Don't get "Tagged" - spam spreading like wildfire

Emails from Tagged.com are circulating. I received one yesterday ... it wanted me to register at the tagged.com site so I could view pictures allegedly sent to me by a trusted friend. I clicked on the "view photos" and was taken to another screen where I was asked to create an account to be able to see the photos. I got suspicious, called the friend and found out he had not sent me any pictures. He had, however, received an email earlier that day that supposedly had pictures from his niece. He went ahead and registered to view them, and only afterward got suspicious when it recycled to a couple of more screens and didn't show anything from her.

Shortly thereafter, he started receiving emails and phone calls from people in his address book who were very confused about why he would be sending them any photos, especially since a good number of them are business acquaintances. That's when he realized his address book had been accessed and spammed.

Tagged.com is a social networking site which has been in existence since 2004. Its current registration process asks for you to supply an email address and a password to create an account so Tagged can "match you up with your friends." What it does is get into your address book and send emailed invitations to the addresses found there - invitations that are totally deceptive and are shown at the snopes link below.

Snopes says it's not technically a virus or worm but it will replicate itself through your address book.

Tagged.com's current TOS does mention they may use member's information to "initiate commercial email messages" - which translates to "spam everyone in your address book."
