Entity,
You are on dangerous ground with a statement like that. Players need to respect the game. You are maybe too young to remember Rudy Tanjanovic (sp?). Men the size of Cousins and Griffin could literally kill each other walking into a serious punch. There is an unwritten code of ethics in basketball. It is subtle and hard to explain. I was an under-sized center in high school and grew up playing black kids for money. I learned a lot about life in those situations. I think Cousins knows all about that stuff. Griffin may need some schooling.
Every once in a while some gym rat with an attitude would show up in good pick-up games. Guys who would grab your jersey when you went buy, throw a hip, and put the ball on the ground after a made basket. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I learned to stop the game, and ask these clown type players if that is how they really wanted to play. They would usually say something like "That is just how I play" That was an open invitation to go back to the playground of race inspired play for money. I learned from the best how to play dirty. I would start by forgetting about offense for awhile and get in the guys shorts. I would be within 2-3 feet of him on a fast break, and have contact most of the time, even during a time out.. I would rebound like it was a football game. Most of these guys would disappear after 10 minutes. They would still be there, but mentally tweaked. Then I could start talking to them. Then I would drive on them hoping for some contact so I could go right throught them. There were a few guys with talent that were really tough to beat. Most of them were mentally defeated even if they had more physical skills. Guys with attitude need to be careful what they ask for. I would love to hear some stories from anyone who knows what the hell l am talking about here.
