Christie’s Kings

These Fox vs. Monk debates seem ridiculous to me. As much as I like Derozan, it seems like he’s the odd man out.

Not saying this is possible, but if we were to somehow replace Derozan with a similarly good wing, I think that solves the problem.

Monk is not just great in the pick and roll, but his energy and hustle is big for this team. I don’t think trading him is a good idea at all, especially with his contract.

The problem has always been on the wing. Derozan is an awesome player, but we still have a massive hole at the wing that has been hurting the team for years. Derozan helps this team, but he can’t fill that gap.

I don’t think there’s an elite wing out there that we could realistically acquire, but that’s the issue that really needs to be addressed.

I'll be curious to see how Doug Christie manages the locker room with all of this newfound uncertainty. Apart from a couple rough blowouts (one on the second night of a brutal back-to-back in DEN), things have been pretty positive since Mike Brown was fired and the head coaching gig was passed to Christie. But this Fox trade talk has the potential to unravel all of the recent success and detonate Christie's chances of getting that interim tag removed. I don't know that any one person is to blame here. The front office is looking out for the long-term prospects of the franchise. Fox's agent is looking out for the long-term prospects of his client. Fox is looking out for the long-term prospects of his career and family. It's business. But there's still half a season to play and the 5th/6th seeds are certainly attainable if the Kings continue to win. Can Christie keep the team together?
 
I feel bad for Coach Christie.

I feel that Fox and Klutch was hoping for the Kings to implode and trying to tank this season to give Fox a reason to ask for a trade to a "better situation". Once Christie took over and made the Kings that better situation, Klutch hit the panic button and decided to torpedo any chance the Kings had of making a run this season.

I'm pretty sure the rest of the team and Coach were blindsided by this after their stunning mid-season turn around :(

The Kings just gave up 144 points. Defense has always been the Achilles Heel of the franchise.
Christie gets defense. I have always liked the guy.

TBH, if I were the Kings, I may want to sit Fox (for team morale and fear of injury reasons) until this thing gets resolved for the betterment of the rest of the team.

I agree, have him away from the team so they can focus on actual basketball.
 
Coach Christie brought together his five starters after the game and told them their performance was unacceptable. He did not mince words.


Ironically, he echoed one of Mike Brown's most notorious post-game interviews, deliberately, when he referred to effort and performance, "Possession after possession, for forty-eight minutes."
 
This team is done imo. None of the starters are 2-way players. Every SINGLE one is great with scoring, that's it! In today's NBA, you got to have AT LEAST one or two 2-way players in the starting lineup to have a chance, otherwise, you're just going to have to hope and pray the other team keep missing open shots for you to have a chance. It isn't sustainable if you rely on that. It was always fun to see what it'll be like to sign these supposedly great scorers and see what the team turn out (especially when the team is seeking for answer)...but we'll soon realize that you can't win by trading baskets. Not only some of these players don't play D, they don't do other stuffs as well like boxing out and running back to play D...it's just not their nature. And you can't change something that they're not...Lavine and DeRozen have been in the league a LONG TIME!

Makes you wonder ( says Carmichael Dave ) who leaked the news of this meeting and why?
 
We aren’t the Nuggets but they also just got clobbered at home. No need to give up on the season because of a couple bad games

The question becomes, "now what"? Is it "run it back" or "shake it up"?

Do we see the same starting lineup, just that they have to play better? Then, what is the consequence if they do not?

Do we see quick hooks for players demonstrating "unacceptable" basketball?

Talk is cheap (especially Brown talk). Action is called for on the coaching front.

Bottom line: What exactly does "unacceptable" mean to Coach Christie and what is he willing to do to find acceptability.
 
My guess is that we will see the same lineup vs the Hornets, we will win the game because our opponent is not that strong (and there is possibility for LaMelo and Mark Williams to be absent and play at the next match at Warriors that will be back to back) so the mood will be "the meeting worked". We could win at Utah also (though it won't be so easy), but the next matches after are quite hard and the lineup issue will come back to surface especially if the Suns will have won their matches as well and are close to kick us out from the 10th place.

In social media I see people that are like "it's only one match don't act like it's the end of the world" and others that "act like it's the end of the world", some compare our situation with Knicks that got demolished by Cavs regardless of the fact that Knicks have a much better record and played against a much better team looking at the standings. Some still have the "they haven't played together long enough" excuse, which I guess isn't valid for the Warriors and Jimmy Butler situation or the Lakers and Luka, AD in his only match with Dallas etc...


We have seen the team underperforming last season in several cases, and this season as well, it's easy to blame it all on Fox but that is not the case, and sometimes we have to accept that the current roster doesn't work well together. We were quite active for a change in the trade deadline (unlike last season that did absolutely nothing) but it made things worse in the end. I wish I will be proven wrong but LaVine's presence in the starting lineup will not help the team at any point. He just cares for his stats, not willing to play defense, is bad at "circulating" the ball and ok perhaps we can win some matches if he goes "hot" but we will lose many more because of his "weaknesses". He won't be sent to the bench for obvious reasons and no team will be willing to trade for him in the offseason because of his contract.

Luckily my expectations are low, so I watch the matches prepared for the worst outcome, not getting frustrated if we lose, and surprised in a positive way when we get to win. I have no idea how things can change in a situation like this, but I hope they will at some point. I am not a supporter of "tanking" not because I consider it a "loser tactic" but I grew up watching Greek League, Euroleague and soccer competitions (there was no internet back then to watch NBA) so I am not familiar to "lose on purpose so to get better by getting draft picks", which is also a thing that shouldn't exist if you ask me even though I constantly support the underdogs and I am against "the strong to get stronger, rich get richer" etc etc.
