Subject: Wow - Delfino!
Comments: Snagged this from another forum but the translation is good, I read the orignal at http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v3/pagina.jsp?pagId=962301

He was angry, very angry. Just a few minutes ago he heard the news that Larry Brown, his coach, had left him out of the playoff roster. Carlos Delfino couldn't hide his anger when he spoke to Ole. „They fu*ked with me”, was his first phrase, the same that he repeated many times in the next 20 minutes. „Officially, I don't know nothing, I heard through the media...Practise ended at three and nobody spoke with me. Not the coach, not the manager. I didn't expect it from Brown, who doesn't even salute me...But I did expect it from (Joe) Dumars, who supported me when I went to my country to have surgery for the second time (in his right knee). But that's how the game is played here, the person doesn't matter” the rookie forward started.

Q:-What explanation do you found on Brown's decision?

A:- That he wants to fool me. Now it is clear that he made the decision before. In this last two games I've played a lot and as a starter (31 minutes on Wednesday), Brown approached me, told me I did well, that I could play in three positions...And now he comes up with this. He chooses (Darvin) Ham, who wasn't playing since a long while, and has a knee problem. He wanted to return the favour.

Q:- Why?

A:- He didn't explain to me. It must be related with my insult the other day. He kept his grudge since then. He seemed to change in the last few days, but now I see it wasn't like that...

Q:-How was that of the insult? Did you apologize?

A:- The truth is...There was only one minute to go and the game was over. He ordered to Arroyo and me to get in. We step and I say to Arroyo „He remembered that we're here”. Then I get in, made a mistake (he says something like „I've **** it up” and he pulls me out angered. When I walk by him he calls me „as*hole” then I insult him in Spanish. I reacted, I'm a big mouthed ****, but I did because he insulted me first. It's the truth. That's why I didn't apologize to him, I just talked with Dumas and told him that I've made a mistake. But nothing else.

Q:-The relationship with Brown was always that bad?

A:- He never approached me, talked or was polite. I barely got a „hello”. The day I got injured for the first time, he shouted „run, run” at me, and I couldn't. The next day I had an artoscopy(I don't know how to translate that), I never knew what his mood was, I found out on the papers. Like when he said that I didn't play any defense. He didn't told me what I was doing right and what was wrong. He never said anything in my face. I haven't learned anything with him as coach. He can't deal with the psichological side of a player.

Q:-Brown had problems with other Pistons players and with Iverson in the 76ers. His rants are normal. Do you really believe that it was because of that insult?

A:- Yes, it is true, he had problems with others, but I'm not Iverson. He can't leave him (Iverson) outside the playoff rosters, but he can leave me out...I'm a rookie. But what happened is something normal in professionalism, it just happens everywhere.

Q:-Maybe the fact that you got surgery in Argentina and he didn't want you to, could have had some influence?

A:- I don't think so...(thinks)... All was authorized. Here they saw the good side, they knew I would feel better in my country...and so it was. I felt terrible since I came back (to Detroit).

Delfino had two right knee surgeries that kept him on the injured list for three months. He only played 30 games with an average of 15.3 minutes. His regular season stats are 3.9 points, 36% Field goals percentage, 58% Free Throws, 1.8 Rebound and 1.3 assist. More was expected from him.

Q:-Will you be critic of your performance?

A:- Now they will say that I'm difficult, that I always have problems with the coaches, but I didn't do anything wrong. I had the worst year of my career. But the main reason was the injury. They told me that they were going to give me minutes and they didn't...Later, when I was healthy, my game was good. But I had the injury and playing so many games isn't easy. And getting into rhythm after such a long time. But I proved to myself that I can play in the NBA. Even standing in one leg like I'm at this moment. Besides, I was professional. I didn't play but still I trained the double. I don't see my mistake.

Q:-How do you see your future?

A:- For this guy (Brown) I don't play again. And I don't want to stay here (Detroit). I felt like ****, they treated me like garbage. I expected another gesture, even from Dummars. I wish they trade or waive me. Maybe I say this because I'm really upset, but from this place I have the worst memories of my career and I want to go home.

who the hell is carlos delfino? the simple fact that this guy is a rookie means he needs to shut up and wait his turn! so what he got left off the playoff roster maybe next year he should step his game up if he doesnt want the same thing to happen again!

by the way bad mouthing coaches and teammates isnt a smart idea

Actually I have seen Delfino play and he's got pretty solid skills. He was unfortunate to be injured but there is no way in hell Ham deserves to be on the play-off roster over Delfino.

seriously though what an idiot delfino is... he is such a freakin sook.... he really needs to grow up....

Serves Delfino right. You dont disrespect the coach like that even if the coach is in the wtong. You better expect your not going to be on the roster. He deserves a serious butt kicking! What a spoiled rotten brat.

im with the delf on this one. i don't care who insults me, coach, president... i will give you the big **** you back no matter who you are.

Just makes Delfino look very very bad, and a bust so far. Doesn't change my opinion of Brown much because I've never bought into the bogus cult of Larry stuff - he's always been a whiny, backstabbing media coach who's clashed with all sorts of players who don't appreciate his conniving tactics. He can really coach, but I'd probably clock him on the jaw in the locker room after we finally won the title.

Ditto that.

I'm with Delf on this.

If he doesn't treat me with respect, then why should I treat him with it?

Wow, I never expected this from you Brick...
Perhaps I havn't been following as closely as I could have...

As far as the Dolphin stuff, I think people (as always) are blowing things way out of proportion. So he fought back! So what? I am sure he is either staying longer than Larry, or will find a job somewhere else in the NBA, someone looking for the next Manu or something.

The best Brown assesment I've see so far. Yes, he won it all and yes he is a great coach. Still, he deserves to be clocked on the mouth.

Oh, waaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Delfino just dug himself a VERY big hole. His mouth is writing checks his talents can't cash. He's not one of the most talented players around, contrary to what he would apparently like everyone to think.

He really needs to suck it up and shut up.

..........................................

Just my three cents.

Just look at the stats.Obviously he's not an offensive juggernaut. Ham plays serious D. If say Tayshaun got hurt Ham would fit in the lineup without the Defense falling off. The Pistons are a Defensive team. Delfino crossed the line then dove headfirst into quicksand. Why? Just take it like a man! Life is not fair. Deal with it. I think it was the right decision but they could have handled the situation better. Bottom Line....Delfino is WRONG!

Bah! I'm on the coach's side in this; what gives this rookie the right to run his yap? Who is Carlos F. Delfino to question Larry Brown? What gives him credibility in that regard?

As far as Larry Brown's coaching style, I have no beef. He's flawed, but so is every coach.

if he was disrespected in the manner that he "claimed" then I'm on his side.

Bull-bleep. This whole "disrespect" crap is almost invariably a smoke-screen for rude or boorish behavior. And players who use that excuse are generally pretty much full of themselves and something else I won't discuss.

Delfino is a paid employee and he's making good money, even as a rookie. AS A ROOKIE, he's the first on the list NOT TO GO to the playoffs.

Look at Kevin Martin as a comparison. He played good the last few games, but he was left off the roster. Was it because he was being disrespected? Of course not. It was because other players with more playoff experience were being taken.

Carlos Delfino needs to remember he's an employee. His bosses have the right to utilize him in whatever manner they choose. If he's that unhappy, maybe he needs to return home and grow up a bit.

Disrespect? Blech.

Yes, but you're in the military Slim. If I was in the navy there'd probably be some admiral having to dog paddle his way back to Hawaii. ;)

(Actually I have no particular use for Carlos Delfino or his bitching here, but it is a career long pattern with Brown -- he's been an *** since before Delfino was a twinkle in his daddy's eye).

When I commented on Brown, earlier, I did not mean to insinuate that I was siding with Delfino in this little beef. I was simply commenting about my disdain for Brown. There are a lot of players who've had beefs with the little Napolean.

Delfino, on the other hand, is a baby and needs to remember that he is a rookie; that rookie's often get left off of playoff rosters; and, that he is the employee, not the boss. Grow up and shut up.

^ true that
he's a bleeping rookie and im guessing he thinks he's a real good nba player right now and good enoiugh to play heavy minutes in the playoffs.... tsk tsk....

his not good at all his not terrible but he's not a good as he thinks he is, i mean he's a ROOKIE... and he's already crying about not being left off the playoffs roster... imagine if he was in kevin's shoes, he would throUgh a complete tantrum becasue of his limited playing time in the regular season... he really needs to grow up... this idiot still has alot to learn in the nba...

YOUR A ROOKIE!!! YOU'LLL GET YOUR CHANCE IN THE FUTURE!!!!

yea he is a rookie but that doesn't mean he can't vent. from his interview, it just seems like he was punked. rookie or not, ham did not deserve to be on that playoff roster over him. delfino might not be the next jordan, but there was nothing to say that he should be left and ham picked over him. i still think he should have kept his mouth shut, but i kinda see his side of the argument.

I make a point of ignoring comments in newspapers. They can be taken out of context. We don't know his tone, we don't know if he was tired and venting, or serious to the bone. I don't think it matters either way. Its not like something like this has never hapened before.

I'll presume that you mean besides the fact that Larry Brown already knows what he's going to get out of Darvin Ham in the playoffs, and that the playoffs aren't an appropriate place to "figure out" what some new guy is going to give you. Darvin Ham is a solid role player with playoff experience; he's a solid defender who plays the right way. I ask again: who the hell is Carlos F. Delfino?

Kevin handled the whole thing with class, Delfino did not. It just shows that our players know more about basketball than just playing the game. As a coach I like Brown but whether you like him or not he is the coach and demands respect. He's paid a lot of money to make those kind of decisions. That kid has a lot to learn or he's never going to be on a playoff team.

He is the guy who was on the Argentinian national team that punked the U.S. and whooped their behinds in Athens. He then won the gold medal while Brown watched him celebrate. He is also an individual that has about 100 x more basketball potential in his left nut then Darvin Ham has in his entire body.

hehehe dats funny :D

never liked larry personwise ... as a coach yah hes good ... but to call his players A**HOLES is terrible

some kind of boot camp ... whata heck ...

Maybe one day Rick will tell Peja the similar thing ... Peja will get angry and sky for those rebounds like a madman.

Larry is just not my type ...

Just my 10 bucks and 99 cents.

First things first: I couldn't care less how much basketball potential Carlos Delfino has "in his left nut." There's a reason why players like Ham, Ryan Bowen, Michael Doleac, Eduardo Najera and Jerome Williams will always have jobs in the NBA, and why championship contenders will always try to sign guys like that to put on their playoff rosters, and it's not because of their "basketball potential." It's because they're intelligent basketball players, they do all the little things that you want role players to do, don't demand minutes or touches, and, apparently unlike Carlos Delfino, they're (gasp!) coachable.

Contrary to the opinion of international basketball fans, being successful on the international level doesn't necessarily prepare you for the NBA, where the rules are different, and play is generally more physical, especially in the post-season. But, that's neither here nor there; neither is the issue of whether or not Brown should have played Delfino more during the regular season, which you may actually have a valid argument for. The point is that the Playoffs is not the time to be "finding out" what a player can do. Larry Brown knows what he's going to get out of Darvin Ham, and that's why he's on the playoff roster.

Dang, somebody better call Rick Adelman and inform him of MSC's "great playoff truths":)

J/K, I agree with you..but waddya gonna do with a nearly new roster and the post-season is looming...er...here?:D
