Daly, and Opinions On our FO

Hall of Famer
Here's his quotes from after the game last night partly regarding why he isn't currently a King. We have another player claiming our FO didn't act professionally. Not sure how much of this I believe, as it's one side to the story, but I get the impression he could have been back with us, and actually might have wanted to return. If this is true, I'm really not that happy that our FO decided going against a frontline which dominated games down the stretch last year, only to see our small, non-defensive frontline be one of our weaknesses this year.

The way talks broke down isn't something Dalembert like. Nor did he like the Kings issuing a statement about the talks.

"You know that's the business is and sometimes there's bad blood," Dalembert said. "I was expecting a more professional approach but obviously some people handle things differently. To me obviously they were upset and I wasn't wrong. I feel bad, they have a great fan base over there, I loved playing over there but I had the feeling they really didn't want me back. For them to come out and say something like that it shows they really didn't have it in mind to get me back. It's the way it is and it's the way the business is and I've had to deal with it."

Dalembert believed the Kings were on the verge of improvement this season. But the team Dalembert faced Friday is a lot different than the one that finished the season.

"I feel bad that we couldn't finish what we started at the end of the season," Dalembert said. "I think we had a good chemistry with the young guys but I don't think the organization felt the same way but no grudges. My short time over there I did learn to like the city really well and the fans."

So, did Daly play us as has been suggested, or was he frustrated by what he perceived as a lack of professionalism from our FO? And did our FO really not see the value in having him next to Cousins, and instead thought our current frontline would be more successful?

I'm not surprised. We had a chance to sign Dalembert. It's up to the fans to believe what they wish.

Writers have to find something to write about. I think Jones went to Dalembert to get quotes to support what he - Jones - wanted to write. To me, it's water under the bridge. Once Hayes is back in business, I think we might end up being satisfied with what's happened. And, for what it's worth, I do not think Daly was all that ecstatic about staying here in Sacramento.

Look, there's simply NO WAY that things went down the way both of the sides are saying - they are almost polar opposites of one another.

The Kings FO insist that they made it clear they wanted Dally, and other accounts have confirmed they offered him the 2 most lucrative offers.
The record shows that Dally said he wanted back in Sac (etc etc etc) the night before he accepted a less-lucrative offer in Houston.

Dally is saying NOW, all of a sudden, that the FO was unprofessional, the talks broke down and that they didn't want him.

The FO has talked more-than-usual about this situation when it was happening and IIRC what they have said isn't anywhere CLOSE to what he's saying now.

It's quite more likely to me that Dally was expecting the FO to bend over and offer him a $10+ million multi-year contract and he's butthurt because not only didn't the Kings, but noone in the NBA would (probably because he doesn't play hard unless he's motivated, as proven last night vs the Kings).

How I think it happened: Daly was intent on leveraging the Kings offer to get more from Houston. Kings caught on to it and "withdrew our offer" which cost Daly money when he had to take Houston's offer or risk winding up Bonzi'd (he believed he could squeeze more out of Houston). So he's pissed.

I don't know for sure what happened, but I do know that Petrie has a tendecy to look out for players, and doesn't bandy their names around in the press. The fact that he did make a statement, tends to make me believe Petrie. Whatever the truth, there's not much point in persuing it now. Whats done is done. I would have loved to have Dalembert back, but its not to be. So believe who you want. It won't change anything.

Sounds about right.

whatever happened its simple. We goota move on. When the Rockets come to Sacto. Demarcus better have his game ready to give it right back

He can say whatever he wants, fact is he took less money to play elsewhere and to me that means he really wanted to be elsewhere, and I don't think its because the FO was sending mixed signals.

Now that Dally is saying the approach on him was unprofessional and he didn't feel the FO really wanted him back in Sacramento, it confirms how poor Petrie deals on the negotiating table. Correct me if I am wrong. If I remember it right, it was Sacramento who withdrew the offer to Dally that morning then Dally signed-up with Houston. We did not try hard enough to negotiate and we did not wait.
