Comcast battling DISH over contract renewal

I will NOT be a happy camper if this happens. Of course, it's not just DISH. The same thing happens with Directv when their contracts come up for renewal. All I know is they'd better not take away my Kings!!!!!

Direct TV had something similar a few years back with Viacom(owns Comedy Central, Spike, MTV, Nickeloden, and more). It got really ugly. On the channel, direct tv had their CEO in a robe at his home telling viewers that Viacom was being greedy.. they wanted millions more for their networks and shows. Then Viacom had a banner going across saying Direct TV was being cheap.. and it would only increase bills by the pennies.. it was ugly.. It was resolved in less than a few weeks though.

I think the same thing will happen here.
 
Both sides are greedy. The only thing I care about is being able to watch my Kings. ;)
 
Just seems that Direct always gets into these spats. I understand trying to keep their prices down but they gotta provide good content too. I have U-Verse and I love it. And I haven't seen any such squabbling with them and their content providers. But to each his own. Dish is also Squabbling with CBS, and they have Football and College B-Ball !

At worst you might miss a couple games. That's what happened with the Viacom/DirecTv thing. Probably missed a week or two of shows.
 
Dish is pissing me off!!!

They already dropped a number of Turner channels in Oct and there's rumors of them dropping TBS/TNT in the coming weeks, which would force me to change carriers as that's NCAA/NBA basketball being dropped.

Dropping CSN would likely screw over a million basketball fans in NorCal as Kings fan in Sac can't watch their team and down here in the Bay Area, Warriors games will be cut off from fans too.

It's always something with these satellite companies, whether Dish or Direct TV. On the bright side, now's the time to call and threaten to change carriers and haggle down your monthly payment. Should be able to cut your bill in half.

As of this afternoon, the Turner channels are back. :D

It's not all the fault of the satellite companies. The networks are trying to make as much money as they can, and make satellite companies carry crap stations (that are then included in our subscription packages) in addition to the ones people really want. As I said above, all concerned are a bunch of greedy bastards.
 
I'm hostage to DISH, sorta. But more and more people are going without any cable/satellite coverage at all, relying on AppleTV/Amazon Prime/Hulu/Netflix etc for their content, along with an over the air HD antenna. I don't want to go that way but damn, the DISH bill is like $140/mo and I don't even have a lot of premium channel subscriptions.

I don't want to go that way because you lose sports programming... but they may force me to it. I'll be ballistic if I can't watch the Kings on TV.

Is there someplace I can stream kings video live over the internet if DISH loses the Comcast deal for a while?

You can subscribe to NBA League Pass Digital (for streaming online & mobile devices) for about $150.00 season. I'm thinking I'll sign up after Christmas.

I am also a Dish hostage. I'm in the first year of the two year agreement. I have already made the call to let Dish know I don't want to lose the Kings programing.

I suppose League Pass may be in my future:(

League Pass might black the Kings games out for you since you live in the area
 
I can't wait until we get to the era where there aren't any more cable/satellite providers and we can just pick our channels al la carte. I'm paying around $110 a month for DirectTV and all I really watch are Kings and A's games. My kids watch a lot of Disney stuff but they can easily watch that on Netflix and iTunes content.

This is my world, and it's not a bad one to live in. Notre Dame is on NBC, so I get my college football fix, and most of the NFL games are OTA as well, except for Thursday/Monday nights. It's actually refreshing not having to listen/watch the goofballs on ESPN. The only thing I'm worried about right now is how March Madness is going to shake out for me, but I think I'll have a good solution by then.

Paying for a whole year of Amazon Prime is cheaper than a month of DISH. Something to think about. Of course, I'm in Denver, so I don't have to worry about Kings games being blacked out.

Same here. I have already called Dish Network about losing CSNCA. I just renewed my 2 year contract with Dish so I am stuck with them. I also have NBA League Pass and they black out the Kings and the Warriors games, Now if this really happens I will have to call NBA League Pass and let them know that I am no longer able to receive local broadcasting of the games.

Let's just hope they straighten things out before we need to face missing Kings games.

Bit off topic but can someone explain to me why NBA League Pass for American viewers has "blackouts", is it to force you to watch there channel for ratings? I don't get why it's not like international where if you pay $250 (or even slightly more) a season that you can watch every single game. Just does not make sense to me, in Australia the national game is AFL (Australian Football) and if you buy the AFL channel you can watch every single game with no "blackouts".
 
Blackouts occur because of regional coverage for teams. It's antiquated but still the "law" of the NBA. It's meant to ensure that local coverage of games gets adequate viewership.

I don't know for certain, but that wouldn't make much sense to me, if you're out of market. But in-market blackouts would still exist - online League Pass has no way of knowing who is a DISH customer and suddenly does not have access to the games. So I don't think online League Pass blackouts should change.
 
I have the NBA League Pass (Digital) and live in the local broadcasting area, all Kings games are blacked out. The League Pass uses your IP address to determine if your area is blacked out or not. Now you can still watch Kings games but 3 days AFTER it was telecast, nationally televised games will be avail 3 hours after the game has ended.

Really sucks for someone who has cut the cable, but hey we just have to roll with the punches!
 
I can't imagine that not changing before too long. With as many people cutting cable as there have been, and with that number steadily growing, it's only a matter of time before the NBA is forced to catch up with the times, and revise their business model.
 
As a Dish Customer, i just want to say, Dish sucks...


The game is literally on a different "alternate" CSN channel every night, i've had problems with the HD telecast not starting until mid 2nd quarter sometimes, and overall it's just crap, tons more problems outside of the problems with Kings games.

Oh and they have these contract disputes ALL THE TIME
 
Comcast should really ask a lot from Dish in this new deal such as asking them to go FULL TIME HD!!! Directv and Comcast all offer the sports channels in FULL TIME HD except for DISH!!!
