Meet Donté at the California State Fair on
Saturday, August 16 (not 15) from 2-3 p.m. in Building D, Space 596.

So you can go Meet Donte and see the Doodlebops in one car trip! Awesome! I wish there was some crossover, though, where Donte took the stage with the Doodlebops and called themselves the "Dontebops" or the Doodlebops and Donte played a little two on two hoops.

There is video on the Bee's website from the appearance and the press conference is at Kings.com.

Donte seems like a really nice and bright individual. I am so glad we got him!!! :D

I had some time to watch the video on Kings.com. Like the fact the kid is cultured...seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

He's a bit of a project, so I'm not expecting to see much of him this year.

Its hard to say how much he'll be used. It all depends on what kind of offense Reggie decides to run. If they decide to run and gun, I think he'll get a lot more time. Don't forget, he's capable of playing the 3 or the 4 position. He's more of a 3, but against certain lineups, he could play the 4.

Lets just hope that everyone remains healthy and gets a full training camp.

While I'm in favor of Thompson and Hawes seeing the court as much as possible this season, I don't mind if Greene's minutes are a bit limited. I think he's very raw and prone to bad habits, so his time may need to be parcelled out as he proves that he can play under control. Even though he might be capable of putting up quick points in chuck mode when he's running hot, I want to see him develop the right way, learning to take advantage of his length and athleticism by going to the hoop and applying himself defensively and on the boards.

I'm also captivated by Greene's physical tools/scoring medley of potential, but something tells me that, unless harnessed properly, he's solely going to go down the scoring mode. Many young players especially of Greene's age love to score and score only, and Greene showed that he was an effortless player, for better or for worse--his offensive talent/physical tool combination allowed him to get away with many things on offense and defense, but also revealed his many bad habits such as chucking and not putting maximum effort. Hopefully Theus can reach out to him as we're going out on all-young mode at the moment, and really emphasize the importance of diversifying his game, playing smart and making maximum use of his tools.

I'm gonna agree with NME and Arby's here.

The kid screams chucker...But I think there's some excitment on these boards because he has the potential to be more then just that.

But still...He attempted over 7 3pt shots a game in college and only hit them at around 34%...Maybe Martin can teach him a thing or two about efficiency? :p

Well as Ken Venturi said once, the more I practice, the luckier I get. I don't think its quite fair to put the Chucker label on him just yet. The first half of last year I thought he played pretty well. It was in the second half that he grew roots out at the 3 pt line. I think in fairness to him, there were a lot of things going on with that team. In a lot of the games I watched, it appeared that if you got the ball, and didn't shoot it, you wouldn't get the ball back. Its my opinion that there were several selfish players on that team and that Greene fell into that trap.

So as far as I'm concerned, he has a clean slate. However, I don't have a problem bringing him along slowly. I don't remember Kobe tearing up the league his first year.

Donte Greene being interviewed live on KHTK SportsLine right now - started at 5:24 pm.

Short, around 8 min talk. No big news really - more of an introduction. Said was known as a 3 pt shooter his frosh year at Syracuse and didn't get much chance to showcase some of his other skills, midrange game, slashing to the rim, posting smaller forwards, etc. At summer league felt he did get to show more of his overall talent. Likes being in Sac, on this young Kings team with Coach Theus. Enjoyed his two previous trips to Sac earlier in the summer to workout here.

I'm going off his stats...unlike you I've never seen him play any games. Soooo...I'll take your word for it and hold out that Reggie can nip his bad habits in the bud.

Interesting to get your take on it. I didnt know any of that, so I'm a bit more optimistic on Greene now. Cant wait til TDOS is over. We actually have a lot to look foward to this year.

I used to think he was just a chucker as well, but the more I see him I really think it was a product of the offense he ran in college. He was encouraged and expected to jack it up every chance he could. As long as he gets some decent coaching here I think you'll see him take better shots and shot at a much higher percentage.

Kmart is by far my favorite player, But I am a big fan of JT and Greene. I am really excited to watch the growth of Greene/JT/Hawes. also Greene is a decent shot blocker and rebounder he isnt just a chucker.

With the combo of Greene/JT/Hawes it will be weird seeing the kings rebound and block shots.

I thought I might post the bio from ESPN's top 100 highschool players prior to entering college.

Donte Green is a versatile player who can play the small and power forward positions. Green is one of the best all around basketball players in the high school class of 2007 and is an elite talent. He was the most consistent all around performer at the NIKE All American Camp and the leading scorer for the USA 18 under team in San Antonio this summer. Green is a big time athlete. He is long, lean and has all the physical characteristics of a professional small forward. He is most effective in transition where he can use his terrific athleticism and body control to finish plays above the rim. Needs to improve his strength when he gets to college. Donte is a very good offensive player. He is tough to handle in the paint where he displays good footwork, and although not that strong is able to effectively score around the basket. In addition Green has a nice shooting touch with reliable range that stretches out to 15-17. He can catch the ball off the low post or at the elbow and face up his opponent and knock down the shot. Green has the athleticism and explosiveness to take his man 1-1 to the rim where he is an excellent finisher around the rim. Green will give his college coach another ballhandler and passer because he is a big man with perimeter skills. With his athleticism and length, Green can defend both wing and inside players. Because of his length and hops Green is a superb shotblocker. In addition Green gets after it on the glass and can rebound the ball.
Notes

Since that report, he's grown at least another inch and an additional "e" at the end of his name. ;)
