Over the past few weeks, several NBA general managers have told ESPN.com that agent Dan Fegan has been searching out potential sign-and-trade deals for disgruntled restricted free agent Anderson Varejao, according to ESPN writer Chad Ford.

In recent days, there have been indications that the Cavs are open to the possibility of a sign-and-trade.

Two GMs told ESPN.com they believe Varejao would agree to a five-year, $45-million deal in a sign-and-trade, if such an offer were made.

9 million/year for a guy that averages 6 points and 6 rebounds per game and would not be able to beat an average junior high b-ball player in a free throw shooting contest?

Good luck with that.

Maybe he has those numbers, because he barely gets playing time? I'd rather have Varejao over oh say...Kenny Thomas. Pull the trigger Geoff...straight up.

Come on, I can't believe you are arguing for a guy that avg 6/6 to get 9 mil a year. Sure he has been a bench guy, but 6/6 does not merit a 9mil/yr salary.

Let the guy start for a year somewhere, and if he can put up 10 boards + 10 points in a game than we can discuss whether he is worth what he is asking for.

We have a player in JW who can put up 6/6 off the bench if given 20+ minutes a game, and miss half his FTs.

Apparently, he isn't worth that much to the Cavs or he would've been signed long ago.

The thing is, Varejao's not a real good fit for our team; he's a player who has already maximized his potential, perhaps explaining why he's not able to land the lucrative contract he's yearned for. That being said, he's a player made for an upper echelon team; that's where his charges, energy boost and offensive rebounding and defensive attributes will have the most impact. A pure glue guy, an X-factor; on a losing team, his charges will all be for naught and his rebounding completely useless--energy wasted. And besides, he's not the shotblocker/defensive intimidator we're looking for--he's a good defender with mobility, but won't strike fear in penetrator's eyes, so to speak.

Look, the truth is, he's a guy that was a second round draft pick who made himself valuable on a team that has only one star on it. He hasn't really had enough minutes to tell if he is the real deal or not. Sure, I would like to have him on my team to find out, but not at the price he's asking.
Personaly I think his agent is out of his mind, and anyone who pays what he's asking is out of their mind. I wouldn't even give him the MLE. I mean for God's sake, he would be making more money than Artest. Does anyone think he's that good. Lets get a grip here.

Cavaliers have week to match Bobcats' offer sheet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In need of a big man, the Charlotte Bobcats reached agreement Tuesday on a three-year offer sheet with Cleveland restricted free agent Anderson Varejao, giving the Cavaliers a week to match the deal or lose him.

A source close to the Cavs told ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan that Cleveland plans to match the offer sheet, meaning Varajao should be back in a Cavs uniform toward the end of this week.
ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher reported the offer sheet is worth $17.4 million, which would fit the Bobcats' mid-level salary cap exception.

According to ESPN.com's Chad Ford, the offer sheet includes an opt-out clause after year two, meaning Varejao could become a free agent again in the summer of 2009.

Kenny and Varejao had similar numbers last year. At least when Kenny got his contract he averaged a double-double, and that contract wasn't even 9mil a year.

He has the size over Kenny, but he isn't that much better. IMO the hustle rep is due to how he flops all over the place. The hair flops all over, he looks like he exerts an extra amount of energy on every play because he moves so slow and is so non-explosive.
