Why for Sac:
You get younger, you get another pick. Smith is a FA after this next season, so if he decides to walk you have that salary coming off. It has been said in the press that he would leave Atlanta anyway.
Why for Atlanta:
You get Bibby, a veteran point guard you desperately need, for a pick you don't need and players that aren't going to be around after next season anyway. You keep the 11 and maybe get a guy like Julian Wright or Thaddeus Young or Javaris Crittenton to sell tickets.
