CSN bay area says Kings expected to stay

Wow, I'll gladly eat a huge helping of crow if this is so. I could swear that they were on their way out after hearing George speak earlier today but I guess not. Let's hope that CSN bay area has good sources.

I imagine that a reworking of the Comcast broadcast deal factored heavily into the decision making process. So if the Maloofs decided to keep the team in Sac this year, it would at least be partly due to a more profitable deal with Comcast. So it's very possible that someone associated with Comcast would have known the decision tonight, and leaked it to CSN.

it's being more believable that the hard decision they made is about selling. if the nba told them to expect to stay in sacramento.

Notice the wording? A source says "the NBA has told the Maloofs to expect the Kings to stay in Sacramento next year." Not that the Maloofs themselves have said it. The NBA has told them.

Could mean three less than exciting things:

1) the NBA is running this show now, not the Maloofs
2) the Maloofs still COULD defy the NBA and apply anyway -- the source doesn't say the Maloofs have said they're staying, but rather the NBA
3) assuming the source is correct, it would seem to indicate if the Maloofs do file, that the NBA has done a straw count, and the BOG would currently vote for them to stay

Yes but the most important thing is that the NBA told them to expect to be in Sacramento next year. If that isn't saying they'll be in Sacramento regardless of whether they file or not, I don't know what is. It's basically the NBA telling the Magoofs that they can stay in Sacramento the easy way...or the hard way.

I caught that wording too. Can we be seeing a little gamesmanship between the Maloofs and Stern? First we hear an announcement the the Maloofs will put out a press release tomorrow. Then I saw that there would be a press release by the NBA before the Maloofs make theirs... not after, before! And then this interestingly worded story saying the NBA told the Maloofs to stay. Not The Maloofs decided to stay. It almost looks like a war of announcements between them.

Yeah I notices that too. But what I got from it is that

1. It's just as you said that the NBA is running the show or....

2. (mr. sinister here) that COMCAST itself is trying to force the issue on the kings that they stay by trupeting that the NBA is telling the Kings to "expect" to stay. because, this is technically just a rehash of news that's about a week old, from that conference call that was reported... but just ever so slightly different wording.

By comcast doing this... they effectively put more pressure on the maloofs. More political winds shift to create the pressure, basically just re-iterating, in a cleverly worded way that assumes the NBA has the ultimate authority, rather than the Maloofs (which is what their media releases' language assumes). It is very intersting wording. But I like it nonetheless.
