[NCAAF] College football 2025 open thread

I don't really follow college football, but two things seem to be true, and they are a bit at odds with each other.

1) Everybody really, really, really, REALLY hates Lane Kiffin. Like, he may be the single most-despised person in sports. And it sounds like he's earned it.
2) Everybody is willing to drop their pants to hire Lane Kiffin.

Like, is this dude really John Wooden crossed with Walter Alston with the DNA of several of the Avengers sprinkled in? I don't get it.

I think it was more the case of a conference rival deciding to poach an on-the-rise program's success (as well as Florida boosters who decided they should get in on the mix but they seemed to have cooled off quickly) and LSU boosters flexing their weight over a poorer competitor school. The governor of Louisiana personally inserted himself into the coaching search even. I can't imagine the 3 current B1G openings Penn State, UCLA or Mich State would have even considered him.

He's also a walking Title IX case waiting to happen but maybe that is why LSU didn't force the mitigation clause figuring they'd find grounds for cause down the road.

although apparently there are rumors going around that Mich St was only open (and is now closed) because Matt Ishbia donated 400m contingent on being able to name the coach himself (Pat Fitzgerald, the former Northwestern Head Coach who was last seen coaching a Jesuit high school outside of Chicago).

😲

Kiffin decision sucks for sure but there is zero loyalty in college football amongst coaches and players. That is the state of the game now. It’s the Wild, Wild West. Can’t wait til LSU goes to Ole Miss next year.

Don’t really care that he left, it’s when/how he left. NCAA needs to change their calendars so coaching changes only happen after the end of the season.

Maybe they need to make a distinction between students/scholarship athletes and NIL. Students have to follow school calendar, NIL get no degrees just money to pay their own way but can transfer as mercs.

Penn State rather publicly made BYU coach Kalani Sitake their top target yesterday after missing out on lord knows how many other choices the past 2 months. Rumors are Jimmy Sexton blackballed them from his client list after firing James Franklin. Anyhow, BYU with a big assist from Crumbl Cookies CEO Jason McGowan stepped up to match and retain their coach.

Score one for alumni coaches still mattering to some. But talk about egg all over PSU's face on this massive whiff.

What's your favorite college football fight song, entrance song, rally song? Wisconsin started this one 1998 end of 3rd Q, beginning 4th Q. All-time classic continuing until now at Madison home stadium, 80,000 going "jumping crazy!!"

My son's school uses Michigan's The Victors so I guess I'm slightly partial to that these days, as I play it over the PA for every touchdown.

I play Jump Around every game too. Welcome to the Jungle is a good hype song coming into a period you need a big stop.

I don't even know Arizona or BU's songs lol.
