There might be something to be said for populating your G-League team with like 50% seasoned vets who just aren't good enough to hold down an NBA roster spot. There's less potential to develop raw talent as you're rolling the dice on fewer kids...but that's balanced by surrounding the kids you believe in more with a team that approximates and understands NBA basketball, rather than a glorified AAU squad.
Honestly, I can't complain about the development job we've done in the G-League the past few years, with undrafted players like Ellis and Isaac Jones coming out of nowhere to be NBA caliber and Mason Jones at least showing out a bit. G-League champs and maybe turning Cardwell into a defensive bench player sounds good to me!
