Chris Jent

Having Jent and Ewing for both Reke/DFC would be a dream. If this happens, the NBA is going to see a new dynamic duo. Can't wait for the season to start.

I actually remember Chris Jent as a player. I think he was drafted into the NBA and spent very little time on the roster before he got waived. I remember him from his days down under. He used to play for a team that no longer exists in North Melbourne Giants and was an absolute lights out shooter. He was dominant in a **** competition but he was the best shooter in the league by a universe.

When I watced the Cavs a few years ago there was this tallish coach in the huddles that looked very familiar until it clicked who it was. If he can teach players how to be good shooters he is an asset! As others have said, maybe this is a coach for Tyreke.

Bring in one of the all time greats in Ewing for Cousins and bring in a very good shooter that helped LeBron develop his jumpshot for Tyreke.

After years of neglect, it feels weird that we are actually investing so much in player development. It's a normal thing but feels so weird!

it would certainly be the right approach to retain demarcus cousins, re-sign tyreke evans, and bring in assistant coaches that can specifically aid these two players in their further development. the notion of honest-to-goodness player development in sacramento is exciting. but it should be noted that, while the kings have apparently reached out to patrick ewing, his interest in the job has yet to be determined, and the team's interest is based entirely on a scant rumor...

we also don't really know the reason that mike malone has decided to tap chris jent for a possible position, other than the fact that the two of them previously worked together in cleveland. i've been among the biggest supporters of building this team around cousins and evans, and though we've received extremely strong signals that vivek and malone have designs for DMC, we have yet to determine if they have similar plans for 'reke...

i was definitely encouraged to see that tyreke was made a part of the Long Live the Kings rally, and recent tweets indicate that he appears to have at least some interest in remaining in sacramento (https://twitter.com/TyrekeEvans/status/334851536142340097), but it seems a bit ahead-of-ourselves to assign ewing to demarcus and jent to tyreke before either of those individuals are hired, and before tyreke is re-signed. that said, after years of maloofian sabotage, i am glad to see that there is a plan, and that it's moving forward expediently...

This is awesome, there are finally signs of actions to develop the team. Six months ago Larry Bird and the Kings would not have been in the same sentence.

Upon returning from trip to Sacramento, Ohio State's Chris Jent has 3-year contract offer to be Mike Malone's top assistant, sources tell Y!
that's one assistant.

Seems like a decent hire, albeit a little risky pairing an under-experienced lead assistant with a first time head coach. Would've rather liked to see a long-time assistant or former head coach (ala Mo Cheeks in OKC) as the lead assistant to ease Malone's transition as a first-year head coach. But hey, not a bad hire, and I'm sure he'll round out his staff with some grizzled vets (like his pops).

Brendan Malone will almost surely be the lead assistant what with the 25 years of experience and the whole being the coach's dad thing. :p

Latest Jason Jones article saying Jent will be the lead assistant.

Also, Malone says he plans to hire four assistant coaches and two player development staff members.

Interesting...well interesting if you believe your own beat writer, which shouldn't be in question, but unfortunately is. :p

Would make daddy maybe something more like Coachie was back in the Adelman days. Could be a good thing in making for a more comfortable situation for the other assistants, but seriously not interested in another Musselman best & the brightest group of inexperienced "kid" coaches.

I'm liking this guy more and more. And, contrary to Brickie, I like the idea that Malone isn't automatically putting his father into the lead assistant slot. Thus far, I am nothing but encouraged.

Not making pop the lead is understandable. He can't be aspiring chicken and that fact does not mesh well with an 82 game schedule, especially the 41 on the road (which might explain why pop isn't there right now).

And remind me again what transgression of the past justifies the derision so frequently associated with "the beat writer".
