How are multiple people writing off this dude after a month? He had major shoulder surgery and next to zero rehab appearances in the GLeague. He’s trying to find his footing and figure things out as a rookie, after a year off, in the NBA. It’s not easy.

If there’s anything to be concerned about with him, it’s his durability. Because I swear something new on him gets banged up every time he’s on the court. But I have zero doubts he’ll be a capable player if health starts cooperating.

It's not readily apparent. He's coming off injury and surgery. Missed training camp. Missed preseason. Limited time with the G League team. Limited time with the big club. He's already had two head coaches despite the extreme brevity of his NBA career thus far. I'd suggest we wait until he's got more than a fraction of a season under his belt before we determine that he was or wasn't BPA.

"Coming off injury and surgery" instantly acknowledges he wasn't BPA - namely because he was unable to play. This is a "win now" team. It doesn't have time to waste on projects and rehabilitation. Can you acknowledge actual rim protection would have seen this team in a different place?

How has his time off morphed into a year? He played in the NCAA tourney I thought? Isn't that like 8-9 months and barely 1/2 an NBA season? I agree more time is needed but he's putting up stats in the G league when he's there so it's not like he can't play basketball right now because he's rusty.

I'm not necessarily writing him off and hope he develops, but he wasn't the answer for a team looking to take the next step. We needed athletic size and someone to put next to Sabonis that can rim protect. Instead we drafted another guard (and one that needed surgery). I think that's partially what lead to Fox being out the door. The front office is tone deaf on these things. We've seen it time and time again.

Best player available /= most able to contribute now. In fact, BPA is often the opposite of that. If you're drafting BPA, you're taking the guy you believe is going to have the greatest long-term impact throughout his career. If you're drafting for need, you worry about players who can contribute now and can shore up areas of deficiency. It sounds like you think the Kings should have drafted for need. I like Ware a lot. I think he's going to be an impact player. He might ultimately have been the best player available. But we don't know that yet.

Personally, I think you always draft BPA unless you're already contending for a title, and if doing so happens to fill a need or shore up an area of deficiency, then great. Monte thought Carter was BPA, and I happen to agree. If it turns out that Monte was wrong, well, eventually the Kings will hire a new GM who hopefully makes the right call. But it's all rolls of the dice, rarely is it clear cut, and often it's inexplicable why one guy pans out and another doesn't. It's easy enough to say who BPA was in hindsight, but we're not even close to making that judgment yet with this most recent draft class.

I don't watch college so don't know if this is a him getting used to NBA speed/returning from injury thing, or it's just him but to me he doesn't look like a very fluid mover...results in him being out of control and awkward which is maybe leading partly to him getting banged up all the time as you mentioned from being out of position

They are writing him off because he was hyped like the 2nd Coming, like he was going to have some major impact in his rookie year. If he would have been looked upon as a typical rookie picked in the the middle of draft it wouldn't have been a big deal and he would be given a couple of years to show his stuff like every other rookie

Ware looks like absolutely a better pick at the moment.He would be playing big minutes for Kings right away.Carter obviously has a very good reason to be behind in his development because of the injury though.

One question I have regarding Carter is his ability to stay healthy. He hits the floor a lot because of his physical game, and he has a kind of herky-jerky style, which from my experience tends to bring more injuries. For a guy who isn't all that big I wonder what percentage of games he will play going forward.

Rookies looking awkward and out of control is nothing new or unusual.Bulls rookie Buzelis was really struggling at the beginning of the season , in last 5 games or so he is starting to look like an absolute steal. Let's give him time.

I'm sure he's keenly aware of the Hawks' pick owned by the Spurs from the whirlwind of speculation before his trade. Obviously, they want to win in a head-to-head matchup to further bury the Hawks and provide increased odds for the Cooper Flagg prize. Unfortunately, if the Spurs "lucked" into the number one pick and selected Flagg, it probably will be the end of Fox w/ San Antonio based on how they appear to thing Castle is the future.
