Do Kings Need Pacific Division ?

Obviously it's only 1/2 way through the season but here is a question.

Do the Kings need to win the Pacific to make it through the playoffs ?

I would argue a tentative yes.

Based on the new 3 division setup, the top 3 seeds go to the division winners, the rest based on records. This means that if the Kings lose the Pacific they are at best the #4 seed.

While it is true that this only applies in round one and that future rounds are based upon records, the #4 seed would be matched with the #1 seed, so it's unlikely they could pick up HCA for round 2.

Same would hold probably hold for WCF, although that could vary depending on what the #2 and #3 seeds records were.

However right now it would mean playing Dallas in round one, probbaly a tough 6 or 7 game series

Round 2 would be either Spurs or Suns on the road, another tough haul.

Round 3 (WCF) would be either Suns, Spurs or Sonics on the road.

I doubt they could make it through a tough round one followed by 2 tough road series. No disrespect intended for the guys, but they are only human.

I think the Kings would be better off winning the Pacic Division. We would be the 3rd seed, inlikely #1 seed, bu most likly 2nd seed. It would be very nice if they won the division.

Good question.. even better anaylisis, I think it could be just as important as you say. Lot of things can change as far as how certain teams are playing by the end of the year. They've already done it longer than that Dallas team that started out so hot a few years ago, but I gotta believe the Suns will cool off a little bit, Steve Nash or No Steve Nash.

Spurs have the best shot at finishing #1 -- be in our favor to finish #2 or #3 because if we're #4 we run into San Antonio in Rnd 2. Much rather save that matchup for the WCF, in particular since Bobby should be getting healthier round by round if all goes as scheduled.

He was shooting at the practice facility after practice not to long ago....with a cast on, but still getting to the mix! :)

Hey, we gave away the top seed and the division last year so anything's possible. I'd love to see the Kings get the Pacific and finish strong heading into the playoffs. We'll need some help from PHX, but we can only worry about winning our own games and not losing the games we should win.

C'mon, just once?

you said it right! the team that made through playoffs and eventually won the championship last year where the teams who endured injuries...Detroit won the championship with the help of some injuries with Kidd (Nets),J'ONeil (Pacers), Malone (Lakers)...they were just so physical that players of opposing teams gets banged up to endure the whole series...ofcourse i'm not taking away the fact that they played awesome team basketball and defense...i hope the Kings get to the playoffs healthy....and ofcourse endure or better not sustain any injuries...

i just want the team to go into the playoffs healthy and playing well as a cohesive unit. as long as they are all healthy and in the right frame of mind, i'll take my chances against whatever teams we meet.

I agree. I think we've proven in the past that having home court advantage doesn't help much if we can't keep our players healthy! If we can have everyone healthy and playing at the top of their game come playoffs, I'd take that over home court advantage any day. Course, I wouldn't complain if we ended up with both!:)

I think tonight supports my point. Admittedly we were shorthanded but so were the Sonics.

We've not done well with Spurs or Sonics over the last few years. We don't want to play them on the road in a playoff series.
