As Gary said earlier, this is Ballmer we are talking about here. Doc probably went to the owner (as he should) after DeAndre called him.
Doc: "Look, we have a situation here. I just got off the phone with DJ. He wishes he hadn't agreed to sign with the Mavs. He says he felt pressured by his mom, plus all of the teams needed an answer so they could make their plans, and he just blurted an answer. Now he wants to stay with us."
Ballmer: "Can he change his mind?"
Doc: "Well, people don't do that. There's a grace period involved, so technically I guess he could, be we wouldn't accept it, because it isn't..."
[Baller's face begins to inflate and turn red.]
Ballmer: "CAN HE CHANGE HIS MIND?"
Doc: "Yes, I guess, but it's not something that people do...no other team will want to trade with us, and..."
[Ballmer slaps the table hard]
Ballmer: "You head to the airport and take my plane to wherever that bastard is, and you say whatever it takes to get him to change his mind. Call up everyone else who you can call, too...call Blake in Hawaii."
Doc: "Okay, I'm going. But Cuban and the Mavericks are going to show up, too. And Fegan. It might get ugly."
Ballmer: "Fegan! That bastard. Take my gun. He gives you any grief, shoot him in the leg. I'll take care of it with the cops."
Doc: "But..."
Ballmer: "GO!"
Hope our signings go smoothly....it would be so Kings if we took some collateral damage here...mainly worried about Koufos.
I hear you, though it would take multiple teams backing out of their own deals for it to happen. I think other FOs will just watch the Mavs and Clips make a fool of each other.

Yep. Hope DeAndre drags this out until the end of the day, then I want Kosta signed ASAP tommorow morning. Send over the paperwork tonight.
But I will say that IF we can avoid any fallout to our own FAs, this whole mess could benefit us this way: A second of the West powers may be disintegrating. First Portland, now Dallas. There would be two extra slots up top (well 1 since OKC will take the first), not just one. If Dallas goes into a full rebuild, which Cuban has threatened, it could be Phx, Utah, Sac and Pels for 2 spots. Can't entirely trust Dal and Den not to be involved however.
IMO, we are more talented than Phx and Utah, though both are decent teams. Pels might win more games this season, but Gentry being stupid and telling AD to shoot threes might benefit us long-term. If Rondo plays even at 80% of what he was, we are going to have a great season.Yep. Hope DeAndre drags this out until the end of the day, then I want Kosta signed ASAP tommorow morning. You are right they could go after a bigger name free agent. So the mavs might not go after our free agents. But there is a possible ripple effect/domino effect. The team Dallas steals a free agent from (love/Lopez/Monroe whoever) will then need another free agent to sign. Then they could go after koufos. Or the next team, or the nextI am not sure why we should be any more worried than any other team. Sure, Dallas could pursue Koufas. They could also pursue Robin Lopez, Brook Lopez, Brandan Wright, Greg Monroe, Omer Asik, Biyombo, Ed Davis, and every other big that has signed this offseason. They could try to get Chandler back. They could try to get Aldridge. Hell, they could go after Kevin Love or Tristan Thompson. If DJ leaves them at the altar, they are going to have a TON of cap space. Not sure why a team sitting on $20m of cap space would try to swing Koufas with all the other big names out there...
