Dont look now

Hey, makes sense to me to hope for the opponent you are most likely to beat in the first round (but don't "tank" games or anything to do it, obviously) so you can stay in the hunt. If we were at full health and playing poorly I might feel differently, but as long as we have guys trying to heal up and new guys trying to fit in and "find" their roles, the longer we're "alive" the better. Are we a championship team right now even with those guys healthy? No. But then again, very few gave Detroit a chance once they made it past the first round or two, either.... I always hold out hope that somehow things might start clicking for this team in the current configuration.

Looking past the first round is really hazy as upsets and injuries always happen. Just tackle them one at a time. Right now I'd want to see Seattle, I think. Everything after that will take care of itself....

Well You never know what happens

I don't want the Kings to limp into the playoffs, get incredibly lucky and get into the second round and squeak past opponents.

If and when the Kings get back to the WCF I want it to be because they're the best team around not the luckiest. There are too many GOOD teams in the West right now for me to entertain any dreams of WCF glory. And that's not being defeatist. It's simply accepting the situation for what it is. We are not at this point in time a legitimate championship contender.

I know what you are saying VF but frankly, I could care less how we get to the WCF as long as we get there. We have had our share of bad luck in the playoffs and I wouldn't mind a little good luck coming our way.

I completely agree. Winning, does require a meassure of luck, and we are more then due.

A LITTLE good luck would be one thing. People are sounding as though they think this team is going to miraculously get better than the Spurs, the Rockets, the Suns, etc. IF Miller hadn't broken his leg, maybe. But with the roster the way it is now, expecting them to take 16 games away from teams like the Spurs, the Rockets, etc. is just not realistic.

I would love to be proven wrong, homer that I am, but I'm not going to depend on it.

I agree 124%

I wouldn't mind a little good luck for once, but my concern would be that we not turn into one of those franchises that gets a little lucky, then thinks its better than it is and so sits on its hands instead of improving itself and wastes years in the process. We've done the WCF thing, and last time it was epic. I'll cheerfully take a lucky Finals appearance, but going an extra playoff round does nothing for me if we're not actually that good and have no shot at a title. And if get stupid and sit on a 6th/7th seed type team that got lucky to sneak into the WCF, then it could actually hurt us in the long run.

So sick and tired of injuries, seem like every year we get worse, I mean, we trade Webber and his injured leg only to get our best offensive Center in a legcast. Whats next? Next season someone just drops dead? BS on that luck thing, cuz we aint never getting it. Just play Lotto, you might have a better chance.

Yeah, well, you know the old saying: "Wish (or in this case, want) in one hand, **** in the other and see which fills up faster."

I, too, would like to see this team turn into a powerhouse and roll through healthy Phoenix, Seattle and SA teams (I know that couldn't happen because of seedings right now but I'm making a point) and win it all. Ain't gonna happen and we all know it - we aren't good enough.

Every year teams are eliminated (or succeed) in the PO because of matchups and the teams they did (or did not) face. Like others, if we can win a round or two because of fortunate seedings, why are you complaining about it? Haven't several successive years of fluke injuries, obvious blown calls, phantom fouls, and in-n-out last-second shots made you able to appreciate it if a little luck bounces OUR way for once?

I don't care if we go through a SA series without TD and Manu - you play with what you have (as we always do and get no leeway because of it). Haven't we suffered enough 7-game short-handed PO losses the past few years to allow you to smile should Fortune happen to smile on us for once? All this is conjecture anyways since we still have, what, 18 games left? We're all just guessing at the seedings right now considering the closeness of the W-L records of many teams.

Most of all - GO KINGS! (no matter who we are facing at the time)

well....just thought i'd throw a few cents in on this idea. we obviously will not miraculously become better than these aforementioned teams, but the playoffs are not about who is better during the regular season. the top 3 teams we all know are better than the kings right now, but that doesnt mean they will necessarily be playing better ball come playoff time. if the kings make it to the WCF this year, it would most certainly be with a bit of luck. but, as has been stated already, the kings have had their share of bad luck, and a little good luck wouldnt hurt. either way, it is damn near impossible to beat the elite of the nba on luck alone, so i think we can rule out the kings getting into the WCF w/o merit. if they do, it will be because they played more like a team than the teams we could face. however unlikely, the kings still have enough with the guys we have right now to do some damage in the playoffs. being the underdog has never hurt the kings in the past...and tho i dont think they will reach the WCF this season (for reasons you stated, the elite teams are very good), i dont think its out of the realm of realistic possibilty.....barring any more injuries, of course.

Would I smile if fortune smiled upon us for once? Well, doh. Of course I would.

THIS IS NOT A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. Sorry if that makes me sound disloyal but that's how I feel. We have two guards who don't guard, a small forward who thinks he's made of glass, no POWER power forward, and a center who is smaller than our power forward. We have a limited bench and we have a team that's still getting to know each other.

I love this team. I have loved this team for 20 years and I will love them until the day I die. But I'm not blind. We are NOT going to win the WCF and if we do, it would be a comedy of errors.

I want to see exemplary basketball, especially in the playoffs. I don't want to see a team get lucky and stumble through. I want to see well-executed plays, competition at the highest level, etc. GOOD BASKETBALL not lucky basketball.

I agree wholeheartedly with Bricklayer. If this team got lucky and made it deep into the playoffs there would be any number of fans who would want to keep things the way they are. And, quite frankly, the way they are right now is a team in flux.

That's just my three cents...

And I STILL love this team!!!

VF, all I have to say to you, besides being dead right in what you said is, get ready for a very, very looooooong summer and the myriad of trade ideas (horrible fantasy ones mostly)and FA pick ups you've likely yet to experience as a forum mod. You might want to pick up the Peja stress doll.

Is that like the NFL referee stress doll? I had one of those a few years back and would love to get another one. Its head, arms and legs were attached to the body with velcro so you could pull them off when things got tough. Unfortunately, it didn't survive a particularly nasty 49er season.

;)

Huh?? You heard people saying we'd be out in the 1st round and be lower than the 5 seed before the trade? Not sure where you have been. We were fighting for homecourt a few weeks ago, now we're just fighting not to embarass ourselves.

Exactly, many of the us were upset because we thought we had the potential to get to the 2nd round at least. It is too early to say that won't happen of course, but it doesn't look good right now. Who knows, maybe we will get hot to close out the year and make a run. I don't see it happening, but its the NBA and anything can happen.

It isn't too early to say whether that is the case. Unfortunately, with only 18 games left in the regular season, it is more than likely too late to hope for any kind of miracle. Yes, it is the NBA and ALMOST anything can happen, but it would take a miracle of the "walking on water" class to make the players we have now into a championship caliber team. They might have the talent but there simply isn't the time.

Of course, I would love to be proven wrong on this. I really, really would but as I pointed out above, I want to see top caliber, championship-level play in the WCF and I don't think that describes our Kings.

There is, however, always next year - and I think Petrie is already looking towards 2006 and even 2007.

Exactly. It was funny to me b/c people on this board were being pessimistic before the trade even happened. After that we had no hope. Look back at our record against winning teams and se how well we were doing.

I don't care what everybody is saying or what seed we land in....

The Kings are going to kick a$$ in the playoffs.

We have the talent, the veterans and we are scrappers. Don't count this team out... this is the NBA... any team can go on a tear and come time, the Kings will. Just wait n see.

Have faith people!

So do you have enough faith to go to Vegas and drop a bunch of money on the Kings?
