Obviously it's only 1/2 way through the season but here is a question.
Do the Kings need to win the Pacific to make it through the playoffs ?
I would argue a tentative yes.
Based on the new 3 division setup, the top 3 seeds go to the division winners, the rest based on records. This means that if the Kings lose the Pacific they are at best the #4 seed.
While it is true that this only applies in round one and that future rounds are based upon records, the #4 seed would be matched with the #1 seed, so it's unlikely they could pick up HCA for round 2.
Same would hold probably hold for WCF, although that could vary depending on what the #2 and #3 seeds records were.
However right now it would mean playing Dallas in round one, probbaly a tough 6 or 7 game series
Round 2 would be either Spurs or Suns on the road, another tough haul.
Round 3 (WCF) would be either Suns, Spurs or Sonics on the road.
I doubt they could make it through a tough round one followed by 2 tough road series. No disrespect intended for the guys, but they are only human.
