Doug Christie wants to play for Dallas

. ... It's not yet clear if Doug Christie will be released by the Orlando Magic via the amnesty clause or whether he'll be able to negotiate a buyout of the one year (at $8.2 million) left on his contract. What is clear, according to NBA front-office sources, is that the Christies (mandatory reference to wife Jackie) plan and hope to be in Dallas next season if Doug can extricate himself from the Magic. It remains to be seen how much Christie can still contribute after ongoing foot problems, but he's remembered in Big D for his dogged defense on Nash in more than one Sacramento-Dallas series. ...

I wonder if he changed his mind about Sacramento because of all the gaurds we have. I was hearing he wanted to come back to sac but he must of changed his mind.

Yeah imagine if we play dallas in the playoffs and he shuts down wells or bibby. we'd be kicking ourselves for not resigning him if he is released.

There was also another rumor of Steven Hunter of the Suns coming to Dallas. I don't know if I believe either story very much. It has been a really dead summer in Dallas in terms of rumors and free agent signings.

If Christie comes, can he even contribute anymore? Maybe 10-15 min. a game?

Christie would be a perfect fit for Dallas because oh how badly they need defense

Well i dont know, i heard he was very slow since his injury, i dont think he will be the old DC ...

Ryan@CU: This isn't the Mavs of previous years. The Mavs last year actually played very solid defense and that was with Avery running practices only. I fully expect the Mavericks D to be in the top 8 or 10 this year with Avery preaching his style of defense from training camp.

Never underestimate how important it is for everyone to start on the same page during TRAINING CAMP. The time to learn a coach's philosophy isn't 16 games left before the end of a regular season (like last year when Nellie resigned)

^^^Yeah, the Mavs aren't THAT desperate for defense. This is also just a rumor, and a blurb at that. Also, I assume that maybe he tried talking to the Kings but the Kings didn't want him back. Doug has said he wants to return here, but I think it's what is going on on our end that would screw this up.

He had bone spurs. Those are VERY painful. He had them removed. The cause of the pain is no longer present. I seriously doubt if he's "very slow" now.

I don't see Doug going to Dallas.

It was rumored he was talking to the Kings and the Sonics, which makes sense.

Doug can still help a team a little. 10-15min? Probably. Assuming he stays healthy. But he's a roleplayer now, and for the Mavs to get any use out of him they need to finally shorten that damn roster down to 8-9 guys with defined roles and minutes. Just doing the Cuban throw Doug on top of 18 other guys and let them all get random spot minutes thing makes his acquisition pointless.

There is also the plantar fasciitis, which if it is healed is not a problem. If not, then could be a big problem. I never heard if his actually healed or not, but I assume it has.

I assume that the Kings will lose a lot of games this year and have no real chance for an NBA championship. I say, if we are gonna lose anyway, let's pick up Funderburke, Barry, Vlade, and Doug for minimum contracts. Maybe they could win a few. I want to see some lovable guys out there.

Bonzi? I'll stop there to keep peace in the family.

I'd hate to see Doug in a Allas jersey but if there is a team willing ot over pay for him that would be the one. I seriously doubt if he will be much help on the court to what ever team he plays for. MAYBE his foot problems are behind him, in which case he is an aged defensive specialist with anice jumper and great passing skills... nice to have but not the kind of guy you start or even invest much in.

I have to agree. :(

(Maybe it's because I'm becoming more dust-like every day.)

;)

Funny I suddenly grew immune. After all my idols form youth retired (Pistol Pete, The Big O), and then the stars of my young adult hood (Bird, Magic, Jordan) the last 2 years I watched guys my own age call it quits after long careers (Stockton and Malone). Now my attitude to these kids is use, trade em and forget about them there will be a brand new crop every year. Or as the old commercial sadi, "Parts is Parts."

^^^you crazy old people.... lol....

that would suck seeing doug play for the mavs.... but so would jwill playing for the lakers... but id live either way since both of them would cost their teams a shot at a ring with their horrible 4th qtr 3 point shooting.... doug airballing them and jwill shooting them from 30ft with 18 left on the shot clock and a man in his face....

so whatever happens, happens....

if this is true VF21 we should go after him. he meant so much to this team. i know some of the old kings players are over and done, but christie is probably the only one that can give us some juice

Christie won't be like he was from 03-04 back. That's why I don't really want or see him to come back, despite his passing and leadership skills, and how classy of a guy he is. Plus I bet Rick would play him a whole lot, which I don't think would be good aside from passing, maybe d.

I feel sorry for Doug, the trade hit him harder than anyone and he's been very unhappy since he left. I'd hate to see him in Dallas but if it makes him happy then go for it. I think he'd be better off in Seattle.
