Congratulations, Grant High School!

I usually don't follow the local high school football scene, but I just want to congratulate the Grant High School Pacers, for beating the Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits, 25-20, to win the Sacramento-area's first-ever statewide high school football championship! :)

There will be a parade on Tuesday! The SacBee said that it will begin at Del Paso Heights School and make its way to downtown!

Once again, WTG, Pacers!!! :D

I thought they didn't have state wide championships and that they just had CIF section championships. Either way congratulations to them lbp is a football power house

They played the number one ranked team in the state for the state championship and won.

Apparently it was done from 1917 to 1927 and then not again until this year.

Long Beach Poly had won one in 1919 and were very heavy favorites. A lot of people didn't think Grant should be in the game despite their 13-0 record.

This is wonderful for Grant HS and for the Del Paso neighborhood, which is one of the poorest in Sacramento. It was a great game and they showed showed confidence, grit and heart.

WTG Grant High!!! :D

I wondered about that too. They definitely didn't have state championships when I was in HS or when I last lived in CA. Living in SoCal many of those teams would just lay claim to the "State Championship" and write off NorCal entirely. I had to remind a few people that played on some of those teams that unless they played a NorCal team they didn't win a "state championship". Nice to see one is finally in place.

Big parade in Sacramento today. Will go from Grant High to downtown Sacramento. It would be fun to go, if I wasn't working.

I've been snowed in for 6 of the last 7 work days. I wish I could go to work.

You should get a parade for passing the 8,000 post mark :)

Forced to stay home isn't much fun. Hope you're dug out soon.

8,000 posts without ever saying anything notable. I should get a monument, too. ;)

It's a good adjustment. "State championship" carries a weight with it that "CIF Championship" just can't match.

I agree and think it is wonderful. Even more wonderful that NorCal won the first one since it came back. :)
