I'm glad to be wrong about the Landry signing. With the caveat that it's still early, he's clearly showing himself to be a dependable scorer off the bench (which this team absolutely needs) and a good veteran presence.
My objection to the signing was pretty simple and (at least in my mind) logical. The best frontcourt mate the Kings had for DMC was arguably Dalembert who let Cousins move to the four while blocking shots, rebounding and hitting 10-15 ft jumpers. Carl Landry was on that team and the results were underwhelming. He didn't fit alongside Cousins, didn't really fit much better next to Sammy and while a crafty scorer, didn't address the teams need for defense, rim protection etc.
Fast forward and Landry was older, more expensive and still not a great fit next to DMC. I thought he was a luxury signing - a bench scorer at a high price tag. And the fact that the Kings let Tyreke walk to sign him and that Carl subsequently missed virtually the whole season due to injuries made me dislike the signing more.
But Malone has established a role for Landry and he's thriving in it.
