figured there should be a thread for discussion on DMC and his time at the USA mini camp this week.

EDIT: Here is a very good 15 minute interview from after practice today.

Kings DeMarcus Cousins declined to go into detail about contract, but did say he wants to stay with Kings & sees himself as face of franchise

James Ham ‏@James_Ham
When asked if Cousins wants to be a Sacramento Kings long term: "I do want to be a King, I do."

James Ham ‏@James_Ham
"I'm super excited about where this franchise is headed and I'm glad to be a part of it." -DeMarcus Cousins on the Sacramento Kings

Good mini-camp for DeMarcus + contract extension would be a lot of positive momentum going into the season for Cuz. Best to just give him that extension now.

In other news, I heart DeMarcus.

Cousins said Pete D'Alessandro has asked for his input on free agents. Never happened under previous management

This intrigues me greatly. I wonder if he had an impact on whether we matched Reke or not?

yea i wonder if he was any influence in them grabbing a distributor like Vasquez thats gonna get Cuz a lot of easy buckets.

i also notice his agent is keeping him very tight lipped on the contract extension talk, as you can tell by the way he deflects every question about it

i really hope we extend him now...get it out of the way...have a press conference and sort of re-introduce him as the face of the franchise...i think it will give him even more confidence and make him see there is a change and he has to be more of a leader...

Am I the only one who's a little turned off by the Twitter craze? Like, a couple of updates here and there, but an update every few minutes? Totally unnecessary.

No, it was his agent. That was made explicit in some stories about it back before the draft. Demarcus said as much.
If the quote you are referring to was the one by Jason Jones (also found in all the articles), it was.. "The smile on his face and the rolling of his eyes showed how hard it is for Cousins to play the silent role. But he has to. His agent, Dan Fegan, has instructed Cousins not to speak on anything relating to the Kings team, management or ownership."

As we see from this interview Cousins talked about management, ownership and the team. If the guy wants to talk, he talks.

To my mind, the most important development of the offseason is going to be Cousins' performance on Team USA. This is going to be a new opportunity for Cousins to reinvent himself, and an opportunity for management to evaluate him up close and personal. Hopefully, he'll dominate down low and act like a mature human being.

The deadline for the team to offer (and Cousins to sign) an extension coincides with the start of the regular season and the end of training camp/preseason. I'm guessing that D'Allesandro, Vivek and Malone are wanting to see DeMarcus buy in to their approach during that time and to see how he practices and whether he has taken to heart their message of him being a team leader. And if he has (and I'm guessing that will be the case) then they will show their commitment to him with a max or near max extension.

Which only makes sense. Of course you want to lock the big fella up but you also want at least a few weeks to work with him and get a hands on experience to make certain that he's really the guy that you are going to hitch your wagon to. Talent wise it's a no brainer but with DeMarcus talent has never been the question.

I DO think that with a stable front office, much improved coaching and a clear signal that the whole organization is behind him that we'll see a massive improvement from Big Cuz. At least I very much hope so.

It is intriguing. Probably something we'll never know.

It makes sense that they evaluate him in stages. It would be nice if their up-close experience is unequivocally good before the season starts. If they see some things that are worrisome in the preaseason, they might not pull the trigger at the beginning of the regular season. They may want to see what happens in the first half of the regular season. There's nothing like the pressure of a seven game losing streak to find out what he's like during a seven game losing streak.

So whats your point? What Bricky said was true. The fact that he decided to talk about some of the things is either his decision, or his agents. Whats the difference, he's still not talking about the extension.

Here's a brief interview with both Calapari and Wall about Cousins.

My point is exactly what I said. I doubt it's his agent keeping him tight lipped. If he wants to talk he talks, he has always been this way and I would bet he continues to be this way. He demonstrated that by going against what his agent said awhile ago. Was I really not clear?

Hey, your welcome to believe whatever you want to believe. I happen to believe he's following his agents orders when it comes to the extension. I'm basing what I believe on what was said by Cousins and his agent. Your believing what you feel about Cousins. Accepted! I'm just not sure what greater point your trying to make. I mean, who cares?

Why do you think there is a greater point than what I clearly said? All I said was I don't think it was Cousins agent who was keeping him tight lipped. Then demonstrated how he was discussing the so called things his agent told him not to talk about in order to give a basis to my assumption.

Why are you responding to this line of thought if you clearly don't care? And why question who cares or not? It's a simple conversation here but for some reason you felt the need to jump in and ask for clarification on something you don't deem important. Why?

Edit: Just look at the quotes. He says he isn't worried about the contract extension. He answered the question and was getting annoyed when pressed on the issue so started to say USA was all he cared about then. He wasn't even being very "tight lipped" in the first place.

Are you still sick? You should probably be the one relaxing. I am more than happy to continue this rather uncharacteristic conversation between us if it's something you feel the need to get out of your system though. Hope you are feeling better.
