Dancing with the Stars finale

I was so totally impressed with Jerry Rice that I just have to comment. Jerry, the ultimate wide receiver, was clearly way out of his comfort zone for this entire show but he kept at it and became...a ballroom dancer. No, he'll never win any major competitions but he has clearly learned something he had absolutely no experience in...and he did it in front of a crowd WITHOUT a uniform and helmet. ;)

I actually liked this season's dancers much better than last time.

Congrats to the Lachey brother NOT formerly married to Jessica Simpson for walking away with the prize.

:D

I missed the finale, but I was totally impressed with Jerry Rice, too, VF. He is such a gentleman and class act.

Stacy was a ringer.
I like how, going into this thing, nobody wanted to take her seriously because of her association with professional wrestling. And then, once people realized, "damn, she can really dance," it began to bother some people that she took dancing lessons as a kid. It's not like she's been dancing professionally; saying that she was a ringer because she took ballet as a kid strikes me as being equivalent to accusing a guy of being a ringer in a YMCA rec league because he might have played high school ball.

Exactly, Slim. Lots of people took dance lessons as a kid. There is a big difference between taking recreational dance lessons and training seriously for a dancing career, something that Stacey never did! She was robbed, and so were Jerry and Anna. It should of been them winning, Stacey and her partner coming in second, and Drew and Cheryl in third.

She wasn't out of her comfort zone, Slim. I'm sorry if that gets yours and RD's feathers all ruffled.

I guess I just don't take this thing as seriously as you do...

;)

Just for the record however? My "ringer" comment had nothing to do with her dancing lessons as a child. It had EVERYTHING to do with a statuesque blonde with 42 inch legs wearing skimpy costumes every week.

I still think Jerry Rice was the true winner. He really was able to do something NO ONE expected him to do.

Jerry lost? I didn't see the show but I wanted him to win. I can't picture him ballroom dancing but he did well getting that far.

Eh, I would have been more impressed if it had been someone lesser known than Jerry Rice; I strongly got the impression that he was being sustained in the contest by massive fan support, despite being one of the weakest dancers, while Stacy was summarily **** on (if you'll pardon my French) by the fan voting, despite consistently having the highest marks, or near enough. I wonder how long he would have lasted if he were a professional bowler instead of a nearly universally-liked Hall-of-Fame football player.

I'm inclined to believe that Jerry got a lot of "waltzing bear" votes...

EDIT - And I never implied that she was "out of her comfort zone," VF; I'm just not on board with the "ringer" comments.

You're taking my comments WAY too seriously, Slim. I suppose I should have used the ;) but please... a tall, sultry-looking blonde with incredibly long legs, skimpy costumes, etc. You think they wouldn't have done everything possible to keep her around to the end even if she'd broken her partner's foot in a clumsy move?

;)

As far as getting someone "lesser known" than Jerry Rice, the title of the show is "Dancing with the STARS." If anything, Drew Lachey was the one out of place. Like anyone who wasn't enamored of boy bands would have a clue who he was?

I'm with VF on the "Ringer" comment. I think her time as an NFL Cheerleader qualifies as more than "dance lessons as a kid". Even if it wasn't "Ballroom Dancing" it still gave her an advantage imho.
