[Rumor] Domas trade watch 2026

I think if he agrees to give up 5 million next year (to go where he wants now) only 5 mil would count towards next year not the full 10.

Also, it opens space for us to play nique/carter more. and development possessions where they aren't standing around while iso demar goes crazy.
They have plenty of minutes. Besides we can sit derozan. IMO we gave up a draft pick for him he needs to earn it,in this case, on the bench.

The big concern is how teams will approach the Kings this summer. The Kings ADDED to their financial woes in the short term with the Hunter trade and really didn't save much of anything long term. If I were a team remotely interested in Domas I'd just politely let the Kings know they're the ones that need the cap relief and that it will cost them value. Not sure if the Kings put themselves a great bargaining position here. Clocks ticking.

When was the last time they put themselves in a great bargaining position? Does this ever happen? 🤔

This summer we can trade him for $25 million incoming salary to a team that cuts him and only incurs $10, basically giving them an extra MLE contract. With money as tight as it is now that could be huge for a team that can do it and give us a pick.

Are we sure he won't have value over the summer?

I do agree if he'll take a buyout for the 2026-27 salary but I'd put that at 2-3 million tops given the above?

We continually believe, hope and pray that somehow value will be significantly improved at a future date. And in the case of DDR he's going to be that much older, which doesn't imply a higher value, all other things being equal. Reminds me of when I was backpacking with a friend and we were getting low on water. We came to a stream and he suggested we could keep going and water-up at the next one. "But how do you know there will be another stream?", I said. He decided to water-up there and then. Go with the known, not the unknown.

Sorta? Depends if they re-up Hunter or not.

You should be happy though, they got off the Keon decision and cleaned the last year of the Dennis contract. So all of a sudden, all we have in 27 is Keegan/Domas/Monk and the rookies on the books. WIth $85 mil in expirings after next season (LaVine/DDR $10 mil buy-out/Hunter)

What are they preserving the space for? Don't get me wrong, they should not be taking on Poetl without correct compensation, there just seems to be an intent with this future cap space...

The Hunter trade saves money long term but they will be a tax team as is next year since it added short term salary technically. No, not the best position to bargain from if dealing Domas is the goal this summer.

I mean, I have to believe the FO knows we can't be a 2nd apron team next year, as we are currently constructed. I have very little faith in them, but I think they at least have a plan to get us back under

Yes, and the words waive and buyout are coming, haha. :p

Cap confirmed that what I was thinking wasn't true. Again a chunk of the value is taking him just to cut him and save 15 million in cap next year. But it can't happen over summer. Still I am not going to buy him out without a major discount on his end.

He cost us a first. He isn’t getting cut.

We aren't going to pay the luxury tax on him either. I don't know what's going to happen but I don't think there is any chance he suits up for us next season.

And he cost a pick swap not a first.

So seems like no trades will be happening.
I'd be okay with this as long as -
Demar/Russ get bought out.
Sabonis is sat for the rest of the season.
Give me
Carter - LaVine - Hunter - Keegan - Maxime
Monk - Nique - Precious - Cardwell

LaVine can stay only because he helps the tank, and he disappears enough that we will get heavy doses of Carter, Nique, Keegan, Maxime touches.

But if we stay business as usual. And worse, sabonis/russ close games, this will be a disaster.

Perry needs to be fired if he trades Sabonis for Barrett that’s idiotic even if they add a first. I doubt Toronto would want Derozan at this point we could do monk, Carter, and McDermott then toronto would have to release two players. That would make us musket competitive for no reason and take us out the bottom five records though

If Kings get Barrett a 1st and shave some salary that is a decent haul for Domas. Kings fans severely overrate Domas and his value.

Who cares about salary he’s our best asset since we won’t trade Keegan and you’re ok trading him for Barrett and a pick in the outside the lottery smh

I'd agree with you if the lottery pick is the only thing that is coming our way, but when you begin to seek additional assets in addition to a draft pick, that pick begins to lose its value. And, in Domas's case, if we are seeking more than just a draft pick in return, you're most likely going to have to settle with a pick outside of the lottery.

Cut losses and buy him out. Get rid of Westbrook also. They can go someplace else to pursue individual records. Maybe I'm missing the capology here, but I could give a **** about saving on cap space next year. Seems irrelevant when the Kings shouldn't even want nor probably could ever get relevant FAs in their "rebuilding" and they are supposedly :rolleyes:going with a youth movement.

Cap space is one thing, paying the luxury tax is a whole nother ball of wax.

But also we're trying to lose games and those guys are losing us games.

and lastly it just makes us look like pushovers, which I guess we are but still. After Fox and Zach situation it needs to be addressed once and for all to stop being the leagues bottom feeder and being an easy payday while you wait to go to your preferred destination.

The talent difference between the two players is too too large for a mid round pick. Take your chances in the summer maybe Phoenix doesn’t want to give Williams an extension I’d take Green and Maluach over Barrett and a first any day

Well salary is a big part of the business and players values and flexibility ... it is important. Salary is a big reason why Domas doesnt have much value. He isn't a top 30 player but paid like one. I'm also ok keeping Domas. My point is nobody is giving away a lotto pick for Domas this year and I doubt it next year as well. And Barrett is a good player, I like his ability to play 3 positions. He can fit with a variety of lineups.

Washington offered an expiring contract, a crap first and another smaller contract Scott didn’t want.

Let’s just keep him, next year too, unless the offer is in our favor.

Did they actually offer a 1st? I'm not sure I saw a confirmed report of their offer.

I don't think most of us are expecting more than a mid FRP in 2026 for Domas. That's with RJ and matching salary. I think there'd be some interest in one of their young prospects as an alternative (Collin Murray-Boyles).

If Poetl is attached that's its own story.

Came across a KC clip yesterday and while I don't often agree with him, was hard to not agree here.
He was ripping into Perry about the direction. This is the same Kings BS we've dealt with for years.
Do you want to rebuild? Sell Sabonis
Do you want to try and get better? Go buy players.

But doing nothing is not a tactic. What we paid for Sabonis or Demar is a sunk cost. We all seemed to understand that when it came to selling Keon to dump Schroder. But when it comes to Demar/Sabonis we can't grasp that?

Look at the cap space teams this summer. The amount of teams are shrinking, and the want for a player like Sabonis who doesn't defend the rim and can't get his own in crunch time (making 45+ a year) is not going to change.

I appreciate Sabonis, but the time to move off him was yesterday. The time to pick a direction was 1 year ago when we moved Fox. But we all know where this is going with Hunter and refusing to sell. Pray for Peterson, cut the tank short, and back to the play-ins until Peterson leaves in 5-6 years.
