Hall of Famer
With another impressive win at home Kings improved to 7-10 for the season and 7-3 at home. In a 5 game home stand - Kings are 3-1 with 3 wins over teams that will make playoffs this season (Spurs, Rockets and Jazz) and with Clippers coming up - there is more to come. On the other hand - Kings are the only NBA team who didn't win on the road and we will get plenty opportunities to change that in a near future because after the Clippers game - we will play 6/7 games on the road in 11 days including a 5 game East Coast road trip. Also - Kings are unbeaten in December - 2-0.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Traditions are important regardless of whether they are good or bad. Kings tradition is that at some point there have to be at least 2 starters with an injury at the same time for at least a month of the season. And since Bibby's injury wasn't a handicap enough - Kevin will be out for a while and it sucks. He has been playing well for the most part of this season and this is a though pill to swallow. This is also the time where someone else will get the opportunity to step up and contribute more and I hope that it will be Douby because everyone else on that team that can play this position is "formed" player for better or worse.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
What if basketball gods exist ? Just follow me on this one please. If that is true - they must really hate the Kings because we have been exposed to cruelties of worst kind. We have been filled up with hope and then bitterly disappointed over and over again. What if they decided to "make it up" if that can ever be possible. What if their plan for us to start over, to rebuild. So from their point of view everything started great with 3 games road trip, Bibby's injury, end of sellout streak and Ron's suspension. Then Ron came back and we improved so Kevin is inured now to offset our improved play. What if everything is pointing in one direction - rebuild and start over and we disregard it. What if those gods get so upset to say - You know what - we had enough. We will stop torturing the Knicks and just do it to Kings instead.
What if everything is opposite to this little "theory" of mine ? Either way - to comes down to the same thing - we need to stop wasting time.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of wasting time - that is what our efforts to get in the playoffs will end up being. We won't make it. We wouldn't even with a healthy squad which Kings never had anyways. We are good at home and that is keeping us in the no man's land. We are yet to be competitive on the road. After the ASB when good teams start thinking about positioning and when the rotations shorten - that home record won't be that great anymore. We will win some road games eventually but to be 8th in the west and earn the privilege to be abused in the 1st round - one has to be above .500 and that won't be us.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watching Derron Williams the other night I caught myself thinking - man, it would be nice if we had a player like that on our roster to pair up with Kevin. I thought the same for Paul, Durrant etc... There is pretty much only one way to get those because no one sane would give them up once they have them. Look at Jazz now. They were bad for couple seasons and now they are good again and they would be great if Okur would play somewhere else. We seam to be pretty much the only franchise that is unable to start over and I don't get it - why ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings bench did great the other night contributing 35 points to the win and making the absence of Kevin Martin - non existent. Lead by Mr. Sexy - the bench turned the game around in the 4th. If we were healthy - we would have a decent 2nd unit without ever needing to use the Tinman or the Lion. Since Kevin is out - the bench will lose depth and the production. Unless we put Douby to start the bench might lose the relevance in the next weeks especially considering the rotation which has been tighten up by coach T.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kings got yet another scalp of a good team - Jazz - with an offensive explosion in the 4th quarter scoring 43 points. 7 players scored in double figures, we rebounded well too. Only thing that remains a problem is the assist/turnover ration which is stuck around 1 for most nights. We also received generous contributions by Memo and the 3 stooges.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

TDM went to Brewer and any time it goes o an opponents starter we are in good shape

LW-VC went to Memo who kept us in the game early and late and he also gave us all the stops we needed down the strech

RA&1 award went to Collins who spent 9 minutes of the game making instruction video called "Basketball by Dummies"

SAR-Methuselah award went to KT for his 3 minutes of nothing

WTF moment(s) of the game.

Substitution bringing KT in the game which I see as unnecessary and unprovoked act of violence towards the patience of an average Kings fan. And while it lasted only 3 minutes it had long lasting effects.

King Memo fouls with 2 seconds to go being down 8. Even Muss can't draw a 10 pt play especially since there were no timeouts left. Just brilliant !
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Clippers are next and they suck big time these days. They lost 7 in a row and 9 of last 10 games. Just bad. We need to adjust some to the fact that Kevin won't be around but we should be fine. Maybe - this time around we can move the ball better and play more like a team. We won't need more than 90 points to win this game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kevin - get well soon
Ron - no need to shoot it 30 times tonight
Beno - get some assists man
Brad - don't get ejected tonight
Mikki - perfect person to torch the Clippers

Salmons - stay sexy
Cisco - bad, good, bad, good = Cisco
Hawes - more PT
Douby - hope he starts
Justin - needs to play
rest - garbage
Coach T - keep it up
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Without Brand and Cassell - Clips suck big time. They can't score enough to win games. Undercover Caveman (due to new hair style) will still hurt us but it shouldn't be enough. Mobley might have a good hame just because. Other than that it might be a TDM festival. For the TDM - I can't decide between Dickau and Thorton. LW-VC should go to Tim Thomas. Rest as needed. Kings win this one.

Hello, It's my first post here, so bare with me.

I'm from Slovenia and I'm watching the games after they get posted on torrents and such, since our sports channel doesn't broadcast Sacramento games.

I've seen a few times now, that some of you are complaining about the number of Beno's assists. My estimation is that if other guys would hit their open shots, when Beno get's them the ball, he would have at least 10 assists per game. I bet that all of you watch the games and see that often it is that his pass is on the money, but isn't converted. My perception of good passer isn't the number of assists, but if the team is sharing the ball. Having a PG that always wants that every pass he makes is an assist isn't very productive. If everybody shares the ball the number of assists will rise and that is the main goal.

Go Kongs.

I'm new to reading these posts... too bad, because I missed alot. These are great!

I know what the TDM award is.

What is the LW-VC?

And the RA&1? (Rick Adelman and 1??)

Thank you!!

Welcome to Kingsfans.com!

We may criticize Beno but we're pretty glad we have him so don't think that we don't like him.

:)

So does anyone know what the "RA&1" is for?

Rafer Alston AND-1 award is given to a member of the opposing team who plays the same level of crappiness as Rafer Alston. Missing open shots, becoming invisible for long stretches, having the street ball moves but no actual game, i.e. all symptoms of Rafer Alston.

I'm not certain what the "TDM" award is, either. Perhaps a glossary is needed for such terms. :D

Tony Delk Memorial Award is given to an opposing player who lights up the Kings, usually an unknown scrub of which most general NBA fans would not even know their name (until they light us up). Delk had scored 53 pts against us in what seemed like eons ago (but actually 6 years ago), and is named in honor of him. Memorable TDM award winners include Joel Pryzbilla and others.

I love Beno because he's all about fundamentals; he just makes the offense steady and flow, running it like a well-oiled machine; there is a stark contrast when he's in the game and making things happen rather than when some of our one-on-one players want to go with a head full of steam shooting individually or forcing their way to the basket. It's clear he's been well-coached, but a lot of it I believe it's latent and he's always had that polish in his game ever since he was drafted. As for the potential 10 assists part, we do have a solid offense that averages over 100 pts a game, and almost every PG in the league gets gipped off of assists because a guy can't hit their open shot; I don't think that's much of an excuse. I think Beno's more of a 5 assist guy at his peak, to be honest; he doesn't have that blazing first step or athleticism to physically impose his will against other players, and he's more natural just passing within the flow, making cuts, hitting open shots and simply just playing within the offense. He's not a ball hog by any means meaning that he won't rack up the assists like a dominant ball-controller such as Jason Kidd. He plays like a very fundamental point guard, however, but that really stops him from being a truly excellent passer, in a way. And that's the way our team would probably prefer it because we have so many individual swingmen (Kevin Martin, John Salmons, Franky Garcia) who could create for themselves anyway--maybe explaining why we're last in assists in the league. Beno merely thrives by blending in and making the offense flow.

Great. Thanks!

Except doesn't Rafer Alston always have big games against us?

But, to get the TDM doesn't it have to be a former Kings player who played like crap for us and now comes back and has a career game or kills us at the wrong time?

Like Damon Jones?

Hmmm... I see Piksi gave Brewer the TDM.

So is there an award for a former end-of-the-bench failure that thinks they're an all-star when they come back and play against us?

The TDM award was originally for former Kings players but it's now expanded to include anyone who is pretty much 16th round or worse fantasy material UNTIL they step on the court against the Kings.

Whichever, I hate when that happens!

I see. My bet is on Dan Dickau earning this award tonight.

I'll probably have to watch the re-broadcast on CSN. I have to meet friends for a holiday dinner out tonight. Darn holidays! ;)

A Glossary Is Badly Needed, Indeed!

I'm not certain what the "TDM" award is, either. Perhaps a GLOSSARY is needed for such terms. :D

(emphasis mine)

Sorry for the shouting, but, really, a glossary is needed for Piksi's unusual and hard-to-remember terms so that time can be saved for the guaranteed more posts on this same 'ol subject.

I'm too lazy to do it right now, but one of these days maybe we could put a stickied thread up for misc stuff like this....

any yet most of the members have no problems

Chris Caveman will probably get 30pts and 20 rebs tonight, more than likely, unless Brad is in a hunting mood. Should be interesting to see how much Spencer plays, too. He is quite smaller, size-wise compared to Caveman, so it will be a good learning experience for him.

Reasonable request. I'll see what I can do...
