Darko? Star or unfulfilled promise?

To be fair, Kahn was the first person to realize that Darko had the passing ability of Vlade Divacs.

Darko has actually shown a lot of promise during his career, but people moan and say he's the worst big in the league because he was never a star. He is a starting caliber player (yes, I just said that). He is a good rebounder, shotblocker, and fair post passer. He has good hands. He's athletic (or was when he was drafted.). Give the Darko jokes a rest.

He's 27 years old. If he hasn't achieved stardom by now, chances are he's not going to all of a sudden jump into the elite level. And Darko will NEVER reach the level of Vlade Divac, which was what ninjabicuit was referring to.

In all seriousness though, considering Darko was drafted at number 2 (after LeBron and before Carmelo, Bosh and Wade), his career has been a failure based on the expectations that were surrounding him. Is he a good player? Starter caliber? Eh, maybe depending on the team and situation. Certainly a good role player. But again based on the expectations that came with him - his career has been disappointing.

Also, we're 10 years into his career. No more time for promise.

I said that he's shown promise. I agree that it's gone. He's a bust now, but skillwise, as a player, he was never very bad. Overdrafted, yes, and the expectations were too high, but he was never a bad player.

P.S. I didn't meen to say that he was as good as Vlade. Just wanted to point out that he's not as terrible as people think he is.
