Could the Kings go back to KC?

I'm not sure. But if we get a new Arena, let's hope it looks something like this (get ready to drool)

Yes. I think that KC is first in line to get the Kings if the Kings have nowhere to play in sacramento.

By the way, while the interior of that arena looks nice, the outside of the building is seriously ugly IMHO.

Yeah, I've long thought KC, not Vegas was the biggest threat to the Kings. Built themselves a great arna, are a proven major league market in other sports, and have a hsitory wiht the team.

Nice pictures BTW.

P.S. Looks like in the interior shot there its set up for hockey? do they have a minor league team? Or is it just a dual-purpose come hither arena?

I know the mayor said a while back that they would love to have the Kings back and are sorry they ever let them go. Said Sacramento should take heed and do what they can to keep the Kings, so we won't be sorry like them.

A few more.

I love the way it looks, but then again it blends in very well to the city skyline. I don't think this style would fit in to CalExpo

Anyone else notice the old school pics of former Kings players on the walls?

I always said KC would be the front-runner. They built a brand new arena even though there is no pro hockey or basketball team there. They don't even have a college hoop team playing there, do they???

Thinking ahead. Proactive. I love it. They'll get both hockey and hoops eventually. Arena football, too.

BTW, what the hell do they use that arena for? Concerts and what else?

I'm sure David Stern knows about the Sprint Center. Sacramento should if they don't already.

Interior: Very nice.

Exterior: Irish Crystal Cereal Bowl. Quick, someone photoshop a giant spoon onto the thing!

My thinking is that KC doesn't have an NHL or an NBA team not because of the venue, but more because of some demographic problem with KC. I have zero idea what that issue could be (median age? median income? number of 18-34 year olds within 40 miles of the arena? I have no idea).

Of all the potential destinations, I still think Anaheim makes most sense, but San Diego is catching up with a vengeance. And Las Vegas will get a team.

How quickly we forget that the first team to move to Vegas will probably get the first 5 years rent-free, and that AEG (which will be ready in 2010, not 2011 as I previously said; in 2010, I figure we'll still be arguing about where to build Sacramento's NBA arena, and at some point, the Maloofs will run out of patience) is about 3 miles from what is a much, much larger business for the Maloofs -- the Palms.

I forgot exactly what the numbers are, but that new development they're talking about in Vegas is worth a total of something like $45 billion. With a B. They were talking about that after the Kings-Lakers debacle. An extremely nice $600 million arena sort of gets lost in a $45 billion development, and an NBA franchise gets even more so. Hard to accept, but $200 million to buy a franchise and let them play in Vegas for 5 years, for free, actually amounts to chump change in this context.

I'm telling you, it's far closer than you all seem to be guessing so far.

Doesnt matter about the economics anymore. There were already concerns about gambling. Then the all star game happened and was a disaster. Then the Donaghy scandal happened. The NBA just won't approve. Not while Stern is still playing damage control from all the fallout. Stern is all about cleaning up the NBA's image and Las Vegas is the last way to do that.

KC is going to get a hockey team. It's only a matter of time. And they can try to attract multiple teams. The Sonics are going to OKC but the Hornets (who I think will leave NO because their sales will be terrible and George Shinn is a flake) and the Kings will listen. I think a KC sales pitch would work best on a guy like Shinn who would leave the moment he heard free rent. He's as cheap as an owner can get.

Greetings from KC, Kings have been my favorite team for quite awhile now. Now it would be awesome to have them back but I wouldnt really want to break the hearts from the fans in Sacramento.

Now to the arena deal here in Kansas City. The arena is owned by the city but is ran by AEG who has ownership in the building. When the Pittsburgh Penguins were looking to relocate before they got the new arena, the deal was free rent plus the team got 50% ownership/managing rights with AEG on all events in the building plus they get to keep revenue off of their own games. So basically its their arena plus they get 50% of any other event in the building. And AEG can get any concert into building. So its a pretty good deal. I would assume the deal would basically be the same for Las Vegas since the new arena is being ran and built by AEG with whatever hotel/casino.
