Given that Rahim's deal is up after this year, maybe its a salary dump to unload Vince's contract? Dangerous maneuver though if you're Toronto. Who exactly are you going to sign with that money that's going to make you a winner and put fans in the seats? If you dump Vince for nobody, you are actually threatening the franchise's existence in Canada.

I'm just assuming that they are not seriously considereing Rahim a building block to anything but perpetual lotterydom at this point.

Vince is making too much money and the Raptors have shown that they can win or lose just as well with him as without him. Clearing cap space a little early might not be a bad idea. They can still build around Bosh and get a high pick next couple years to go with some money to sign a FA, assuming of course this trade doesnt kill the sliver of popularity the NBA still has in Canada.

Canada LOVES basketball. Even when the Raptors stunk, the games were still selling out. When vince was out for the season, voshon Lenard was their best scorer, and they won like 20 games, the fans STILL loves them. The fan support here is unbelievable, maybe better than in Sacramento.

Vince has polarized the fanbase the way Francis and Webber do. The fanbase will recover.

With Rahim and Andersen, they should still make the playoffs, so lottery picks is not really an incentive. No big-time FAs will want to come here, and Rahim isn't worth a big extension.

I don't think too highly of Vince and I really like Andersen, but this is a bad trade. Jalen Rose is a key player for this squad as well, and is a better leader than Vince is. They'll miss him.

Trading Vince isn't a bad idea, but trading him for Rahim is.

Update:

The deal has been offered by Toronto, they won't accept a Vince trade without Rose going too.

TO wants SAR and Van Exel, both with expiring contracts. Portland wants to give DA instead. Portland would have to include other players under the CBA (I don't know the details).

It seems like it could happen shortly. I personally like DA over Van Exel, especially considering no superstar would want to come to TO. Who could they sign with the max? Michael Redd? please. Not a max player. The more chances you give Raptors management to screw up, the more they'll ruin the franchise. Just take DA.

Don't see the point of that. If the Raptors are going to do the big stupid and do the full rebuild, they need to do the full rebuild and clean all the cap room they can. Have a sneaking suspicion they may find out what Chicago found out a few years ago -- top free agents won't come play for a loser in the snowy north. But if you're going to do it, go for it all the way, clear everything you can, and at least theoretically make room for your free agents.
