Looks like noon our time (PDT) on ESPN2 for rounds one then it switches to ESPNU?

Yup. So deadline for final entries would be on MN of Wed. 4/8/2009 Central Time Zone. (since I live in central time zone). I will "quote" everyone's final entry in a post so that it'll all be clear. Let's Go!!!
 
Huh...that's going to require some math ;) Out West we have until 10pm (unless we're in Hawaii ;)) on Weds.

I've got my final 3 versions, I'm going to put them on my dart board and throw a dart to pick the one I go with probably around 9:50pm lol..

Are we going with the "Name the Last Invited Player to Make it To the Podium" as the tie breaker?

Technically, we don't need a tiebreaker since the first one to post the winning combination actually wins. BUT, for the heck of it, lets add the last one to the podium for a consolation prize. any prize suggestions?
