Demarcus Freaking Cousins

LeBron on DeMarcus Cousins: "Big Cous is an All-Star, I believe."

I completely agree but I want to see a 4 quarter performance before making a thread imo, the guy impacts the game and puts up numbers effortlessly but he has a habit of slightly losing focus for certain periods which really does hurt us cause we need him so much.

Good fight back today after a beyond than dreadful start, he's done that numerous times this season which is good.

Don't worry about it. There are a lot of other people more than willing to make the thread.

A lot of maturity show bye Demarcus. He was flagrant fouled twice in a row and stayed cool (LeBron didn't get called for it but it was flagrant). My heart was in my throat after Bron threw him down thinking that that would create an incident, but he walked away. He stuck to the mentality that the best revenge is winning. Our baby boy is growing up.

For a second I thought it was going to be the Narz Mohameed incident all over again where LeBron throws a player down than stands there looking innocent with his hands up waiting to get shoved back

To put into perspective what Cuz is doing, I looked at all players who average or have averaged >=22ppg, >=11rpg, >=3 apg, >=1spg and >=1bpg. These were the results.

This year:
Cousins

Since 04-05:
Garnett(twice)

Since 99-2000:
Garnett(6 times)
Webber(once)

Since 94-95:
Garnett(6 times)
Barkley(twice)
Webber(once)
D Robinson(once)

Since 89-90:
Garnett(6 times)
Barkley(5 times)
Malone (3 times)
D Robinson (twice)
Olajuwon (twice)
Webber (once)

That's not just All Star level. That's also All-NBA and near HOF level stats. Those are stats that some of the best bigs ever only occasionally reached and even the best player who's suited up in Kings history in Webber only accomplished once and this is at age 23. It's absolutely scary the level Cuz could reach when he's 26-29. Well, scary for the other 29 teams.

Demarcus should be averaging 25-14-5 every game

Dude. Don't be ridiculous. Most (i.e. all) bigs barely hit those numbers in their prime, let alone at the ripe old age of 23.

Let's look at a few of the best big men to ever lace them up and try to fit them into your ideal averages.

Chris Webber had several seasons where he almost hit those numbers. His best season, 27.1 ppt, 11.1 rpg, 4.2 apg, came in 2001, when he was 27 years old. He is one of the few big men to ever play the game who would consistently be capable of eclipsing your 5 assist mark.

"What about Tim Duncan?" you ask. The Big Fundamental's best season came when he was 25 years old in 2002. He put up 25.5 ppg, 12.7 rpg, and 3.7 apg. In other words, not good enough for you.

Let's look at a few more names, shall we? Shaq's best season came in 2000, when he was 27 years old and put up 29.7 ppt, 13.6 rpg, and 3.8 apg. In other words, one of the greatest bigs to ever play the game falls short of your benchmarks for Cousins.

The Dream's best season came in 1993 at the ripe old age of 30, a campaign in which he put up 26.1 ppg, 13 rpg, and 3.5 apg.

Moses Malone's best year was his 1982 season at the age of 26, when he put up 31.1 ppg, 14.7 rpg, 1.8 apg. Less than 2 assists per game? What a bust!

What about Kareem? Well, you've finally found someone who could meet your criteria. Kareem had multiple seasons in which he surpassed your benchmarks, including his age 25 campaign, during which he put up a paltry 30.2 ppg, 16.1 rpg, and 5 apg. In other words, Kareem was pretty freaking good.

Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, and Kevin McHale all also fall short.

What about current players? Kevin Love comes the closest, with 25.9 ppg, 13.8 rpg, and 4.1 apg. After him, comes Demarcus at 22.7 ppg, 11.1 rpg, 3.2 apg. And then comes everyone else.

In conclusion, if Demarcus ever does average those numbers, we need to drop everything and build some statues and elect him president or something because those are numbers eclipsed only by arguably the greatest player of all time.

Young Demarcus would have gotten kicked out after the Heat decided to just start mugging him. Awesome bearded Demarcus just maintained his composure and proceeded to demolish them instead. Progress.

I was so impressed with the way Cousins handled himself. Really that flagrant foul was the turning point in the game because Cousins handled it well. the league should fine players for flagrants like that. What a great game!

Damn I missed this game but looking at the highlights, I am so impressed with DFC's composure

Its games like this I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel. We will see how the next game plays out. I'm going to temper my enthusiasm for now. Big leap for cousins though.

Despite having a monster performance, the thing that stood out to me the most was when Cousins was thrown to the ground by James late in the fourth and simply got up and walked away. Just last year we would have seen an all out brawl on the court.

Finally seeing some proof that the big man is maturing :D

I will place a hearty stamp of approval on this note. Cousins was installed by Vivek, PDA and Malone as the cornerstone, the leader, the chief honcho and blah, blah, blah and Cousins seemed to take a quantum leap forward in the ephemeral quality called maturity. To heck with the technicals, it's his demeanor that has changed. It has done a 180. Still, along comes Gay and IT asserts himself more. Gay might very well have moved in and the team would have become his. At the least, accept that as a working idea. I don't know Gay. Last night the Heat went out of their way to get Cuz kicked out of the game by goading him into a 2nd tech. 4 of them tried to dribble him and then along came the cheap shot. The Cuz of past would have responded by losing his temper and after the 1st attempt, I wouldn't have blamed him at all. I was not surprised that he handled himself well after the Chalmers' shot.

Most players would have retaliated and got a tech. The Cousins of past definitely would have responded and got a tech. He had 5 fouls if I recall correctly and certainly, as past behavior had shown, he would have been removed from the game but Malone left him in. Instead of quickly getting the 6th foul, Cuz went to work. He responded. He went into warrior mode. He was focused on winning and nothing else. Yesterday he took it the leadership mantle and claimed it as his own. This is now Cousins' team. It isn't a "in name only" kind of thing but he showed the rest of the team and anyone else who might be interested that he is the leader. The rest can follow and I am sure there is no more testing to be done.

Eventually teams are going to realize that this tactic won't work, but I'm afraid we will see this again in the short term, especially from teams that have no defensive presence inside.

Didn't look that way at all.

If anything, he knew going after LeBron would result in a quick T. That showed brains, not fear. After the second cheap shot, he knew what the Heat were intentionally trying to do, and that likely chapped his hide. STILL, he handled himself well.

He was afraid of lebron.
Cuz sure was quick to get loud with their little point guard.
Just saying.

that's asinine.

He was smart. He was sitting on 1 technical and 5 fouls. The Heat tried to antagonize him, he hopped up and stormed off before they could. Smart. In fact smart enough that he beat the Heat. they didn't get him out of the game. In fact in their efforts to do so they committed a flagrant that let us tie the game up.

I don't get the sense that Boogie is afraid of anyone in the NBA right now. He's the biggest mean mofo out there. I think only a guy like Bogut compares. Cousins has KG's attitude but is big enough to intimidate with more than his mouth.

Here is the moment our angry teenager grew up. League, you're on notice.

Everybody is willing to give Lebron a pass but not Cousins. The bias is still there. Exactly why doesn't that look like Lebron threw him to the floor with the help of a few others? Absurd.

Because Lebron James, much like Tim Duncan, has never truly been guilty of a foul, let alone barely disguised thuggery.

I wouldnt say afraid but he probably respects him more than chalmers and/or understands how the league will protect lebron and knew it wasn't worth a tech or a fine. Like most have already stated, he's growing up. And I personally am glad to see it happening right before my eyes

Ah, well, than that's it. Part of the NBA advertising machine in action. The good guys have to be saints.

True and I like it but man I would have loved to see him knock lebron a ***** ass out

Then you could have watched him be kicked out of the league. He got the best of the situation by doing exactly what he did, plus he sent a message to the league that he's not gonna fall for that kind of crap. HUGE message.

Oh, so now you put him into a dammed if you do, and dammed if you don't position. Brilliant! Lets just find something wrong, no matter what he does. I will now bite my tounge!

So, when is Lebron a free agent? He likes Malone, likes cuz, likes Ben. Does he like brand new shiny arenas and shaq too?

I think Lebron. has a future in this league.

Not sure he can play with cuz though. :)

C'mon though, he's not a fighter. This is the best a quick YouTube search has to offer.
