Coach Paul Westphal

I create the thread based on the player - on in this case coach - that I think deserved it for the game of the same night. You chose to duplicate something I've been doing for a very long time. It's not about stealing thunder or anything else. I wouldn't bump any old thread over this. Sorry if your feathers are ruffled.

Oh I'm fine. Sorry I took the attention away from you. I won't make any more theads that way you won't have to remake them.

Back to the topic. I'm lovin coachie, he has them playing well..

I really wanted us to hire Tom Thibodeau, but I have to admit Westphal has the team playing well. I do not and will not agree with some of his rotations and playing time, but he is getting the most out of the players he decides to play. Keep it the good work.

Yeah i think if he wouldn't have started Mayes and Mason we might have another win. Starting Mason is retarded, although starting Mayes may have atleast sparked Hawes.

If you look at what happened, starting Mason may have been at the direction of Petrie to give him one last look before waiving him and grabbing Udoka.

I just don't understand why you would start the guy, see him not produce so not put him back in, and then start him again, and then waive him. Why not try him in a role player spot?

Because he's not that good. They tried him and it didn't work. That's just a guess.

Now, back to Westphal maybe?

:)

2k10 westphal? i kind of see that guy in balls of fury.. that feng guy.. christopher walkens char. only with gray hair...

could westphal being able to coach greats like barkley, johnson, payton and such be one of the reasons why the players are so motivated and are buying into his system...

I really like how Westphal has played around so much with different lineups, particularly with starting. (okay well with recent injury's sometimes you dont have a choice)

I also suppose that with a young team with no all stars you have less risk of pissing off your key players.

But honestly - what is so "nba politically incorrect" with starting a lesser player that ends up with 10 min vs a large handful of key players coming off the bench that end up with 30+ min? Why not let the numbers dictate the lineup vs the salaries?

Possible, but not sure about that just becasue of Westphal's history with Mason and rather ridiculously rosy quotes about his impact and whatnot. back in preseason he was touting him as the linchpin to our defense and I was just...???

I think this may have been more about Coach remembering a player from his past the way he used to be rather than the way he is today. Finally it got too bad and too obvious and was not working, and once Coach was convinced that Mason didn't have much left, that removed the obstacle to Petrie making the move. An experiment to be sure, but get the feeling it may have been an experiment at Westphal's behest rather than Geoff's.
