Chris Webber Upset About Kings' Plight...

#1
It looks like my all time favorite Kings player has something to say about this situation here in Sacramento....

"I was talking to Kevin McHale the other night," Webber said, referring to his TNT colleague and Hall of Fame forward, "and the thing about Sacramento ... it's not like Seattle, where they may get another team. I believe if we lost our team we will never see basketball in Sacramento. I know if we lose the Kings, we will never get one back. I don't want the team to go."

I actually think Sacramento would have a great shot of getting another team if a new arena was built. It's a great market with a proven fanbase. It's a moot point though because an arena will never be built. I don't buy this "we're gonna build an arena anyways" posturing for a second. We couldn't get it done when we had the Kings so there's virtually no chance of getting it done without the Kings. It won't happen. Our best hope at this point is that some Sacramento native becomes a billionaire and decides to build an arena and bring an NBA team to Sacramento with their own money.

Chris certainly made enough money in his NBA career to help pay for an arena in Sac (I'm pretty sure we as Kings fans are all aware of this;)). Someone get a hold of him.

The fact that the man who was once notorious for refusing to come to Sacramento is no one of its most ardent supporters speaks volumes about Sacramento fans though.

I think about all of the teams that he played for: Golden State Warriors, Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, and Sacramento. Yet, the place he calls "his team" is Sacramento. That truly speaks volumes to me.

EDIT: He actually says, "our team" which truly does speak volumes of his connection with the fans here in Sac.

I was just thinking that. It's kind of a cruel twist of fate actually. The fans and Maloofs beg Webber to stay, he does and ends up loving Sacramento. Then he's shipped out like yesterday's trash after he gets injured and in the end he and the fans end up begging The Maloofs to stay.

All that's left is for Webb to put up a billboard by the Maloof's house.

Weird how things can change, and it really hasn't been that long ago....

And this is something that will be lost in a move. When C-Webb, BJax, etc get announced they get standing ovations. In anaheim they will be like who is this person except for Vlade, but that's because he was a laker.

I'm sure Chris made a lot of money, but I doubt it added up to 400 million. Nice thought though..

Don't know if your aware of this or not. But when Petrie traded Webb, he first got his consent to do the trade.

He probably made at least 200 million over his career but half of that would have gone to taxes. I'd guess Webber's probably worth 50-100 million but that wouldn't be enough even if he was suddenly brainwashed by aliens into donating his entire fortune to building an arena. Maybe if we could get the aliens to brainwash Vlade, Peja, Hedo, Christy, Bobby and Bibby into donating their fortunes as well, we could get it done.

How ironic. The Maloofs begged Chris to stay in Sacramento. Now it's the Maloofs who turn their backs and yet Webber stands up for the city. If they raise his jersey in the Honda Center I think I'll puke.

If the way he's been responding is true, he'd probably puke too.

I hope one day sacramento does get another nba team..... if you thought the lakers and kings had a rivalry imagine the kings and the royals......
i dont want another team. This team is on the upswing and we know it. We had to suffer bad seasons for how many years and just as things are getting better, this happens? it only makes it worse for me.

He'll probably puke too, lol. He hated the SoCal teams after 2002 I believe.

Yeah it's really sickening. At least Seattle folks still have MLB and NFL to root for. We'll be left with The River Cats being the biggest game in town.

I don't want another team either.... I'd never get over the fact that Evans and Cousins were the future of OUR city. But if the Kings leave, another team is the best we got though....
