Darren Collison Suspended 8 Games

8 games sounds about right.

Time for ty Lawson to seize the opportunity and help get the kings off to a hot start.

I predict that the kings will get off to a solid 5-3 or 6-2 start with Lawson starting at point guard. I think Lawson may win the starting point guard spot with a hot start by the kings.

Hmm, I was guessing 5 games. But 8 isn't bad and seems appropriate given what we know.

Cousins/Koufos/Papagiannis
Cauley-Stein/Tolliver/Labassiere
Gay/Casspi/Barnes
Afflalo/McLemore/Richardson
Collison/Lawson/Temple

The only one among those 15 listed with an unguaranteed contract is Lawson. Does a suspension allow the team to sign a 16th player during the duration?

Because otherwise, even without a bounce back from last year's poor showing I think Lawson beats out Farmar and I Cousins.

That would leave he and Temple as the only options at PG for the first 8 games.

Yeah, I was hoping for between 5 and 10 games, so pleased with eight. I expect the Capt will have an answer to your question, but just off the top of my head, which contains a decaying brain I might add, the Kings have the right to appeal; But I doubt the league would grant it on so few games.

I doubt the kings would appeal, collision might, but kings wouldn't.

It would be bad PR and 8 games sounds fair enough. Could of been much worse.

From Larry Coon:

Any player who is suspended by the league for six or more games may be transferred to the team's Suspended List following the fifth game of his suspension (and must remain on the team's Active List for the first five games).

So, no we do not get an extra spot until five games. I'd guess we cut the worse of Lawson and Farmar in preseason, and then add him for those three games.

Collison will be placed on the suspended list after 5 games. So we can sign someone after 5 games.

The good thing is from viewing the scrimmage is that we will be running a lot of bigs in high post Princeton style offense. As long as the PG's can run the team and get us into our offense we should be able to skirt by the first eight games without Collison. Maybe its good that Lawson will be given big minutes early to see if he can regain his confidence, if he can succeed it makes it all the better when Collison returns. I'm expecting high assist games from Cousins early on.

8 games is a positive...could of always been worse. Ty Lawson, Temple and Farmar need to hold the fort down until he returns.

I expected about 10 games so this is reasonable. At least this gives us a chance to start the season in a reasonably solid way. Lawson and Temple can handle to load for the first 8 games. Positive for me is that Collison can play in PS games and can train with the team even when suspended. When he comes back at least there will be a solid base of familiarity with the systems, plays and the players themsleves.

so after 5 games he is on "suspended list" vs "active list" , wouldn't that mean we could only dress 12 players for 5 days and then 13 players for 3 days
but does that really change the maximum 15 contracts rule? can you really hire someone for 3 days?

So I guess the Max 15 contracts are the same as max 15 Roster limit. But if you can not sign 10-day contracts until Jan 5 , I guess you could sign a 1 year contract but have to waive the player after 3 games?
would be a vet min of about a Million bucks for 3 days of Farmar?

The team is on a road trip. I doubt they would sign anyone for 3 games.

To me, this is great news. He can practice with the team and be a part of preseason stuff. This will help him gel with the new players.
These are the first 8 games:
@Suns
Spurs
Timberwolves
@Hawks
@Heat
@Magic
@Bucks
@Raptors

To me, that is not a terrible schedule. I think the Spurs, @Hawks, and @Raptors are the only 'likely' losses. I think the @Suns, T-Wolves, @Magic, and @Bucks games should be wins. I could easily see at worst 3-5 and 4-4 is more probable while 5-3 and even 6-2 are not out of the question.

For anyone butt-hurt about how lenient the suspension was, please note that the NBA did what looks to be a thorough investigation for determining the length of his suspension. And apparently the investigation concluded that whatever Collison did, "he never struck his wife" (according to today's column by Aileen V.). I won't speculate as to what he might have done to deserve the loss of nearly $400,000 in income. But I do trust that the NBA was fair and reasonable.

Trust the NBA to be fair and reasonable? Nope and that is irregardless of this case. To do what they feel is "politically" correct and what they feel will minimize bad PR and possibly earn some positive PR? Yes and that too is irregardless of this case.

In terms of the Kings, it could have been worse.

In terms of what Collison may have done to deserve to lose nearly $400, 000 in income, don't know and recognize that it could simply be part of the business that allows him to earn the income he does in the first place. I hope he and his wife can put this in the past and enjoy the rest of their lives together as a family.

I was surprised to see the majority of posters at Sactown Royalty saying that the suspension was too lenient and that Collison should have been punished more. Or comparing it to the Jeff Taylor incident.

Domestic violence is an ugly blight on society but not all crimes are equal. Taylor slammed a woman's head into a wall, kicked a hole in a wall or door and fought with security all while being intoxicated. Not apples to apples with what we've heard about Collison's incident where spitting (gross) and shoving (not acceptable) occurred.

It's also worth noting that the same panel that determined Taylor's suspension also determined Collison's. And in a time frame where the NFL's botched handling of Ray Rice's attack on his fiance has the sports world watching such things closely.

I have to assume they weighed the evidence and made a proper decision regarding Collison's suspension.

To me the penalty is just about right. Darren made a mistake, Has a good track record in the past, His wife and family have forgiven him. He seems to be a genuine good dude who made a mistake.
