Did Pick swap actually help?

did the 76ers pick swap actually help? We got our target at 5 and we have less salary be of it. Maybe wishful thinking but trying to stay positive.

If it helps you sleep at night, sure. No one will change my mind that it was a bad trade. What I do believe is maybe the curse over the kings has been listed and our luck is changing though. What's in the past is in the past but things look bright after the season ended. Moved up in the draft in like a billion years, had the guy we want fall to us at #5, next maybe signing our top free agent target???

With all due respects, its the typical GM talk every year. I don't believe for a second that Kings would have drafted Fox if they had #1 pick.

Trade was bad especially with the change of direction. It was a bit of luck that minimized the blow a bit!

It certainly was a bad trade. A very bad trade. As @Čarolija pointed out, they just got very lucky in that things didn't turn out as badly as they very easily could have. Let's just hope that Vlade has learned from his previous mistakes and/or Cantanella and Perry have enough influence to keep it from happening again.

I totally believe it. First, Vlade often speaks candidly about things like this, such as admitting he had a better offer on the table for DMC after the fact. Secondly, there are more than a few out there that believe Fox is the best player in the draft. It's not a stretch at all to believe that the Kings are one of them. I respect that you don't choose to believe that, but I certainly do. The only player I could see them possibly liking better was Josh Jackson. But I still don't think that was the case.

Even though it is typical for GMs to say that they thought their guy was the #1 guy, I have a sneaking suspicion that Divac was telling the truth when he said he would have drafted Fox #1. Part of the reason for him doing so wouldn't just be physical ability, but his ability to lead, his maturity, his coachability, and his candid desire to be in Sacramento.

I think he would have had a hard time not taking Jackson. I remember reading something that Fox is the guy they're hoping is at 5 but they'd be "ecstatic if Jackson was available".

I do think the swap/Phoenix pick made it a lot easier for us, and I think if we had picked Jackson we would have kept 10 and chosen the best PG available. If Giles is the player everyone thought he was before injury then we likely win big as a result of the swap.

That's a lot of ifs though.

No it was all star pau gasol for kwame brown, a couple other scrubs and the rights to a second rounder that no one knew would turn out to be as good as he is. We did not get 3 first round picks or basically 4 that you are implying. We got buddy, 1 top 3 protected first round pick and a second. That's it. Vlade is horrible at trades. But he is a genius when it comes to draft day and/or draft day trades. He turn lemons into lemonade or coal into diamonds (hopefully).

But to answer your question I'm still a cousins believer so I'd prefer keeping him. But the trade I would have made or the trade he should have made was the offer he got 2 days before.

Actually in this case the end product is what the actual trade is. The trade was Buddy Hield and draft assets, those assets yielded those players, because of Vlade. If Vlade knows he can draft well and can trade well on draft day, then the assets we traded for benefit us more than in someone else's hands. This is playing to your strength and it's what a good trade is built on. So you have to count the final product. Could have done better with the first offer, but not as horrible as people say.

And, if Giles turns out to be a hidden gem, you count that too. That's why they say "that trade turned out to be pretty good". Final analysis includes how it plays out.

One of the justifications for the trade was retaining the rights for the King's first round pick. And that was per Vlade.

The second round pick is different. It should not be counted since if the trade hadn't happened and the Kings had lost their first round pick they would've kept their 2rd pick. Mason may still have been available.

Did the pick pick swap help? No. Vlade took a calculated gamble that did not pay off. The calculated risks have also not hurt the Kings to date. So I don't understand how the trade can still be called horrible in hindsight.

No way, our own pick was surely part of the thought process. With DeMarcus we had to shoot for the eighth spot and finish outside the top ten. Without we could tank. Vlade spoke about our own pick right after the trade on the radio. New Orleans didn't have to give us that pick but it definitely factored largely into to equation and was a major reason we made the move.

I still enjoy watching Cousins play. As I did when he was a King. I have found I do not miss the complaining at all.

As far as what I think about the trade. I include every draft pick/player I listed. I include Fox because that pick goes to the Bulls if Boogie is here. AND I will include every player paid with the MAX contract Boogie was going to eat up. That is what I think and how I see it. So I am one of the "people" you refer to.
