Celtics @ Kings Game Thread
I hope everybody had a very wonderful Christmas, and if you do not celebrate it, I hope you had a nice day.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will be at the game tomorrow. My first game of the season!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Kings choked away the game the other night. They flat out lost it. Denver didn't do anything to win it besides a scrub hitting a lucky fade-away with no time left, but even so the Kings should have never been in that position. They started off hot, their offense looking as good as it has all season, and then they just stopped. It wasn't the Nuggets switching things up defensively, although they did go zone for an extended period of time, completely ignoring the fact that the last two teams went zone for a long while and we completely torched them. However the zone worked in their favor, because the Kings have had so much confidence in their three pointers that thats basically all they took through the fourth quarter. I don't credit George Karl with this 'brilliant' coaching move because I think it was just bad luck on the Kings part.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I said in the last game thread that the Nuggets have no rhyme or reason to their offense. Not that anyone was disputing that, but I was right. All they do is try to run the ball like maniacs or just run iso's for Melo or Iverson and wait for someone to get open or they score off of putbacks. They have gotten away with it so far because Melo and Iverson are really freakin good. Reggie went zone against them for a while trying to throw them off of that stupid offensive gameplan, and it worked until the Nuggies started hitting threes. The thing was, when we adjusted and went back to man, Iverson decided he was in the building and started icing Beno like a wedding cake.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I blame the loss on 3 things. 1st being Jumpermania, because I don't think the Nuggets zone was that good and even with Camby the Kings should have attacked the basket more. Props to Salmons who did that, but was just really freakin unsuccessful. 2nd, being our defense. Artest didn't have the opportunity to shut down Melo because the Kings were in zone most of the night, but when he was matched up, it was fairly even, with Ron Ron getting a few steals, and Melo hitting some impossible fade-aways. 3rd is the most obvious one, and that is free throws. Brad's clanked in and out, and Beno bricked a couple, and if they both go one of two, this game thread would look really empty. THe team's two best free throw shooter %wise missed four in the final 36 seconds. I mean the Nuggets probably wouldn't even bet on that.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Here comes the enigma of the NBA which is/are the Celtics. They are killer, no doubt, and I would put money on them in any playoff series unless it was against the Spurs, who have their own big three in a Popovich kind of way. The deal is, the Celtics haven't beaten anyone good, and when they have, they've lost. Orlando, Detroit, and Cleveland if I am correct. Cleveland isn't even good. Lebron James is. I dunno, we will see.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Skott Skiles finally got fired. I know this is a Kings game thread, but all I gotta say is was its about freakin time. There is a difference between being a hard*** coach like Popovich and a hard-***hole coach like Skiles. For a moment earlier in this season, I thought Reggie might turn into a Skiles type coach, but now I think he is quite a bit more amiable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A lot of people are saying the Rajon Rondo isn't the man to run the point for the C's. He is averaging just over 5 assists per game though, almost 2 steals, and just under 10 points. I dunno, I think they are trying to win right now and he isn't the guy to do that, but they could do a lot worse there. For a second year guy, a contender loaded with three of the best players in the league is a heavy issue. Imagine if they got Jason Kidd. Wow. It could happen too, if he asks for a buy-out or something.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME
TDM goes to Linas F. Kleiza because... do I even need to write it?
LW-VC belongs to Chucker Atkins
I made up a new award for my game threads called the Heimlich Award.
The Heimlich Award gets split between Brad and Beno.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Celtics are up and I am really regretting picking Kevin Garnett over Lebron James in one of my fantasy leagues. Note for Artest: Paul Pierce is averaging over 3 turnovers a game. He wants to give you the ball.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Ron - dissappearing act.
Beno - next time just clear your throat
Salmons - snap back into a slim jim Johnny
Mikki - I can only hope you play well against KG.
Brad - hhhhhhyyyyucckkkk *ahem* so your buddy Glen Davis isn't starting, so you should be fine.
Hawes - I wonder if when he's driving, he tries the three point turn?
Cisco - The only consistent player against the Nuggets
Jones - meh
Douby - meh
Justin - coulda used you
rest - whatever
Coach T - coach really well man. Its Boston and you can outcoach Doc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ticket, Jesus Shuttlesworth, and Truth will all show up, Eddie House is begging for a TDM, and for some reason I see the Kings being really focused and competetive. The game will probably be decided in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter.
