Deputies Handcuff 7-Foot Alligator Near Florida School

http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/ne...s-rein-in-gator-near-elementary-school-091310

OLDSMAR - Three Pinellas deputies worked together to capture a large alligator Monday morning, keeping it away from a crosswalk where kids were walking to a nearby elementary school.

Crossing Guard Denise Leone spotted the 7.5-foot gator lying against a wall between a subdivision and the sidewalk next to Forest Lakes Elementary school just before 7 a.m. She immediately called deputies, and they called a trapper when they arrived.

The trapper wasn't able to get to the area right away, and the alligator started moving toward the intersection where kids were crossing to get to school, according to the sheriff's office.

Working quickly, the three deputies were able to get a rope around the gator's neck and tail before the creature started to fight back.

One photo from the sheriff's office shows one of the deputies sitting atop the wall the gator was near and lowering the rope down.

Deputies say the gator started thrashing and rolling around, even smashing into the wall and causing pieces of stucco to fall off. Deputies Jeffrey Crandall, Michael Bard, and Richard Serra, Jr., were able to put handcuffs around its hind legs and tape over its mouth once it stopped rolling around.

Fish and Wildlife Officials came to take custody of the alligator until the trapper arrived.

Teens Get Porn Shock During Blood Bank Presentation

http://www.aolnews.com/nation/artic...od-bank-presentation/19630164?test=latestnews

(Sept. 12) -- More than 400 students from Norwin High School in western Pennsylvania got an unexpected eyeful Friday, when a big screen presentation on the importance of donating blood suddenly turned into an X-rated slideshow.

The hardcore images -- described by students as gay pornography, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette -- were stored on a portable flash drive owned by a Central Blood Bank employee. That USB stick also contained the safe-for-all-ages PowerPoint presentation. But unfortunately, the Gazette noted, when Assistant Principal Tim Kotch plugged the drive into a computer, he unwittingly clicked on the wrong file, causing several explicit photos to appear on the school's giant TV screen.

Florida Burglars Mistake Cremated Remains for Drugs

What were these guys smoking?

A man and two dogs, as it turned out.

Waldo Soroa, 19; Matrix Andaluz, 18; Jose Marrero, 19; and two juveniles broke into a house in Florida, spotted white powder in two urns, decided it was coke or heroin, and promptly began snorting it, officials said.

But the "drugs" turned out to be the cremated remains of homeowner Holli Tencza's dad and her two Great Danes.

One of the creeps confessed to cops in Silver Springs Shores after they were busted last month in connection with a separate break-in nearby.

The crooks said they eventually realized their mistake, and had a brief attack of conscience.

They talked about returning the ashes that were left, but then they decided their fingerprints would be pulled off the urns, so they dumped the evidence in a nearby lake.

The sheriff's office is trying to retrieve the "drug" urns before any fish get hooked.

Bareheaded motorcyclist dies in helmet protest

A bareheaded motorcyclist participating in a ride to protest mandatory helmet laws was killed when he was thrown over the handlebars in Onondaga, New York.

Philip A. Contos, 55, of Parish, New York, was on a ride organized by the Onondaga chapter of American Bikers Aimed Towards Education (ABATE), state police said Sunday.

Contos hit his brakes, began fishtailing and lost control of his 1983 Harley Davidson. He shot over the handlebars, hit his head on the pavement and was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, New York, where he was pronounced dead.

State police say evidence at the scene plus information from the attending medical expert indicated Contos would have survived had he been wearing a helmet as required by state law.

Asked about the apparent irony of Contos' death, the statewide president of ABATE, Thomas Alton, said, "We are riding at an increased risk and accept that. ... This individual was a seasoned rider, not a newbie. He made an adult decision. A full decision to ride in the manner he rode in."

Arrested Pirate Claims He Was Charging For The Cases, Not The Burned DVDs

The best laughs in the country aren't found in comedy clubs or celebrity-filled roasts; if you want to really put the "L" in ROFL, you need to turn towards the court system. In today's humor-filled disposition, a store owner accused of selling illegal copies of DVDs says no, sir, he wasn't selling copyrighted DVDs – that's illegal, after all. He was actually giving the movies away for free, you see, and his customers were forking over $5 "donations" for the DVD cases.

The business only lasted a few months before an MPAA investigator told the police about the place, Ars Technica reports, citing an Orlando Sentinel article. When the cops kicked in the door, they found two computers and over 1,200 DVDs. The door itself backed up the man's defense: the owner had tacked a huge sign on it saying the movies were gratis and for promotional use only. Any money that changed hands for the cases themselves was simply a kind-hearted donation to the store.

Erm, too bad that doesn't fly. Even if the court somehow swallows the "Selling cases" BS, copying copyrighted movies isn't legal, no matter whether you sell them for profit or accept "donations" for the jewel cases you stuff them into. If convicted, then owner of the shop is facing up to five years and prison and a $5,000 fine. Rest safe, Floridians; the illegal copies of Cars 2 and Hangover 2 are now off the streets in your community.

Twenty Injured After Woman Uses Pepper Spray on Black Friday Crowd

A woman shot pepper spray to keep shoppers from merchandise she wanted during a Black Friday sale, and 20 people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:20 p.m. Thursday in a crowded Los Angeles-area Walmart as shoppers hungry for deals were let inside the store.

Police said the suspect shot the pepper spray when the coverings over the items she wanted were removed.

"Somehow she was trying to use it to gain an upper hand," police Lt. Abel Parga told The Associated Press early Friday.

He said she was apparently after some electronics and used the pepper spray to keep other shoppers at bay.

Officials said 20 people suffered minor injuries. Fire department spokesman Shawn Lenske said the injuries to least 10 of them were due to " rapid crowd movement."

Parga said police were still looking for the woman.

The store remained open and those not affected by the pepper spray continued shopping.

Man on Apparent Office Rampage Hurls Office Furniture From U.K. High Rise

BRISTOL – Pedestrians were forced to run for cover and several people were injured when a man began hurling desks, chairs and computers from the tallest building in Bristol, south-west England, in an apparent case of office rage.

The bizarre incident was sparked at about 7.20pm local time Tuesday when fire alarms at the 17-storey Castlemead Tower went off, the Bristol Evening Post reported Thursday.

As the building was evacuated, a man made his way up to the 10th and 11th floors where he apparently ran amok -- trashing office furniture and doors.

He then used a fire extinguisher to smash open a window, and began throwing computers, printers, files and other office equipment out of the broken window.

While most of the objects landed on the building's front entrance canopy, some glass and debris rained down on workers in the street, injuring several people -- including firefighters called to the scene.

"Everyone got outside to the fire assembly point out the front, and then a fire extinguisher came flying out through the window," a worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said.

"Over the next few minutes, a computer, a printer, a desk and a chair came out through the same window of the 10th floor ... Someone's car also got hit by a fire extinguisher."

Police said a 49-year-old man was in custody on suspicion of burglary, adding that he would also be investigated for assault.

Reports suggested that the man might have been a former employee of one of the offices in the building.

Florida woman blames her 'big breasts' for failing sobriety test

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. – A Florida woman facing DUI charges told arresting officers that her "big breasts" were responsible for her failing a sobriety test, according to a police report cited Friday by WTVJ-TV.

Maureen Jane Raymond, from Port St. Lucie, about 110 miles north of Miami, was arrested in Jensen Beach on Jan. 29 after she was noticed traveling at speed and crossing the yellow double line before parking in two spots outside a drug store.

According to the report, a deputy smelled alcohol on the 49-year-old and noticed she had slurred speech, glassy eyes and staggered when she walked.

"When I told her we were going to do some roadside tasks she told me that I needed to understand that she is big-chested and if I asked her to close her eyes and balance she is not going to balance well," the deputy wrote.

"She told me 'big breast you don't balance well.'"

When asked to walk in the straight line, the accused began to dance, the report noted. After again blaming her breasts for being unable to complete the test, the deputy noted in his report that Raymond then "began to take her clothes off to show me her breast and I stopped her."

Taken to the police station for a breath test, Raymond, who WEPC-TV reported was 5-foot-6 and 216lb, was not able to provide a valid breath sample, and was booked into jail. She was released on $750 bond the next day after being charged with driving under the influence.

Sweet revenge: Dentist pulls ALL of ex-boyfriend’s teeth out after getting dumped

Revenge is a dish best served with novocaine.

A dentist in Poland, dumped by her boyfriend, got payback by removing all of her former lover’s teeth — leading his new lady to dump him, too.

Anna Mackowiak could face three years in jail after she agreed to treat her ex-boyfriend, Marek Olszewski, when he asked her to help with a toothache just days after he broke up with her.

“I tried to be professional and detach myself from my emotions,” Mackowiak, 34, told the Daily Mail. “But when I saw him lying there I just thought, ‘What a bastard.’”

I went to grade school with this guy and now he is national news.

An Irvine couple who became upset with a parent volunteer at their son’s elementary school have been arrested and charged with conspiring to frame her by planting drugs in her car and calling police.

Kent and Jill Easter, both 38 and both attorneys, are charged with three felonies. If convicted they could face up to three years in state prison.
Full story and video here:

My favorite quote was from the story in the NY Daily News:
“They’re always so positive and happy, and I just can’t imagine them even doing anything like this,” Pan told KABC-TV.

Jogger targeted by teens turns out to be Kung Fu expert

Two teenagers got more than they bargained for when a Washington state woman they attempted to assault turned out to be an expert in martial arts.

KATU reports that Priscilla Dang was jogging in her Vancouver neighborhood last Friday when she was approached by two teenagers on their bikes.

One pulled in front of her as the other groped her from behind.

Fortunately for Dang she had studied Kung Fu for 18 years at a martial arts school owned by her family. She used the training to teach her attacker some manners.

"I grabbed him and said, 'You need to apologize, and he did,'" said Dang.

Then things escalated when the second teen started swearing at her.

Dang said that something snapped inside her and that is when her Kung Fu background really kicked in as she punched him twice in the face.

"He started coming in for a few, and I was lucky enough to dodge his shots. I came up for another one and I got him good, and I think that upset him," she told the news station.

That is when the second teen pulled out a knife, said Dang, and her instincts kicked in telling her to back off and play it safe.

Two people witnessed the confrontation taking place and called 911. Dang was not hurt and thinks she taught the teenagers a lesson.

"I think they knew they messed with the wrong girl," she said.

The suspects were 16 and 18 years old. The 18-year-old was arrested while the younger suspect was turned over to his parents.

Man steals Ebola patient's phone, gets infected

A THIEF has caught the deadly Ebola virus after stealing a mobile phone from a patient with the disease, an African newspaper has reported.

Uganda's Daily Monitor reports that the 40 year-old crook travelled 3km from his home town to the Kagadi Hospital in the Kibaale district, and crept into the isolation ward in the dead of night.

He then made off with a patient's phone worth 60,000 Ugandan Shillings ($23).

The patient had the deadly Ebola fever, but before he died he managed to tell police of the theft.

Officers tracked down a man who had started using the phone, who then confessed to the crime.

The man claimed he had visited the ward to "comfort" patients, though he didn't know any of them in person, district police commander John Ojokuna Elatu told the Sunday Monitor.

Soon afterwards he started showing signs of the disease.

Kibaale District Health Officer, Dr Dan Kyamanywa, said: “The suspect is admitted at Kagadi Hospital with clinical signs of Ebola. He is receiving medication.”

Ebola spreads through a highly contagious virus and is feared for its fast onset of haemorrhaggic symptoms. More than half those who catch the disease die from it, and there is no known cure

Western Uganda has been the centre of an Ebola outbreak in recent months, which killed a 3-month-old child and infected another 15 who attended his funeral.

Ugandan president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has warned Ugandans to avoid physical contact, including kisses and handshakes.

waitress handed own stolen I.D. while serving drinks

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A waitress in Lakewood didn’t have any trouble at all identifying trouble while serving a customer.

She says she was handed her own stolen I.D.

Brianna Priddy’s wallet was taken last month.

During a shift at Applebee’s, Brianna was taking drink orders when the customer handed over a fake I.D. which just happened to be Brianna’s driver’s license.

The server pretended nothing was wrong, but went to the back and immediately called police.

“I kept ‘em around, got ‘em some water. Had ‘em order appetizers,” she says. “I don’t know how I kept it cool. I wanted to jump across the table and go at her!”

The suspect had apparently used the I.D. to write bad checks.

Police say she was also selling drugs, which puts her in even more trouble.

The woman faces identity theft charges.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but ran across a couple items - not so much for what they did but how they got caught:

Some men are born great, others have greatness thrust upon them. Levi Charles Reardon is neither of those men. Reardon, who was wanted for theft and forgery in Cascade County, Montana, was perusing Facebook when he stumbled upon his own wanted poster on the local Crime Stoppers page. He then decided the best course of action would be to “like” his own wanted poster, chuckle to himself (speculation), and keep scrolling.

It seems Reardon was a suspect in a recent case involving a stolen wallet and personal checks. Again showing his intelligent side, Reardon attempted to cash four of the stolen checks after making them out in his own name. He had spoken previously with an officer regarding the theft after having been notified that checks made out in his name had been reported as fraudulent.

28-year-old Roger Ray Ireland of Baltimore, Md., was arrested one day after leaving a taunt on the official Anne Arundel county police department Facebook page — the latest criminal suspect tripped up by stupid use of social media. Every Wednesday, the police department posts a picture of a wanted suspect and asks the community to tag friends and family of the person in the photo to help generate more tips about the suspect. According to the Baltimore Sun, the image of Ireland was posted for an outstanding warrant for violating probation.

Of course, Ireland’s own comments likely brought additional attention to the post within his own Facebook feed and his group of friends. By Thursday, the police department was supplied with a multitude of tips regarding Ireland’s location. The police were able to use the tips to locate Ireland and pull his car over in South Baltimore. Ireland was taken into custody and the police department was quick to gloat about the arrest on the official Facebook page.

After posting a photo of herself on Facebook in a recently acquired dress, it’s unlikely that 27-year-old Danielle Saxton thought it would lead to her arrest soon after. Detailed by the owners of Mortie’s Boutique in West Frankfort, Illinois, store security cameras captured a woman stealing a very distinct, multicolored, leopard-print dress, along with two shirts, a pair of sunglasses, and a necklace. Soon after the theft, the owners posted about the incident on the company’s official Facebook page asking the public to keep an eye out for the stolen goods.

After the authorities were supplied with both the security footage of the theft as well as the Facebook photos that Saxton posted, police immediately arrested Saxton for a theft that totaled up to less than $300. In addition, Saxton is being held on outstanding warrant related to a previous drug charge.

Hitchhiking Robot, Safe in Several Countries, Meets Its End in Philadelphia

After an international adventure that included spending a week with a heavy metal band, cruising through the canals of Amsterdam and participating in a wave at a Boston Red Sox game, a hitchhiking robot met a brutal demise in a Philadelphia alley on Saturday. It was 1 year old.

With yellow boots, blue limbs and “San Francisco or Bust” written around its chin, the robot, a.k.a. hitchBOT, was left by its creators near a highway in Salem, Mass., on July 17, hoping the kindness of strangers would see it safely to its West Coast destination

I don't have any links, and these are fairly old stories that a family friend once told me a couple of years ago (maybe about 5 now), so apologies for the lack of details/explanations on each......

He said that both were local (Sacramento area) incidents he heard about on the news. And he seemed like a reputable guy when it came to such stories, so I did believe him when he told me about these, so I assume they're true.

I hope you enjoy the laughs...

One that he told me about involved a guy who tried to rob a bank and steal the ATM machine (may have been a couple of guys - I don't quite remember but if I had to take a guess right now, I'd say with slightly more certainty that it was a solo act). All went as planned, he (or they) got the ATM machine out of the bank and out to the vehicle. But there was one problem. The vehicle was a small car and, as a result, the ATM machine did not fit inside. BUSTED!!!!

Another one he told me was at a fast food location (either McDonalds or Taco Bell if I remember correctly but, again, I don't quite remember). Two guys went in to rob the location and while they were doing their deeds, another worker realized that the two idiots had left their vehicle running so, being the smart guy that he was, he ran out, jumped in, and drove their vehicle a couple of blocks down, and left it on the side of a dirt road (or something like that). Two dudes run out with the cash, realize their vehicle's missing, dropped everything, and started to run. They, unfortunately, ran a lot slower than the cops could drive. BUSTED!!!!
