Woman nabbed for alleged DUI at same crash spot

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080521/D90PRU7O0.html

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) - Call it drunken driving deja vu. For the second time in five months, a 23-year-old California woman has been arrested after she allegedly crashed her car while driving under the influence at the exact same spot north of Lake Tahoe.
And to top it off, Truckee Police say that in both cases, her blood alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit.
Police say Melissa Dennison of Truckee crashed at about noon on Sunday on Glenshire Drive just south of the Glenshire Bridge. They say she was extremely intoxicated and had trouble standing or walking. Her blood alcohol level initially was measured at .346. The legal limit is .08.
Sgt. J. Litchie said Dennison also had been charged with a DUI in January when she crashed at the same spot and registered a blood alcohol level of .380.
If convicted of the second offense, she faces up to 10 years in prison and fines in excess of $2,000. A telephone message The Associated Press left at a listing for Dennison in Truckee on Tuesday was not immediately returned.

Boy, 12, faces drunken driving charge after crash

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080519/D90P0NP00.html

HARTMAN, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas preteen faces a drunken driving charge after he and a friend drank his parents' beer, "got liquored up" and crashed his stepfather's pickup truck, the Johnson County sheriff said.
Sheriff Jimmy Dorney said the 12-year-old boy and his 10-year-old friend drove off in the truck May 4 to find a girl they met at a rodeo. The boys made it about 10 miles before the 12-year-old lost control of the truck.
Dorney said the truck hit and jumped over a guardrail, sending it careening 50 feet down a steep hill into a forest.
Clark James, 46, who lives down the road from the crash site, said he answered the boys' banging at his front door with shotgun in hand about 2:30 a.m.
"I opened the door and the first thing (the 12-year-old) said to me was, 'I'm drunk and I had a wreck,'" James said. "I looked at him and I thought 'You're kind of young to be out drinking. And you sure shouldn't be driving.'"
Neither boy was seriously injured in the crash. County prosecutor Bruce Wilson said that he will charge the 12-year-old boy with drunken driving and several other misdemeanor charges in district and juvenile court in Johnson County.

Naked pilot, flight attendant arrested in woods

And the hits just keep coming tonight....

http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080520/D90PIL800.html

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - An airline pilot was found hiding behind a shed wearing only flip-flops and a wristwatch as a nighttime romp in the woods with a flight attendant ended with both under arrest, police said.
Jeffrey Paul Bradford, 24, and Adrianna Grace Connor, 24, both employees of Pinnacle Airlines Inc., were at a diner on the outskirts of Harrisburg on Sunday night before they apparently decided to walk into the woods, police said.
"They told the officer they wanted to go do it in the woods, essentially," said Lower Swatara Township police Sgt. Richard Brandt. "That's the best answer they had."
The two somehow became separated, and people who live in the neighborhood summoned police around 9:30 p.m., saying they had seen a naked man and an intoxicated woman.
A helicopter with heat-seeking equipment was called in, and Bradford was discovered hiding behind a shed shortly before midnight.
Bradford, of Pittsburgh, was charged with indecent exposure, public drunkenness and other offenses. Connor, of Belleville, Mich., was charged with theft from a motor vehicle, public drunkenness and other offenses; police said she took a flashlight from a neighbor's vehicle.
A spokesman for the Memphis, Tenn., airline said the two were suspended while the company investigates. The office of District Justice Michael John Smith, where Bradford and Connor were arraigned, said they were not represented by lawyers. Telephone listings for them could not be located by The Associated Press.

Dutch man injures posterior in mooning accident

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080604/ap_on_fe_st/mooning_mishap

UTRECHT, Netherlands - Utrecht police say a 21-year-old Dutch man is recovering after a "mooning" that went horribly wrong.

A police statement says the man and two others had run down a street in Utrecht with their pants pulled down in the back "for a joke."

It says that at one point the 21-year-old "pushed his behind against the window of a restaurant" that broke and resulted in "deep wounds to his derriere."

The statement released Tuesday says police detained the three men after the incident Sunday morning. But the cafe owner decided not to press charges after the men agreed to pay for the broken window.
The injured man was treated for his injuries at a nearby hospital.

Woman Protesting Gas Prices Set Fires in Restrooms

DANVILLE, Calif. — Police in the San Francisco Bay area say a woman set fires in the restrooms of two gas stations and a coffee house and told them she did it to protest high gas prices.
No structural damage was reported at the Arco station, the Chevron station and the Starbucks in Danville where fires were set Wednesday using fireplace logs and a lighter.
Police say they later found 64-year-old Diane Craig at a nearby fast food restaurant with eight fireplace logs with her. Authorities say she told officers that she was behind the fires and that she woke up that morning wanting to do something about high gas prices.
Craig was arrested on suspicion of premeditated arson and burglary.
Police say they don't know why the Starbucks was targeted.

Woman, 74, accused of smuggling heroin in luggage

http://www.cnn.com/2008/CRIME/06/13/heroin.arrest/index.html

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- A 74-year-old woman faces charges of smuggling heroin after $180,000 worth of the drug was found in her luggage Friday when she arrived at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, authorities said.
Maria Resfa Garzon De Arenas made an initial appearance in federal court later Friday, federal prosecutors said. She was charged with importing heroin into the United States and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. If convicted, she could face up to life in prison.
Garzon De Arenas arrived in Fort Lauderdale about 3 p.m. Friday from Bogota, Colombia, authorities said. "During the inspection of Garzon De Arenas' personal belongings, U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel discovered several personal effects in the luggage in which heroin was concealed. The heroin was sewn within the lining of notebook binders, a jewelry case and in a false cavity of women's slippers."
About 6.5 pounds of heroin was found, valued at $180,000, according to federal prosecutors.
Garzon De Arenas will appear in court Wednesday for a detention hearing, authorities said.

New Orleans man hid heroin in his diaper, feds say

Associated Press
Published on: 06/13/08

NEW ORLEANS — Frank Keys Jr. faces up to 40 years in prison after he was found cruising down the highway with more than 200 grams of heroin in the diaper he was wearing, federal officials said.

Baptist Parish, north of New Orleans, when sheriff's deputies pulled over the car he was in for a traffic violation, according to court documents.

The deputies and Drug Enforcement Agency special agents got permission
to search the car, and a drug-sniffing dog alerted them to the car's passenger side.

The occupants were ordered out of the car, and patted down. During the pat-down, "officers felt a large hard object in the pants area on Keys," according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.

Keys told officers he was wearing a diaper and when they asked if there was anything in the diaper, he "shook his head affirmatively."

Officers then removed a package containing about 257 grams of heroin from the diaper.

Gnawing beaver knocks out phones, services in Ark.

HOPE, Ark. — A beaver took a nibble out of a fiber optic cable northeast of Hope and knocked out telephones and other services to part of southwest Arkansas. Rain washed away soil that had covered the line about 10 miles from Hope and the beaver bit through it early Wednesday.

AT&T spokeswoman Natasha Collins said the beaver-caused outage affected Ashdown, Bodcaw, Hope and Nashville.

Emergency officials say 911 calls had to be rerouted. A manager at a Hope

Wal-Mart says customers could not pay with debit cards and that credit cards could be used for only small amounts.

A bill paying center was knocked out, and area gas stations were only able to accept cash.

Service went out at about 6:30 a.m. and was restored a little before 5 p.m.

British Woman Arrested for Cocaine-Concealing Wig

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,368319,00.html

OSLO — A British woman's bulging wig did not fool customs agents in Norway who realized she wasn't just having a bad hair day.
The wig was concealing 2.2 pounds of cocaine glued to her head and customs agents detained her on suspicion of cocaine smuggling, authorities said Wednesday.
The 32-year-old suspect, whose name was withheld, arrived late Sunday at Vaernes airport near the city of Trondheim on a flight from Copenhagen, Denmark, the customs service said.
"The agent thought she had a great deal of hair and suspected that she was wearing a wig," the agency said. "The wig was examined and the agents found a bag of cocaine."
Norway's largest newspaper, Verdens Gang, said the cocaine was glued so firmly to the woman's real hair that police brought her to the local hospital to have it removed.
Kjetil Mjoesund, of Trondheim police, confirmed that it was glued to her head, but had no information about how it was removed. He said she was taken for a routine medical check.
A court ordered the women held until July 15, pending a formal indictment and trial.

Escaped thief asks police to open handcuffs

http://www.reuters.com/article/oddl...0080616?feedType=RSS&feedName=oddlyEnoughNews

BERLIN (Reuters) - A man caught breaking into a German supermarket late at night escaped despite being handcuffed to railings -- only to be arrested after he ran to a nearby police station to get the cuffs removed.
"It was stupid of him," said a police spokesman in Frankfurt Monday. "They took the cuffs off, but they kept him."
A security guard had cuffed the man and held three others after spotting the break-in. But by the time officers arrived, the man had managed to escape, police said.
Arriving at the police station, the 19-year-old told officers he had been locked up by a friend as a joke, and asked for their help. The officers at first went along with the ruse, "also laughing at the man's apparent misfortune," police said.
However, suspecting he was the missing man from the break-in, they pressed him for details after removing the cuffs.
The man then confessed his role and was promptly re-united with his three accomplices in the station's prison cell.

California Teenager Faces 38 Years in Prison for Hacking Into School Computer

Two Orange County, Calif., high school seniors were supposed to have graduated Tuesday.
Instead, they're facing serious prison time for alleged crimes some people might not think are all that serious.
County prosecutors allege Omar Khan, 18, of Coto de Caza, and Tanvir Singh, 18, of Ladera Ranch, broke into Tesoro High School in Las Flores to steal tests and change their own and others' grades on the school computer network — and while Singh only tried doing it once, Khan apparently did it several times.
Khan's been charged with 69 felony counts and could get more than 38 years. Singh faces four counts and could wind up with three years.

Uninvited skunk causes stink, delays plane in Miami

2 hours, 28 minutes ago

MIAMI - An uninvited passenger created a smelly situation on a plane in Miami. American Airlines Flight 915 from Miami to Bogota, Colombia, was delayed Wednesday night after a skunk was found in the back of the cargo hold, discharging its foul odor throughout the aircraft, airline officials said.

The skunk was discovered as workers were loading the plane. When crews tried to remove the skunk, the animal released its notorious rotten smell, American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner said. No one was injured, but the odor filtered through the cabin and passengers were taken off the plane.

"I'm sure it smelled real bad in there," he said.

The flight took off more than two hours late, in part because of bad weather in the area, Wagner said. The skunk was removed from the plane, but it was unclear where it was taken or how it got on the aircraft.
Airport officials could not provide additional details.

Drunken fling meant groom was a taken man

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23918337-421,00.html

A BRIDEGROOM was horrified to learn after he had walked down the aisle that he was already married - after a drunken holiday romance he could barely remember.

The husband has had to confess in the Family Court that he spent 28 days partying and drinking in Arizona in 1978 on leave from his job as a cook on the oil rigs.
He can remember the "nice" blonde American woman he met through a penpal newspaper advertisement - but little more.
"He has no recollection of going through any form of ceremony of marriage with her, or of discussing marriage, or of anything referable to marriage," said Justice Sally Brown, who annulled the marriage last month.
Not only that, but the man, who describes himself as an old-fashioned romantic, was already married at the time - to his wife of 14 years.
Yesterday the 67-year-old, who cannot be identified, told The Daily Telegraph "the sky fell in" when he was shown the Arizona marriage licence.
"I looked at the signature and thought it could have been mine or it could not have been," he said.
The man had since divorced his 1966 wife. It was when he married his Hawaiian girlfriend in 2006 and applied to live in Hawaii with her that US immigration authorities broke the bad news.
He said his latest wife, who has become his girlfriend again because their marriage was declared invalid, was very understanding.
"We have been with each other on and off for over 20 years in Australia," he said.
"She's a terrific, a top cook. She looks after me and I take care of her. I couldn't find anything better.
"I'm an old-fashioned guy. I'm loving and I believe that for a marriage to work, it has to be a two-way street. She does the washing, I hang it out on the line."
The Family Court was told he had tried to track down his 1978 wife but could only find out that she had subsequently married again in 1993 in Arizona, which would have been bigamous if she had not already divorced her Australian husband.
"Other than that, no one knows where she is," the man said.
He said, now he was officially single, he planned to marry his Hawaiian girlfriend properly.

Man Accused of Walking Down Interstate Wearing Thong, Fake Breasts

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,373615,00.html

A Connecticut man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly strolled along a busy interstate wearing nothing but a thong, fake breasts and a wig.
Authorities received several calls over the weekend from motorists reporting that a man was walking alongside I-291 in the unusual attire, the Hartford Courant reported.
An hour-long search turned up David Gebhardt, 42, who was arrested by police fully clothed after they found him collecting cans behind a business in Manchester. Police said they also found a wig and fake breasts in his car.
Gebhardt is charged with disorderly conduct and simple trespass. He's free after posting $2,500 bail.

Cops: Drug-Laced Treats Dropped Off at Police Stations

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,378222,00.html

LAKE WORTH, Texas — A teenager is suspected of delivering baskets of drug-laced treats to about a dozen police departments in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to police who charged him Tuesday with LSD possession. At least three officers have gotten sick.
The 18-year-old man was arrested after taking cookies to the Lake Worth police station, said Brett McGuire, the suburb's police chief. Officers there had been tipped off that someone was falsely claiming to deliver treats on behalf of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
"Our officers took a good whiff and thought they smelled like marijuana," McGuire said, adding that preliminary tests instead detected traces of LSD.
Christian Phillips was taken into custody and later charged with possession of the powerful hallucinogen, although the charge may be changed, McGuire said.
The suspect denied trying to contaminate the goodies or harm anyone and said one of his friends might have been smoking pot while Phillips was baking, McGuire said. The suspect is not affiliated with MADD, the chief said.
Phillips remained jailed in Lake Worth pending an arraignment Wednesday. Bail had not been set, and he did not have an attorney yet, McGuire said.
In Fort Worth, at least three officers got sick after eating some cookies and candy from a basket delivered to that police station Monday night, authorities said.
Police there are conducting tests and plan to file charges if LSD or another drug or chemical is found in the food, said Lt. Paul Henderson.
Lake Worth investigators found that Phillips had a list of about two dozen police departments in north Texas, with 13 checked off, McGuire said. It's unclear whether anyone else got sick because some deliveries were made in the past week.
Police in Blue Mound found traces of marijuana in the treats, he said. Blue Mound police tipped off Lake Worth after receiving a call from MADD that no one was delivering cookies on its behalf.

Edit:

this one should be recalled:

http://cbs11tv.com/local/cookie.cookies.drug.2.768024.html

A teenager accused of delivering drug-laced cookies to a dozen police stations was the victim of overzealous officers who had very little evidence indicating drugs were inside the treats, his attorney said Thursday.

And lab results released late Thursday afternoon confirm that no drugs were present in any of the cookies.

Police find $400K cocaine stash — in cop car

Drugs found in hydraulically controlled compartments in undercover vehicle
The Associated Press
updated 5:13 a.m. PT, Thurs., July. 10, 2008

DALLAS - Police didn't have to go far to find $400,000 worth of cocaine — it was in an undercover car they'd been driving for two months.
An officer cleaning the car at a patrol station Wednesday discovered the nearly 50 pounds of cocaine carefully hidden in hydraulically controlled compartments.
"These compartments have recently been more and more popular with drug operations," said Deputy Chief Julian Bernal, commander of the narcotics division.
Dallas police put the two-door 2004 black Infiniti into police service on May 7 after seizing it at a drug house. It had been found at a drug house earlier this year along with a 1999 Honda.
Bernal said the narcotics division searched both vehicles and found nothing unusual after the seizure. The Honda was sold at auction.
Bernal said police plan to contact the person who bought the Honda to find out if drugs are hidden in that car, too. And, they are also trying to find out who owned the cocaine they have been secretly driving around with.

I don't know what's more humorous/sad - the fact that this guy got drunk and did this or the fact that they have a camera set up to record their lightsaber duels. :p Apparently they just leave this camera running for any impromptu "battles"? ;)

HOLYHEAD, Wales — A man who dressed up as Darth Vader, wearing a garbage bag for a cape, and assaulted the founders of a group calling itself the Jedi church was given a suspended sentence Tuesday.
Arwel Wynne Hughes, 27, attacked Jedi church founder Barney Jones — aka Master Jonba Hehol — with a metal crutch, hitting him on the head, prosecutors told Holyhead Magistrates' Court.
He also whacked Jones' 18-year-old cousin, Michael Jones — known as Master Mormi Hehol — bruising his thigh in the March 25 incident, prosecutors said.
The two cousins and Barney Jones' brother, Daniel, set up the Church of Jediism, Anglesey order, last year. Jedi is the faith followed by some of the central characters in the "Star Wars" films.
The group, which claims about 30 members, says on its Web site that it uses "insight and knowledge" from the films as "a guide to living a better and more worthwhile life."
"We all love the films and what they stand for. Obviously some people are going to laugh about it," the Wales on Sunday newspaper quoted Barney Jones as saying last month. "But a lot of people do take it seriously."
Unfortunately for Hughes, his March attack was recorded on a video camera that the cousins had set up to film themselves in a light saber battle.
"Darth Vader! Jedis!" Hughes shouted as he approached.
Hughes claimed he couldn't remember the incident, having drunk the better part of a 2 1/2-gallon box of wine beforehand.
"He knows his behavior was wrong and didn't want it to happen but he has no recollection of it," said Hughes' lawyer, Frances Jones.
District Judge Andrew Shaw sentenced Hughes to two months in jail but suspended the sentence for one year. He also ordered Hughes to pay $195 to each of his victims and $117 in court costs.
In the 2001 United Kingdom census, 390,000 — 0.7 percent of the population — listed Jedi as their religion.
That is hilarious!

Bubble burst? Off-Broadway show's suds stolen

Wed Jul 23, 11:29 PM ET

NEW YORK - The bubble might have burst for off-Broadway's "Gazillion Bubbles Show." Someone has stolen the show's specialized soapy bubble solution, which takes two months to make.

A show spokesman says 3.4 tons of bubble solution and 6,000 toys went missing in the June 10 break-in at a Hoboken, N.J., warehouse.

The show has only six weeks worth of solution on hand to make the air-filled globes of soapy film.

The interactive show was created by renowned bubble artist Fan Yang. It features dazzling light effects, lasers and lots of bubbles — some so intricate or big they have smoke, other bubbles or even people inside them. Yang has put up to four children in one bubble.

Yang and his wife, Ana Yang, also have a bubble show in Las Vegas.

Drunken Passengers Go on Rampage, Force Plane's Emergency Landing

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,391749,00.html

BERLIN — Two drunken British women went on a rampage on a charter plane, hitting one flight attendant with a bottle of vodka and trying to open a cabin door as the aircraft was cruising over Austria at 10,000 meters, police said Saturday.

The staff on the flight from Greece to England eventually forced the women back to their seats and the pilot made an emergency landing in Frankfurt on Thursday, police told The Associated Press, confirming a statement they had issued on Friday.

The identities of the women, aged 26 and 27, were not released, but police said the 26-year-old may be charged with attempted assault and interfering with air traffic.

Both women were released, police said.

The rampage occurred when a flight attendant denied the women alcohol because they were visibly intoxicated, police said. The 26-year-old took a swipe at a cabin attendant with a bottle of vodka, then attempted to open a cabin door.

"Apparently the 26-year-old wanted to catch some fresh air," the statement said, in an effort to make light of the altercation.

The two women were taken into custody by police at the Frankfurt airport and given a breathalyzer test. Both were legally intoxicated.

After an hour in Frankfurt, the flight continued on to Manchester, England.

Sounds like they should have been cut off a long time before it got to that point. That's got to be really scary for the other passengers.

I think most jets have locks on the cabin doors that keep them from opening mid-flight, but do you realize that when a crazy drunk on your flight is trying to jump out the door? I don't know if you do.

Porn film made at First World War memorial

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...rn-film-made-at-First-World-War-memorial.html

While common acts of desecration have in the past included vandalism and graffiti, indecent photographs and videos are increasingly being shot around the magnificent structures built during the post-war years to remember the fallen.
The latest incident saw a French couple given a four-month suspended prison sentence for making a pornographic video at the Vimy Ridge memorial near Arras.
After being found guilty of exhibitionism, they were fined £400 each and ordered to pay a symbolic one euro (80 pence) in damages to Canada, which lost 60,000 men in the Great War.
Many Canadians perished in the Battle of Vimy Ridge, in April 1917, when four members of the Canadian Corps received Victoria Crosses.
Despite the courageous deeds and sacrifice honoured by the Vimy Memorial, the couple are believed to have stripped naked and performed sex acts beside the soaring stone structure.
They then posted the video on a website, invited people to pay to watch it.
Their punishment came just six months after another couple were fined for taking nude photographs of themselves in the same place.
In the latest case, heard at Arras criminal court, involving the married couple, who are in their 30s, lawyers expressed concern at the gradual increase in such incidents at the memorial.
The prosecutor, Elise Bozzolo, said: "The memorial has been known for a long time as a place where exhibitionism and voyeurism is common."
Police who investigated the case said similar incidents were regularly reported at other memorial and military graveyards.
"It is a problem which appears to be getting worse - people appear to get a perverse pleasure out of this behaviour," said a police spokesman in Arras.
The Canadian National Vimy Memorial took eleven years to build and was unveiled by King Edward VIII in front of 50,000 veterans and their families in 1936.
The battlefield park which surrounds it was granted in perpetuity to Canada in 1922. The site now draws half a million visitors a year.

Killer gets life sentence plus pizza, fried chicken in plea deal

PORTLAND, Oregon – A New York man who pleaded guilty to murder in exchange for buckets of fried chicken will get calzones and pizza to go with his life sentence.

Tremayne Durham, 33, of New York City, admitted last month that he fatally shot Adam Calbreath, 39, of Gresham, in June 2006.

Durham wanted to sell ice cream and ordered an $18,000 truck from an Oregon company. He later changed his mind, but the company wouldn't provide a refund.

The would-be ice cream man came to Oregon and killed Calbreath, a former employee of the company, while looking for its owner, authorities said.

Durham agreed to plead guilty to murder — but only if he could get a break from jail food. The judge agreed and granted Durham a feast of KFC chicken, Popeye's chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake, and ice cream.

After Wednesday's sentencing, Durham was to get the rest of the deal — calzones, lasagna, pizza, and ice cream, his defense attorney confirmed. They will pay the tab.

Durham also got married Wednesday in a civil ceremony at the Portland courthouse. The wedding to Vanessa Davis, 48, also of New York City, was not part of the plea deal that will give Durham a chance for parole after 30 years.

Deputy District Attorney Josh Lamborn said Multnomah County Judge Eric Bergstrom made the right call in allowing the unusual plea agreement because it saved the expense of a trial and possible appeals. - AP
