[Rumor] Domas trade watch 2026

I think if he agrees to give up 5 million next year (to go where he wants now) only 5 mil would count towards next year not the full 10.

Also, it opens space for us to play nique/carter more. and development possessions where they aren't standing around while iso demar goes crazy.
They have plenty of minutes. Besides we can sit derozan. IMO we gave up a draft pick for him he needs to earn it,in this case, on the bench.

The big concern is how teams will approach the Kings this summer. The Kings ADDED to their financial woes in the short term with the Hunter trade and really didn't save much of anything long term. If I were a team remotely interested in Domas I'd just politely let the Kings know they're the ones that need the cap relief and that it will cost them value. Not sure if the Kings put themselves a great bargaining position here. Clocks ticking.

When was the last time they put themselves in a great bargaining position? Does this ever happen? 🤔

This summer we can trade him for $25 million incoming salary to a team that cuts him and only incurs $10, basically giving them an extra MLE contract. With money as tight as it is now that could be huge for a team that can do it and give us a pick.

Are we sure he won't have value over the summer?

I do agree if he'll take a buyout for the 2026-27 salary but I'd put that at 2-3 million tops given the above?

We continually believe, hope and pray that somehow value will be significantly improved at a future date. And in the case of DDR he's going to be that much older, which doesn't imply a higher value, all other things being equal. Reminds me of when I was backpacking with a friend and we were getting low on water. We came to a stream and he suggested we could keep going and water-up at the next one. "But how do you know there will be another stream?", I said. He decided to water-up there and then. Go with the known, not the unknown.

Sorta? Depends if they re-up Hunter or not.

You should be happy though, they got off the Keon decision and cleaned the last year of the Dennis contract. So all of a sudden, all we have in 27 is Keegan/Domas/Monk and the rookies on the books. WIth $85 mil in expirings after next season (LaVine/DDR $10 mil buy-out/Hunter)

What are they preserving the space for? Don't get me wrong, they should not be taking on Poetl without correct compensation, there just seems to be an intent with this future cap space...

The Hunter trade saves money long term but they will be a tax team as is next year since it added short term salary technically. No, not the best position to bargain from if dealing Domas is the goal this summer.

I mean, I have to believe the FO knows we can't be a 2nd apron team next year, as we are currently constructed. I have very little faith in them, but I think they at least have a plan to get us back under

Cap confirmed that what I was thinking wasn't true. Again a chunk of the value is taking him just to cut him and save 15 million in cap next year. But it can't happen over summer. Still I am not going to buy him out without a major discount on his end.

He cost us a first. He isn’t getting cut.

We aren't going to pay the luxury tax on him either. I don't know what's going to happen but I don't think there is any chance he suits up for us next season.

And he cost a pick swap not a first.
