Congrats Monarchs!! We get Game One!

Congrats, Monarchs! That was an exciting, well-fought and -played game on both sides. I look forward to the game tomorrow, and hope it's just as exciting, just with a different outcome :)

I'm really glad that we're playing you guys in this series - I prefer seeing two well-matched teams that I have a lot of respect for doing a great job out there, rather than the cocky obnoxious Sparks. Bleh. If you lose to the Sparks, you absolutely hate it, but it's OK if it's the Monarchs that win. Well, to a point, of course!

I hope to see some Monarchs fans at the game in Seattle tomorrow. May the Best Team Win!

-Kat

PS, the play-by-play guy David Locke for the game last night on Oxygen is the Storm's regular radio play-by-play announcer. What did you guys think of him? Since I'm biased, I was wondering if y'all thought he was pretty even-handed.

Kat, first of all, welcome to the board! It's nice to have you here. I never mind a rivalry as long as it's based on mutual respect.

Were you at the game? There was a large (and loud) Seattle contingent there and everyone in that group, with one obvious exception, seemed to be enjoying themselves. Hopefully you were treated well. I wish I was making the trip for the Battle In Seattle tomorrow, but I'll have to cheer from afar.

I haven't watched the Oxygen broadcast yet so I don't have an opinion on David Locke. I might watch it this afternoon, or I might go back and watch Game 1 or 3 of the LA series. I do hate Ann Meyers but it would be worth putting up with to watch us BEAT LA again.

David Locke stopped by the table as some of us were talking to Koz and Krista after the game, he said he would be very surprised if Monarchs fans thought he was anything but even handed in his broadcast. I did watch a little bit of the broadcast last night (I'll admit, it was only about the last 15 seconds of the overtime period ;)) And thought he was pretty cool and I like folks who can get into the game emotionally and I thought he did a great job of capturing the intensity of that game.

He said he was pumping up LJ and then equally pumped up Tangela when she felt the need to rise up in crunch time. He also had some interesting insights to the game from his vantage point. He felt the key play that notched the game in the M's column was Kara Lawson's freak flip shot with the shot clock winding down late in the 2nd half.

David's a homer in the good sense, he'll tell it like it is. I respect folks who do that for their home teams and I've enjoyed listening to him when I tune in on the audio pass for Storm games, he also makes guest appearances on the Monarchs weekly talk show. I gave up on Anne Meyers years ago and kicked it up a notch last year when she would not stop referring to Lisa Leslie as the "reigning MVP" and then would not admit that she was the one perpetuating the falsehood that Lisa was the league MVP. I also noticed that she never had an occasion, even when she did games involving the Storm, to refer to LJ as the "reigning MVP". Even when we've loaned Krista Blunk our color commentator out to national broadcasts, she has never been overly homerish about anything.

BTW...welcome to the Monarchs board KitKat...
